      Yep, Dan 'gets it'. Design that's not a 1:1 homage of an existing design but a distillation of a period of watches, no predatory marketing, limited release but plenty for people to buy at retail. I've heard mixed things about their QC but I am fighting off the urge for a Maverick.

      Most of watch reviews nowadays are paid, it's very hard to find honest unpaid and unscripted reviews especially for micros. Most YT watch reviews are $$ by mainstream brands and this channel is no different.

    Not a fan of the design or the marketing strategy. This idea of deliberately making limited amounts and discontinuing them in order to increase scarcity and price is erroneous in my opinion. I can understand it more with marquee brands but now its filtered through to kick starter brands that make homages!? What happened to companies just making good watches at affordable prices for everyone.

    Doood - interesting case for business students at Macalister College 😊! Lots of (presumably paid) brand attention, a suit from the middle-east, a watchmaker with internship experience (reard the same story on other micro-brand sites btw😏), a "borrowed" design, production in China, hyped and shortened simultaneously. Thanks for the video. I had looked at their kickstarter, but it seemed to be mostly marketing, including the "back story (BS)" . The Moonswatch strategy of creating a buzz around limited edition homage pieces seems to be their main source of inspiration and will likely cause more microbrands to follow this strategy. Thanks for reviewing them - it is good to know that they are well built pieces.

    I had a Boldr model with this mechaquartz movement for a few months last year. I agree that it's terrific for value and specs, and while I certainly would never "sneer" at it, I did end up selling the watch less than six months after buying it due to the limitations of this particular movement's functions: lack of running seconds, and a useless (to me) 24-hour dial. I don't know if non-American watch enthusiasts get more use out of a 24-hour dial that's anchored to a central 12-hour readout, but it just felt pointless in my day-to-day wear. Now, replace that with a running seconds hand, or unbind the 24-hour hand so it could be used to track a second time zone, and I'd be all about it.

    • @hackmechanic
      @hackmechanic ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed. I briefly had a Mercer with the VK63. Without the running seconds hand the dial looked "dead." 24 hour dials are only useful on the moon or at the poles of the planet or if you work on a submarine. And I'll add that the VK63 chronograph only times for 1 hour before stopping. Cooking a turkey? Money in your parking meter for more than an hour? Timing your bike ride or hike? Can't do it with this movement.

I also think it’s quite expensive even at retail. I picked up an Invicta, Ref 35113, which is a VK64 homage to a 1960’s Invicta bicompax chronograph. I've heard under extreme macro they are very clean. Luxury watch level.

    Having read and seen a lot of the thinly veiled effusive marketing fluff that comes from so called watch journalists who are completely out of touch with what normal people can and will buy, I am happy to take my watch buying advice from dudes in star wars tee-shirts making videos in their spare bedrooms, thank you very much 😃😁

    I have Furlan Marri HERTZ Beat with seconde/second collab. It's on the same.quality level as my Longines or Tag Heuer. Love it a lot.

    Can you do a megaquartz special? I like the fact that they are always ready to strap on but still look like an automatic.

    Yeah, if you're about the money and like this model/style, I feel you should try and get a Dan Henry 1937. Basically the same watch...

    I havent seen anyone else mention this but this is also very similar to the Vacheron Constantin 1955 (minus the fancy lugs). Which came first, the VC or the PP?

    Website says "Based in Geneva" not made there of course. Standard deceptive marketing fluff..😕
    They smell & look like a combination of Dan Henry & Vincenzo.

    Morning jody, I'm surprised this one passed you by, I'm not an homage mad any more as you know, but yeah I like it a lot. Not enough to pay over the top and not as much as studio underdog!

    Furlan Marri = total hype. Aliexpress already has the Mysterious Code chronograph for under $100 running VK64. That would be a good one to review Jody to compare to the FM.

      I got a mysterious code version and the quality is fine. Probably not much better than the Marri (Visually from a distance) but the finishing is a but rougher on the edges up very close.

    Nice watch, looks a bit like Dan Henry’s watches

  • @nukadog1969

    I guess I simply don't understand either the love or the hate. It's a nice, vintage chrono, even if you don't know it's a nearly perfect homage. If that's your thing...cool; if it's not...cool. I guess that makes me completely ambivalent to the watch, and amazed at the secondary market pricing...

  • @Watch-Crazy
    @Watch-Crazy ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool looking piece but grey market prices are crazy! For $270 you can buy an almost identical Dan Henry 1937 or 1939!

    I’ll stick to my Pagani Design & Escapement Time mecaquartz thanks for a much more reasonable price.
