For all the wankers complaining about Lou Reed: this is who he is, or was. He didn't put out like a great vocalist or guitarist. He was a poet. If you don't like it go listen to Rock and Roll Animal. I think he comes close to what you want on that one record. He should be appreciated for being years ahead of his time in the early years, and continuing to evolve and vary his performances of his great classics, while introducing new and poetic songs until he died. He was one of the greatest of all time in my opinion.

This is one of the best live albums ever made I remember seeing the channel 4 documentary on the velvet underground it changed the way I looked at them
I think this is the best performance from the entire album, too!
I wish Lou had put even just a bit more effort into his vocal performance during this tour, it could’ve been one of their crowning achievements but just fell short.

@@roanvaulter3318 I suspect he didn't give life to the performance of this tune because he no longer believed in its message. He remembered what it was like to be a heroin addict and he made it clear that he didn't advocate the habit. It's a wonder he even played the tune at all, if you ask me.
I thought he did alright, you gotta remember, he had about a three note range.
Still have my ticket stub from Lou's show in Tokyo, Japan 1975. The crowd were literally and figuratively speechless.

What an incredible reunion tour, it should have lasted a little longer if it weren't for Lou & John's feud.
Yeah it's a shame it didn't go on for longer, but I'm thankful it happened at all, otherwise there would literally be no existing footage, with sound, of the Velvets performing a song live, from beginning to end!
I'm happy to see us all agree on Lou's goofy inflections ruining what could have been a show/tour for the ages. I myself would have gotten into the VU much earlier in my life if this wasn't the ONLY thing of theirs that my dad would put on the TV during my teenage years - I steered clear of the band for quite a few years simply because of how annoying I found Lou to be here (despite really liking his Transformer album as a toddler). I guess my dad just wanted something to look at while chilling on a Tuesday night... I do love my dad but this (as well only sharing the flaming lips cover albums with me, rather than their original music (???)) was unforgivable 😅...

I completely understand your point of view. Personally, I try to completely ignore Lou when watching this show, and focus entirely on the other band members - as I mentioned in my Moe Tucker documentary; I'm thankful the shows happened and the live album/video was captured, as it has left us a fantastic visual document of Moe and Sterling's playing, that would otherwise be left only to the imagination.
It's documented that Sterling also suggested early on in the development of the reunion tour, that the band use similar equipment to what they used in the sixties to get a more accurate sound, but Lou (well known by this point for being a gearhead) opted for more modern equipment. This and his tendency to butcher his original vocal melodies are both decisions that make me, and clearly many others, scratch our heads...but at the end of the day; it was his material, and he was entitled to do whatever he felt was right to do with it.
As I put it to another user on here - transcribing a quote from Lou's Metal Machine Music album liner notes - after all, his week beats our year!

I was only a year old at the time...but I know how you feel. I think of all the songs they performed though, this was the one where he sounded the most faithful to the original recording. Still a ways off, but not as bad as some of the others!

My buddy and were jamming the other night through this concert. Venus in Furs in particular was sang terribly out of tune, as was everything Lou sang, but guitar playing was spot on. Nothing of that tender voice telling such as on banana album, shame, it's like he was upset or disappointed, who knows, knowing Lou's temperament.
Yes indeed, it puzzles us all! As I've said to many on here, at least we got to see John, Moe and Sterling giving it their best!
