Boiling Bass at Pyramid Lake! Ft. Bass Buster!
Book a trip with Jeff on Instagram! @Bass_Buster
bass_buster?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Such a fun day with Jeff from Bass Buster Sportfishing and our good friend Matt! With only a short half day, I think it is safe to say we did a number on these fish!
For the most part we got more quantity over quality, but did manage to get a handful of stand out models!
Started off the day fly lining shad for both smallmouth and largemouth bass, and quickly transitioned over to a super fun reaction bite!
Crank baits, Jerk baits, and weightless flukes were all getting bit on this day!
Great memories and times on the water with Jeff!
Highly recommend booking with him!
Hope you all enjoyed this video. Please like this video and subscribe to the channel if you have not already!

    greatest, simplist, and most informative video .... ever! .... been fishing offshore almost 3 years .... tuna, yellowtail, dorado .... captain of first boat i was on, best finess flyliner I have ever seen ... gave me about 10 minutes of instruction ... patience, lighter line and smaller hooks .... all he used were #1 and #2 flyliner hooks ... he used about a 100 feet of 25 or 30# flouro ... I have had a lot of success . definately will have seaguar gold label bite leader ... 50# flouro ... directly to my 25 and 30# mono or flouro topshot leader. Will give me the confidence to pitch into some bigger fish .... and land them .... not just to hook them!! thanks ... curtis

    25lbs mono is pretty strong. I had 25lb into 50lbs leaderline and landed a Bat-ray, the wing spread of over 6ft after a 25 minutes fight with my Shimano Bait-runner 6500 back in 2000’s. What a day!

    I'm a saltwater guy trying to learn the ways of you freshwater bass fishermen and this video was a big help! Would love it if you made a simple, short video describing all the popular bass rigs. A few I know off the top of my head: 1) Texas rig, 2) Ned rig, 3) Alabama rig, 4) Whacky rig, and 5) Carolina rig when appropriate. Would love to see and hear about the others, especially that one rig with two small lures swimming around each other like a school. Fluke rig?

      For some people, it’s just too much to do at once, and that’s perfectly fine. For me, I do prefer these reels over spinning for game fish though. They’re a lot more efficient for fly line fishing which is a lot of out tuna fishing here in Southern California

    There is one time that nose hooking the bait is better for sure. I went on a tuna trip and absolutley murdered them. I caught the first and last fish and enough in between to give plenty away. The last fish I caught is possibly one of my best fishing stories. We were on the way back to the landing. There were only about 8 baits left in the livewell. I stood there until we found another school of tuna. Everyone that was standing there with me i told we have to save the bait. Nose hook so we can bring them back of we do not get a bite. Sure enough we stopped on a school and everyone butt hooked the bait. Everyone casted in and I was talking shit to all of them. Sure enough no biters and the captain told us to wind in. I watched everyone else pop their baits off one by one. I slowly started winding my bait back to the boat. I got 5 cranks, 10 cranks, then when I hit about 15 line started peeling off my reel. 45lb yellowfin to end the trip. Everyone I had been standing with at that bait tank got to watch the last fish of the trip come over the rail. 😂

      Sometimes the release is more rewarding than the meat. A lot of us on these trips, go out for the passion of the sport and only want to keep what we know is enough. So we try not to kill for limits, and instead keep what we know we can eat and or give away extra.

    Hi Ray Wanted to know your thoughts on the Diawa Lexa 400 winn for throwing surface irons for yellowtail I have the reel and used it only once but would like to get more use , not a great caster with a conventional reel but practicing . The Lexa I can cast pretty good with but worried about the line capacity ? Any thoughts would be great look like your season started off pretty good

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I actually started off with a lexa 400 HD as my first surface iron reel. I had it spooled up filled with 50lb braid, and would do a +10ft 40lb mono leader. I had an 8’6” rod but maybe would even do a 9ft if it felt right. And I have my mono go from about 6”-8” of the line guide, up each guides of the rod, and snip about 10” from where I would usually have my jig hanging on a cast. The reason for that, it’ll give me a few chances to cut and retie before needing a whole new leader. Another option I did, was about half filled with 50lb braid, and about a 60-80yd top shot of 40 mono. Same reason for both, to keep the connection knot from going in and out of my line guide

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      However I will say, As I’ve grown to fish surface irons as much as I do, I will say a narrow open face conventional reel is a lot more efficient than a bait caster. A lexa 400 will put you in the right direction and help you understand how to cast big reels

    • @toddnoe2379
      @toddnoe2379 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Can you fly line with a tranx 500 ?..

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You definitely can. I’ve flatlined with my lexa and komodo 300s and 400s, but it’s important to make sure to get a full rotation of the handle when putting the reel in gear while setting the hook. Also to only do this when you know there’s no super big fish around. So I mainly will only fly line. A bait caster at yellowfin. The last thing you want to do is be under gunned on against a 100lb bft. With that being said, if you had a tranx 500 spooled up with 50-65lb braid and did a short leader, you should be pretty comfortably capable even against a 70+ even a 100lb fish fought correctly.

    When you fight a fish on conventional weather it be a yellowtail or tuna do you guide the line onto the spool as you fight or do you focus on the fight itself?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You want to do both. You always need to be paying attention to your surroundings and what your fish is doing or where it’s going. While doing so, you also want to be mindful of how your line is stacking while bringing the fish in or retrieving your lure. In some situations, it’s had to pay attention to guiding the line while weaving through other lines, but trying to keep the line stacking evenly why result in less casualties

    Oh man! I'm definitely going on a Tony Reyes trip. Can I book a spot on an open party trip? Also would my Okuma SCTi"s hold up down there? Once again another sick trip Ray!!! Nice job!

      Thanks Sean, much appreciated! Call longfin tackle to find out what availability they have! Most booking goes through Longfin. And about your SCTi, possibly. Which model did you get?

    What size line do you use for throwing irons?

      In the states I fish 40# XXX Izorline. In Baja or for tuna, I fish 50# XXX izorline

    Would you recommend taking 9' rod for Cabrilla? I have a trip coming soon.

      I’d recommend 7’6” - 8’, 8’6”max. Just because it’s mostly short distance accurate casting instead of long distance fan casting.

    I don't understand others keeping their line in the water when you are coming down the rail!! I always bring mine out and go to the other side.. Getting snagged is only going to screw you and keep me from fishing anyway!!

      I was as much at fault as the others around me. It is always important to be mindful of those hooked up to a fish so you can let them pass by you easily. With that being said, i definitely let my pride take over this night and wouldn’t give up the rod when I was tired, which made it so I couldn’t clear other lines as easily.

    I thought mono floats, braids don’t float. Am I the only person confused?

      So mono does float to an extent. When it comes to monofilament, with 0 resistance on the line, yes it will float. But after any weight is added to mono, it will sink fairly easily. Braid however, will go down for a little bit while fly lining, but after a decent amount of line is out, it will start to rise to the surface. Which I think is due to the amount of drag it has in the water because of the texture of the line and how it swells up a little bit when it’s wet
