Chris, thanks for the techniques. I have been trying to create the swoosh by trying to swing the club head faster. After watching your video I tried focusing on accelerating my ARMS thru the ball and let the club head react to that motion. I found focusing on accelerating my arms was easier than focusing on the club head. My task now is syncing the body rotation and the accelerating arms to maximize the efficiency of motion and the quality of the ball strike. What I would add to your presentation is to relax your body, especially the wrists, arms and shoulders. Relaxed muscles move faster than tense muscles. When standing over a golf ball, the mind tends to think otherwise.

something that always stuck with me was advice to change my mentality. "Think about swinging FASTER, not HARDER" made for much faster swing speed and accuracy. led to me rotating faster to increasing torque. I was always trying to muscle through and that changed me.

That makes sense I just started playing golf last year and I've been trying to hit harder which has killed my distance but I tried swinging faster and I've gained some distance without really changing much

Great demonstration with two very good drills. Driver speed is between 80 and 85 7 iron approximately 65. I would recommend for anybody trying to pick up more speed make sure you have the Golf Club shafts that are suited for that speed. More distance is great as long as you are not giving up Direction

That is absolutely, far and away, the best teaching video I have ever seen. And probably the only drill you will ever need. Can only improve every single golfer out there. If it does, then you should all send this man a thank you, because he is worth it. What a marvellous way to simplify golf into one single combination swing thought. I worship you from afar, Chris! The hands-only drill has really helped me. I somehow got into a "control the downswing mode". I lost a full club of distance but was still striking the ball sold. The swing analyzer was showing a loss of about 5 mph. Video cleared showed I wasn't turning the firing the shoulders enough through impact. The quick turning through impact with the hands only got me back to normal. Thank you!

7i 84mph and driver 98mph on Trackman. Looking to push both up a few mph to 87 and 101 by my 61st later this year :-)
I start my acceleration and release too early and lose speed by impact so I think these exercises could help shift the timing a little later and retain speed through impact. Thanks Chris.

Chris, I made a comment like this in a previous video of yours in which you discussed the swoosh drill. there are a few different ways folks learn: audio (swoosh drill, e.g.), visual (watching videos of proper technique), or tactile (like the drill where you side-step into the swing). I've found that different learning modes work better for me for some objectives than others. The swoosh technique has been the most effective method for me to get more speed, and get it in the right part of the swing. Why this, over other methods? I don't know. I do know that as you offer more varied drills, I have a larger tool box to find the tool that works for me. Thanks; keep 'em coming.

Chris, nice video, I'll try this. The studies I've seen suggest that your average mid handicapper swings the driver at about 95 mph and a seven iron at about 75 mph. The average speeds don't increase that much when you get to low handicaps. This suggests that either the studies are wrong or you have a lot of above-average golfers watching your channel🤔. According to my Swing caddie my average 7i speed is about 75 mph, up to about 80 on the odd occasion my timing is spot on. Haven't measured the driver speed. I'm 21 hcp

I have a 95-98 with the driver. Don’t get it much over 230m (as long as I keep it out of the tres). Excellent and useful video. What I have found is my poor shot making will nearly always come down to gripping too tight. The swing thought (this week, at least) is ‘light, soft grip”. Getting a nice coordinated swing and I can feel the release through the hitting zone. Looking forward to your next video!

Chris, suggestion for a course management video (best for you to make when the weather is warmer); how about a course vlog in which you play, say, 9 holes. But for every shot, provide commentary on why you're choosing that shot for the situation you are in, and how you prepare to execute it. Part 2: okay, so after posting this comment I found a couple of course vlogs you've done. Good job; how about a few more? :)

Ya know, there is a distinct sound that you hear from professional golfers while watching them play as they hit a ball. I've been looking for how to recreate that sound because it's just so satisfying and obviously whatever makes that sound while professionals swing is working well for them. I realize now what I'm hearing is The impact of the ball followed quickly by the swishing noise of the club
Aside from that, great advice and examples for practicing on " hitting through " the ball. I feel like so many instructors say that player should hit through the ball but don't ever actually break it down like this.

Great video, one of your best IMO.
My driver is between 107 - 111 depending on the day. I've never tested the #7 but assume it's around 80 ish? I've seen Stenson (one of my favourites) do the palms down technique as well, I forget the name of his coach. Interestingly, that exact drill helped me to activate my core which was a little passive at the time. It took a few rounds to groove it in (I hit a lot of shots right to start with as my timing was thrown out) but it's helped me get the handicap into single figures. What I find the best about it is that I now don't feel like I have to work so hard on 150 - 160 yard approaches, therefore, giving me time to get the ideal impact position set much earlier.

Hi Chris, very interesting vid (as usually)
It’s not too difficult to find drills on how to work on speed, but I have not found any to work on « smash factor » (that is efficient contact to transfer all energy to the ball at impact) ! And the point is that speed is relevant, but unusefull if you miss the ball 😂
Have you some good advice to improve smash factor ?
    Thanks in advance

love the part about the timing since I always used to use my arms from the top. I do have quite good clubhead speed carrying my 7 iron about 180 yards but my driver tends to fly not as far as it should with that kind of speed. Even when I hit it centered and have a good attack angle it only goes about 230 yards and I feel like with a 180 yard 7 Iron that should be further :/ Any tips?

After breaking my neck, in a fall off a cliff, and sustaining serious nerve damage, I'm essentially a one-armed golfer now (right hand goes along for the ride). My driver distance has decreased to only about 150 yards, seven iron about 120 yards. My 7 iron swing speed is 61 MPH & my driver is 74 MPH (on a good day! ) I have been on a 4 year quest to get 175 yards out of my driver. I started out at about 125 YDs when my friends convinced me to give golf a try again after a two year lay-off. I went from a 10 HCP to a 27 after the accident. I love the game and I still have fun.....but it would be great if this video/exercise helps! Thanks!

Great swing Chris but I tried this rotary swinging left type swing and being 69 and in pretty good knick, I have put out lower right side of my back which is in spasm. My doctor told me that the back is not designed to be compressed on either the right (or left if you are a leftie) side of the lower back and I should not try and replicate the swing you show. Even too tour players such as Tiger, Rory, Rose and Day have all had lower back problems and they are young guns. Your thoughts........?

Hi Glenn, my honest answer is that I don’t know, I’ve never really tested them to have a strong opinion. I’ve seen good info on them but don’t have any first hand experience 👍

Only know ball speeds as per top tracer. So ball speed driver about 128mph, 7i about 100mph, is there a ratio figure to work out club speed from ball speed?

No idea what my club head speeds are but I only hit the ball about 250 on average with my driver so somewhere under 90. Im going to have to try this to maybe add about 25 yards to my driver! Thanks Chris!

I can swing my driver 110 but I’ve only hit the center of the face once and I usually hit down on it and cut across the ball for my slice action

Without the topic of releasing the golf club and eliminating early extension, you just demonstrated them in the drills. Otherwise the whoosh would not be created on the left side of impact. Just getting the most of your videos. Thank you!

7 iron - 94 mph / Driver 107 mph. Happy with the 7 iron, would like to see 112-115 with my driver...which I had 10 years ago 😄 Will give your drill a go...

7-iron is around 88 MPH and Driver around 95 MPH. Going for a driver fitting next week because I think that has something to do with it.

Recovering from injured driver is 94.1 and 7i is 78.6 mph. More work to do to get back to where I was 6 months ago.
