right(clutch side) crank seal either kinked or put in backwards. effects are sucking gear oil into the cylinder, causing the bike to seem like its running rich. splung on the spark plug and oil leaks out the expansion pipe where its connected to the exhaust. bike will smoke really bad and will not reach the powerband. no power at all. just bogging down

You need to change the crankshaft seal collar also , the metal collar the seal rides on, i was having this same problem on my 05 cr250 and only the seal didn't fix it . So i got to tear it down twice and buy two seals and the collar :)

I've been having the same problem with my 2000 CR 250, unfortunately for me my dad was too stupid to listen to me telling him it was the right side crank seal sucking all the gear oil into the motor, so he went ahead and billed me to replace every single part in the ignition system. as well thanks to Lowell Curtis who commented on here saying that the seal collar will need replaced as well, cuz i have a seal kit, but no collar so its a good thing he said so otherwize i'd be out another 150 bucks lol

Hello i have a 2000 CR250 and it burns oil, it also leaks alot out the left side of the engine where the magneto sits, i think the crank seals are to blame, im trying to avoid having to split the cases, and if possible id like to leave the engine in the bike while doing the repair, any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

I know this comment 8 years old but You don’t have to split the case just take the clutch cover and basket off

Recently rebuilt a 99 model same bottom end with collar in seal everything new but the seal is wiseco don't know if it's this but I'm getting lots of white smoke poor starting etc. The cases closed perfectly with the tusk pullers etc. But I used the paper gasket the kit came with. Anyone else had same issue after rebuild? Is there a leak getting behind the primary gear nut washer? I'm gonna try new seal then if that don't work I'll use the old gasket maker instead of paper gasket

hey I got a 1996 cr250r that I just bought and im not shure if the crank is bad because when I took everything off the engine and only thing that was still on was the stator, the motor was turnin over finebut ounce I put everything on minus the cases it was very hard to turn with my hand and the piston rod would barely move back and forward! I bought a new crank but im not shure if I need it .... can you help me?? thanks

I have a 1996 cr 250r two stoke just spent tons of money on top end now it's leaking oil and smoking like crazy was told it was the right side crank seal. Does anyone know if I have to pull the motor and split the case or can I just pull off the clutch side covers. Also has anyone ever tried stop leak or trans fix for these types of problems

Great video! Think this is my problem too

My bike will start first kick and idle no problem and when it warms up it seems to run better, but there is a definite lack of power. I have checked my power valve and it operates as it should when I take the left side bolt off and rev it I can watch the power valve move in accordance with the engine speed. In the first couple gears it will bog down and smoke a ton even though I am running 40:1 and have it jetted leaner than FMF calls for with the pipe that I have. Your video leads me to believe that the crank seal is the culprit to my issues. Do you think so too or is there anything else I could check first.

Your piston ring might be getting worn out. Loss of compression from the ring=loss of power.

Could be getting blowby pass the ring, would explain the excessive smoke too

Good things to consider! I replaced the clutch side crank seal and that turned out to be the issue. After replacing that it isn't as smoky, has more power, and doesn't foul out plugs like it was.
