- Beyond stoked to have finally gotten on the water for the first time this year, Awesome day of yellowtail fishing aboard the Mission Belle! Could not had asked for a better day of fishing for my first trip of 2020!
Can't wait to see what this year finally has in store, got a lot of catching up to do as far as trips go, so hopefully I can make the best of it.

Love it when you put a nice fresh bait on and cast between a bunch of guys not hooking up and then you hook up right in front of them. Th importance of a good bait is key

What charter where you using ?
Been trying forever to find a good one with good captain and deck crew.
Started salt water fishing last year still have a lot of leaning lol
All the landings here in Southern California are great. Knowledgeable crew and they put you on fish. Fisherman’s and H&M Landing are great. Daveys locker is also pretty good

marcus olah I was aboard the Mission Belle this day out of Point Loma, SD. Great captain, great crew.
Most of the San Diego boats are really good with a great crew.
I don’t have personal experience with the boats out of Long Beach or Newport, but I’ve heard the fury, the native sun, and the thunderbird are the boats to get on for that area.
Local for me, Channel Islands sportfishing, I recommend the aloha spirit, seabiscut, or the Erna B.
What knots do you use for irons and fly lining?
Fly line, I like the palomar the most. Surface irons, yoyos, and flatfalls I like the double San Diego Jam knot
It’s awesome to be able to catch big bluefin in sd, l but id take a day of wide open yellowtail at the coronados any day.

JOEY L finding the right bait is what triggers the bite. I’ll cast out 10 baits in 1 minuet if I have to just to find the right one.
The limited loads are nice! I’ve only been fishing limited load chartered trips for the last 2 seasons. Hate getting tangled with the crowd
I hate the bottom square shape of the Lexa 400 tiburon clamp. Had to file mine round. Also not sure why they say it doesn't work for left handed Lexa 400. Worked on my HD 400 lefty.

Nice job! I was on the Liberty yesterday. My buddy and I must have landed over 60-70 fish total. We went 1 for 4 on the yellows. I lost two to seals and the other pulled the hook. It was a great day with a wide variety of species.
M C that’s so awesome! And yeah the sea lions are really ruthless right now because they haven’t been stealing fish for the last couple months. All good though, pay our dues early and have a good rest of the season!
Sweeeet, went on the Belle for the first time last Thursday! Kinda slow, but my dad managed to land one, I guess that's why it's called fishing 😂 Definitely want to go again, the captain and crew were great!

How many yards of mono are you running on top of your braid on that Lexa?
I’d say at least 50-60 yards. Mono comes off the spool better and makes it easier for the bait to swim off with ease, so I like to have a good amount of mono on

Yellowtail fishing, fly line usually gets bit best.
25lb flouro carbon leader and a 1/0 or 2/0 live bait hook.
If you have multiple set ups you’re able to take,
if I were to bring 3 set ups it would be fly line, yoyo, and surface iron/surface lure like a colt sniper jerk bait.

How many pounds your line? And gear?
For fly line fishing, I do about 50+ yard top shot of 30lb mono with 25-30lb Fluoro leader
And surface irons, 100 yard top shot of 40 lb mono

Was on that trip. Was a mix of both. Early in the day bait was getting bit left and right.
Late afternoon everything was getting bit. Colt Sniper, Surface Irons, bait...etc

Was only giving you some friendly advice. Don't get me wrong Triton is cool. But captain Bruce on the sportking is a monster he is a go getter. Plus it's literally at the same landing which you probably already knew.

amoshilel123 it’s tough to say. All 3 are completely different setups for different purposes. The tranx 500 set up is for surface irons, the cavalla set up was for bait, and the lexa 400 set up was universal (bait/light jig stick)

Was a time when 40- 50 lb moss backs crushed our Taddy scrambled egg colored irons but at least Blue fin tuna are within 1 day range .
@@Dirty.Hookers I got some pics in the Balboa angling club from the late 60's 70's and early 80's taking huge moss backs but we did not have the technology that's available these days. Imagine a 50lb forkie on a Penn 720 spinfisher lol!! Now its custom Stella reels, UV and LED Squid lures and Fluorocarbon that's getting better and better. Used to just throw TAddy irons on straight mono and said prayers not to get cut off on the rocks.
