I imagine that a master assassin endowed with otherworldly powers nonetheless showing mercy to even those who have wronged him the most would be a breath of fresh air to a bored millennia-old deity.
they shouldnt have retconed the outsider from a unknowable mysterious god thing to an annoying schoolboy with a tragic backstory. he was just so interesting in the first game!

His origin story is already present in the first game. But I agree, they humanized him too much in recent games
