    Breitling is one of those brands that's really grown on me. I love their new in-house line up: it feels like they've stepped up into a new league over the last few years. I actually nearly bought a two-tone Chronomat 41 a few months back, but ended up going down a different route because it felt a bit too blingy. I still have nagging regrets about it though, so reckon I'll turn round a buy one at some point.

      Yes, I've wanted a Brietling for years and settled on a Super Ocean because much of the rest of the line up are blingy and too "busy" on the faces and case..

    Great video Frederico. I'm big fan of the B01 movement. Another thing to highlight about Breitling is their independence from large groups. Something rare these days

    Proud owner of two Breitlings. One of them with that movement. Chronomat B01 42, Bentley. Amazing watch and super happy to have it! The other one is an Avenger Blackbird 48. Love Breitling! Rolex can keep their over priced and over hyped stuff. Breitling and Omega all day baby!

    Great video! I own a Navitimer with the B01 movement, so it was great to have such an informative video about it. The Transocean Chronograph 1915 also has an in house movement, the B14. What's interesting about it is that it's a manual wind movement, kind of an homage to the older models, hence the name 1915.

    The watch at the absolute top of my list is the Breitling Chronomat 44 GMT. It's absolutely gorgeous, it fits me perfectly, and does everything I need a mechanical pilot's watch to do. And of course, it features the B04 movement. I don't know much about movements, but I definitely am all about the GMT function, and the way you can move just the hour hand (and thus also the date) forward and back is spectacular. It's perfect for time zone hoppers like me.
    I've been lusting over this watch for about 6 months now. With this video, I suddenly feel vindicated and like I'm ahead of the curve. Thanks, Federico!

    You're a very knowledgeable guy Federicio and I'd love to hear you, verbally at least, take other popular movements apart. We spend more and more time talking about the movements inside a watch but do we all fully understand the difference between them all?

    • @Andrewolf79
      @Andrewolf79 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arthur Scargill there r 3 if not 4 types of watch enthusiasts in my opinion... Snobs (all about the name/brand) bling (all about name/brand/price) ignorant (what goes this year or with the better advertising I'll buy) and watchmakers (they pay for a balance between what's inside and a wrapping on the outside).. Having Sad this, you define which one u want to be cos is not rocket science.

    I agree with Arthur Scargill, you know a lot and think that Breitling is going to appreciate in value as people start to recognize that the other chronograph movements have more marketing behind them.
    Yes, Omega has the silicon escapement and soon all the 9XXX chronograph movements will be antimagnetic, but you Federico point out that Breitling has created a very sturdy movement which is the most important feature after all and so much more in a sports watch.
    Thanks for the review.

    Was at Woodbury Common and stopped at the Breitling Outlet store. Prices still beyond my reach, but up to half off on some models they were looking to move. Cool thing was that no one else was in the shop, so I got all the time I wanted to speak to the store manager Alfons, who was there on rotation from Breitling HQ and knew everything about the watches. Check it out if you're in the Hudson Valley.

    It was between the chronomat 44 with the B01 or the speedmaster with the 9300 for me. I went with the omega just because I didn't like how busy the Breitling was. However in terms of the movement I think it's a fantastic movement and its just as good if not better than the 9300 movement.

    I have been looking at the Breitling Transocean, but instead I keep buying cheap Seiko/Orient watches because it does not hurt to pull the trigger.
    Federico, would you consider doing a video on the process of moving up to a luxury watch for those of us who are perhaps a bit less experienced or even aware of the concept of paying that kind of money for a watch? I meet guys who tell me that they sell their Rolexes for more than they bought them for (even Authorized Dealer purchases), but it still kind of hits me to spend so much on an item that could so easily be stolen.
    Perhaps you already have such a video ("Stepping up to Luxury" or similar)? If not, would you consider making one? I know this would be considerably more work than a typical video, but you might also make a transformational video that defines the process. Why not try?

    I haven’t owned any breitling watch but Navitimer has been in my eyes very beautiful from childhood on the wrist of classy pilots it’s pure class it’s not all about the movement or those technical things. The watch in my and many people’s opinion is men’s jewels so it should be aesthetically beautiful while it’s technically attractive. I love breitling 😍😍

    One small nitpick. The Breitling you have pictured at 3:39 is the Breitling Transocean Chronograph 38 which does not use the in-house movement, but uses the ETA 2892/A2. Only the larger 43mm Transocean chronographs use the B01 in-house movement.

    Got my hands on a Breitling B01 AB0114 Chronomat 30th anniversary addition. Breitling is not usually my cup of tea either, usually very flashy, all polished watches, but this 41mm airborne with the black canvas strap is pretty spectacular, even almost 5 years after this video came out. Also, a cool feature you didn't mention, the movement features a date set protection feature, so you can set the date at any time of day without any hazard to the movement. As far as I know, that is a feature exclusive the B01...

    Thanks for this review! I just got my Breitling Transocean Chronograph limited edition and I absolutely love it. Aside from the watch itself being absolutely beautiful, the movement is very good and nice to look at through the transparent caseback. I checked it for accuracy and it seems to be running about +2 seconds per day which is very decent. Just one movement is even more impressive: the B01 Chronoworks. From what I read it is the same layout but it is lubricant free, anti magnetic, thermo compensated, and made of very hard, wear-free materials. It has a 100 hour power reserve from a single barrel, and given the build materials, it might even go without servicing for decades. I would love to own a watch with that movement, but unfortunately they will only produce a small amount for 30k dollars a piece. So that is definitely out of my league for a while.

    Hi Federico,
    I'm not a big Breitling fan and don't like chronographs (because the chrono second hand blocks the twelve 99,5% of the time). But competition is good. Five years of guarantee is a huge improvement for the customers.

    I think the B01 is cool as hell. I looked at getting a two tone Chronomat for a while - came so close to pulling the trigger - but got put off by depreciation, plus I think the links on the bracelet are just gold-plated, which is a big turn off for me.

    Have to say I was quite ignorant about this, so thanks Federico. Breitling are underrated as a manufacture. Probably drowned out by the marketing of other brands. I do think that the (latest) 4130 movement is its equal. Comparable power reserve, new superlative chronometer cert, 5 year warranty and 10 year service interval as of last summer. I am not a Rolex fanboy I hasten to add. I came across a navitimer 1884 in a store recently. Black IP case, red accents on the dial, twin register with date at 6 o clock, but cannot find it on the breitling site. You know anything about it old chap?

    What Federico you missed is Breitling's 5 year warranty is only 2 years THEN and ONLY THEN do you get a 3 year extension is if you send it in to be inspected by Breitling for them to "check it over." You think they add this extra step to be nice and warm and fuzzy?

    • @FedericoTalksWatches
      @FedericoTalksWatches  8 ปีที่แล้ว

So breitling has the super avenger which is closest to size I'm used to wearing. But I am eyeballing a super avenger 2. Or a navitimer 46mm. But what is the difference in b01 or b03 movement???

    B01 has undergone many upgrades due to problems and failures,they have used their buyers as testers.There is a worthwhile adage proven in this case; don't buy the first new model,wait till they iron out all the bugs.

    The Daytona has a column wheel and a vertical clutch and is regulated to -2 + 2 accuracy. It's pretty darn nice...I personally think the pushers on the Breitling Chronomat and Navitimer require WAY to much effort to push them in and it is gritty feeling. The Transocean is a step up but the pushers still need a bit of a hefty push similar to a speedmaster that does not have a column wheel even though the transocean uses the B01. I am also not a big fan of Breitling service reputation.

    • @FedericoTalksWatches
      @FedericoTalksWatches  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daytona movement is FANTASTIC, but the fact that the breitling has a longer power reserve, longer service intervals and cost SIGNIFICANTLY less than the daytona, makes it a pretty appealing proposition...

    • @FedericoTalksWatches

      hmmm... mechanical chronos are significantly more expensive... There isn't really an SKX of chronographs... The speedmaster reduced is a pretty decent value...

      Not to take anything away from any future videos Federico might make, but Breitling has some killer videos on their TH-cam channel. I don't believe they go super in-depth about the movement itself, but they do discuss at length the laborious manufacturing process of the Chronomat, which features their in-house movement Federico was just talking about.

    Federico, can you do a review on the Tudor BB Chrono? I personally own the watch and i'm super confused why people hate on it so much. They say the "snowflake" hand is too big to read the sub-dials, but if you actually own the watch and use it... it's perfectly fine.

  • @SolomonLi
    @SolomonLi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    My brother graciously gifted me a 1st run B04 with the black steel. At first, I thought it was a really busy dial too... but after some time with it I have really taken to it on that rubber strap.
    I do kind of like the classy looking Transocean, but the Navitimer is classic I don't know if I can get into... I guess maybe it's a devilish weekend delight kind of watch.
    +Federico I, do you think the first series of black steel have a potential to be collectibles down the road? I know lots of Breitlings drop quite a bit. Interested to hear if you think the movement would be enough to make it collectible for those first 4000 watches they made with the movement...

    • @FedericoTalksWatches
      @FedericoTalksWatches  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, your brother is awesome!
      As far as collectability, its a tough call. The movement certainly does make it more desirable, but breitling isn't exactly hot right now and limited to 4000 isn't SUPER exclusive... I think it does have the potential, but further down the line in a few years time...

    • @maxflitime3433
      @maxflitime3433 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right about the B04 dial... too busy. It's good you have it on rubber strap since the steel bracelet is heavy and super polished. Like a bling watch!

      Won't hold its value as well as say a Lange or Patek, but for the price... probably the best dive chronograph in its category. B01 is a truly amazing movement and proved to be more accurate and etc compared to the Rolex Daytona (my fathers).
      Should be a keeper :)

    Great review Federico. You're the man! Does Breitling have an in-house 3 hand movement yet? Everything you say is correct except that saying the B01 is a more durable and best chronograph movement is a big call. It needs to be around for a while before it can be crowned as chronograph king. I also like yourself think most Breitling's are a little on the busy side. Keep up your great vids. Cheers :-)

    I never understand how these watches come with such little warranty, I mean really sub 5 years as the norm for watches that cost several thousand dollars? If its such good quality it should be at least 10.
