Bryan please consider focusing on lead-free hunting bullets for your next book: GMX, TSX, TTSX, LRX, MTH. These bullets tend to have high minimum impact velocities for good expansion characteristics, so the concept you describe here is especially important to them. Hunters who are legally required to use these, or just prefer them, would sure appreciate it.

@Joe Costner past a certain velocity, lead bullets will shred themselves apart.

In hunting... I feel that today's emphasis on high BC bullets and long range shooting has had an unintended consequence of shifting focus away from the importance of minimizing the probability of woundings and maximizing the probability of recovery. Terminal performance goes beyond what just the bullet does and ought to significantly include understanding of what the hunter does both before and after sending it. Bryan Litz places emphasis on marksmanship and the human role in accuracy. Similarly the human role in terminal ballistics is a dominant variable that goes well beyond just shot placement. Most people think of shot placement in two dimensions... position of damage relative to vitals... But the third dimension is position of animal relative to any variable or condition that may prevent you from recovering that animal after your bullet contacts it. The probability of recovery is inversely proportional to the distance to the target and it is definitely non-linear and it depends on everything. If you shoot at animals that are waay out there especially with bullets that do not produce consistent exit wounds and strong blood trails at the lower down range velocity after striking the largest bones that are close to the vital organs you are aiming for, you are going to experience a higher rate of failure of the bullet/hunter system. Placing emphasis on this side of the equation naturally and logically leads to the preference for the bullets that are designed to retain the most mass and penetrate the deepest, and limit maximum range to ensure the bullet expands consistently and limit the range to ensure you can track the wounded animal. In my opinion, for most hunting scenarios this means that anything beyond 500yds should be treated with extreme caution, even for talented marksmen. That being said... a bullets ability to retain mass and expand reliably and penetrate deeply is more important than its BC. IMHO.

I was looking for a good sniper rifle to get into competition and would like to know what would be the best round to go with for range accuracy

I know at my age im a bit old to be getting into long range shooting and i have not even started yet but its going to happen.I have already purchased two rifles i may be using when i do start and one is a .224Valkrie and the other a 6.5Creedmoor.The ladder is a bolt gun.To be honest im not sure exactly how to go about getting involved in a league or much at all about a truly organized gun shoot and have only heard about it thru people at our local gun club in the stix of extreme southern N.J. lol which isnt very 2A friendly so thats already a strike against me when looking into long range comps locally.Anyway i have swore I would be getting into it befor i get too old at 55yrs old now im finally getting the time and have a bit of extra cash with my last child graduating College. So as im just getting into long range and have never even fired a rifle with a scope on it even while in the military..... i will get into long range comps and win one befor i retire from an active life or my name aint.....rofl seriously though what do you guys think the best long range, accurate and still terminally placed high at the end of the shot, cartridge is best?

Michael W. Urban Sr. 6.5 creedmor, isn’t the flattest round out there but wind doesn’t affect it as much because of the length of the bullet itself
