  • Swinging the one-piece Louisville Slugger Genesis (220) and the Two-Piece Genesis (240), Cam and Jason look to find out how much difference there really is between 220 and 240 compression. Will the 220 ban seriously effect the USSSA quality of play? Watch and find out!

    Great video! Just some input…..it’s hard to compare a Genesis 240 with the Genesis 220. One because the genesis wasn’t the number one 220 bat, and the genesis is in a league of its on as far as 240 goes. Also, it’s hard to get a 240 Genesis so average players can’t really relate. I would like to see another video of like an older Easton like a 2020, or 2021 Fireflex OG tech or a 220 Worth/Miken like the 19-21 KP23 vs a new 240 Miken/Worth, Easton or Demarini! Thanks fellas!

      We are always open for experiments! If you had to pick 2 or 3 top 220 bats, what would they be? We'll see if we can get a hold of something.

      @@LeagueNightSoftball I would say definitely any Easton with the “Original Fire Flex” technology like any of the Older Fab 4 eastons/ anything that says fire flex OG, 2 or 3 vs any new Eatons (fire flex 240 tech). And other good one is the older KP23. The ones with the 220 stamp. Also the worth legits are gas too. (Branch legit, any of the watermelons) vs maybe a newer 240 KP or any 240 new worth. Hope this helps!
      Top 220:
      1. 220 Easton: Fireflex Original, 2 or 3 Technology vs new Fireflex 240 tech
      2. 220 Miken KP23 12 inch 2018-2020 vs 240 KP23
      3. Worth Legit 220: Watermelon, Branch, Harvey vs Any new 240 Worth
      4.Demarini Nautali 220: Red Bat, 220 Vanilla Gorilla, Lady Cartel vs any 240 Nautalai

    I personally love the 1pc Genesis that you guys swung. Lots of guys don’t like the feel and like 2pc better. Both bats are ⛽️. If I could choose 1 of the 2 and didn’t have to worry about which stamp to use I would be swinging the 220 OG Blue Genesis because I like the feel. Thanks for the videos

      To be fair, we both liked the 220 Genesis. However, I think we both agree that we just preferred the 240 for feel and power. No knock on the 220 Geny. Great bat!

    I get the idea behind this test, but you've got it wrong. USSSA has changed both the ball and bat standard. 240’s are made to hit the pro m ball, and the 220’s were made to the a classic m along with a lower pass-fail standard.
    USSSA has collected a ton of data on the new 240 and the numbers show slower exit velos and shorter distances.
    IMO this would be a more accurate comparison.
    240 Louisville or Suncoast @ 240 psi with Pro M’s vs Miken or Easton 220 at 220 with Classic M’s.
    Not saying this change isn't good for the game, but there is a big difference in the two standards.

    I think a lot of the people upset are the ones that stockpiled the bats they like in the 220 because they were "grandfathered". Performance wise they are pretty close even if they are nearing that failing mark....JMO

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are probably right. Either way, we wanted to make sure that the performance was at least close to the same. From what we see, most would want to abandon the 220s for 240s anyway. To each, their own.

    i have a couple of the Adidas Ruckus that are probably about 190-210 compression.....I have seen a bunch of guys swinging some Eastons that I know for sure are 190s by the way they take off.....after awhile, all these older bats will fade away and you won't even notice the difference

    Out of my gamers, I haven't noticed much of a difference between an og 220 Easton Fireflex and the new 240 Louisvilles. I did notice the 240 take more time to break in but not sure if that's a Easton vs Louisville difference.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have been pretty impressed with how the new 240 bats have been able to hang performance-wise w/ the 220s. I know Lou's had some durability issues initially, but the more recent batches they have put out seem to be holding up a lot better. With Pure and Proton really pushing the bigger companies, it's all good for us consumers in the end. All of the USSSA bats seem to be gas nowadays!

  • @Ahightower25
    @Ahightower25 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Most people are complaining because local tournaments don't test and they have a 220 bat that is testing well below 190 and some are even shaved for that matter. If local tournaments tested over 70% of bats would not be legal to swing anyway. There are plenty of 240 bats that are just as good as 220 if not better. 240 genesis, suncoast, demarini, easton, and miken still make bats that still bang for sure.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      I get that sense as well. That being said, give it a year or two and there will be tons of 240 bats out there that are testing below 200 as well. Just a matter of time.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are using the Pocket Rader Smart Coach (amzn.to/3FwOrvk). This is compatible with an app that can record your swings, announce speed, and track all readings during a session. It is much more feature-rich than the base version, Ball Coach (amzn.to/3PaapHE), which can only read speeds (won't announce, track, etc.). It was a bit of an investment, but it has been a great tool to judge bat performance. We highly recommend the Smart Coach if you are in the market for a speed reader.

      I've swung a few broken in Eastons and they didnt seems worlds different to most of the 240s I've swung. However, I've noticed that I just don't love the feel of Eastons so that might be a bit of bias on my part.

  • @MeltdownMatt24
    @MeltdownMatt24 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The biggest difference I noticed between a 220 and 240 (depending on manufacturer) was the 220s were much more forgiving throughout the whole barrel. 240s perform but you aren’t going to get many accidental HRs like you do with the 220s.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I actually felt like the 240 was a bit more forgiving. However, that may have been more about 1-piece vs. 2-piece. Which 220 and 240 bats are you specifically referencing?

    • @MeltdownMatt24
      @MeltdownMatt24 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeagueNightSoftball the Miken and Easton bats. The 220s are much more forgiving than the 240s and performed better. The Anarchy and Slugger 240s were better than their 220 bats in terms of performance. Just from my experience.

    Tbh I don't think the LS 240 bats are that different from the LS two-piece 220 bats from 2018-2020. One piece Genesis probably had a smaller sweet spot compared to the two piece 240 Genesis and that's the difference in the consistency.

  • @christianrobbins4590
    @christianrobbins4590 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not really the proper test for this question. You need to swing a 220 bat that tests at 220, and a 240 bat that tests at 240. Swinging 2 bats with identical compression should yield similar results all other factors being equal. The performance difference is in the compression difference, in theory. Circle back with that video and repost it.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fair. We'll try and make another one of these in the future. However, this video was more to demonstrate that there wasn't going to be a massive change in level of play now that it is 240 only. Do you agree or disagree? Thanks for watching!

    • @christianrobbins4590
      @christianrobbins4590 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LeagueNightSoftball "massive change" - no... But there is certainly a performance difference upwards of 10%, again, all other factors being equal, from 240 to 220. That said, the 240 move was likely to appease the bat manufacturers who aren't selling as much product as they are accustomed to because of the 220 demand still being present in C ball and below. If it were a safety concern, it's much easier to change the ball, an item that is relatively "disposable".

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with both points. This move was obviously aimed at increasing bat sales and changing the ball would have been a much easier solution.
