  • Louise lives in her Tiny home that was built for her by a friend for roughly $45,000 Aud in a beautiful spot in a gum tree forest. She is a professional organizer and finds that living in a tiny house suits her well. Because prices of houses went up where she lives she was not able to buy a home and that forced her to look at other options which ended up being a blessing in disguise. If i had the wealth I'd buy a tonne of land and start a tiny house community. Lots of individual tiny homes. Lots of communal food gardens. Lots of playgrounds for children and wide open spaces. For people that are done with drama.and the noise in the world.

New Zealand have wonderful spaces all over for tiny house communities. They don’t have any of the crazy rules and regulations Australia has. Australia don’t want them become they won’t get rates without buying the land and Australia won’t allow such small plots to be made available. Oz, bucks first, NZ brilliant, they care about people first.

I did build a house myself in Germany. A 2 family house plus basement. In the end it was too big. Moved to Canada. Everything is bigger in North America. Even the houses. Bought a house in 2010. Brand new. Finished the basement myself. Did attach a brick patio 28x12 neighbors were jealous about. But 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, bonus room, big kitchen and living room area. For 3 people. Separation…. And you start thinking. For what? Nobody is actually using all this big houses properly. If you have 8 children. Then 4.5 bathrooms are fine. I moved to Panama. Building myself a 78m2 main floor house. Putting a 2nd level for much later in mind, and will finish it piece by piece. Construction costs? $20,000 - $25,000. Lot 500m2 was $14,000. Looking at the Tiny House movement. If I would have build a 50m2 one level house, it would cost me around $10,000 here in Panama. $45,000 or much more for a trailer size house? Ridiculous. Sorry.

I had a look at the prices of tiny houses today and couldn’t believe how expensive they are. Between $120 grand - $260 grand and thats without the headache of council approvals and red tape.
It really is extremely unfortunate when governments refuse to see housing department tiny houses as an option when it could easily solve Australia’s rental crisis.

In Perth they are cheaper than that and other than one council that is still not stepping up you no longer need council approval, the one main rule is that a tiny house can't be the first house put on the property, you can only build a tiny house on property that already has a house.

As the divide between the ultra rich and the poor increases, as the middle class disappears, ”they” may want us to move to trailer parks and call it ”tiny houses”. Also, these tiny houses pop up in nice landscapes. I thought we were to cluster housing, not sprinkle it over nature. I get it in Australia. It doesn’t work in Belgium.

I was shocked at how cozy the small space felt. My family and I really enjoyed spending time in this RV which we used both as an "apartment" for me and as a family getaway since it was so close to the beach. Good on you, Loise! I too live in a not-so-tiny house that I built myself with all things sorted to suit my needs. I am 6'2 and all my cabinets are taller, the home is taller than typical at just under 15' to give more space in my loft so I do not feel cramped in that space. Your house is lovely and the raked angles on the exterior and steel construction, siding, and all the windows makes me feel like I am looking at a smaller version of my lovely home. Great Job!

Wow! Absolutely fabulous. What a great build and the indoor outdoor feel is just perfect.
Have you ever thought about purchasing an air fryer. They’re not a drain on power, they’re portable, don’t take up a lot of space, cook quicker and are perfect for small spaces.
Who needs a big place, you just accumulate more stuff you don’t need. Thanks for sharing just a lovely lifestyle and inspirational build.

Tiny home movement is more than house designs. It’s the anti-consumption philosophy. Recycling, buy and keep anything you only need, spend more time outdoor with people you care about and lastly as Louise said, kindness. Love this video.

Really lovely home and parking spot. I appreciated her candor about how she wound up in a tiny home, but I also believe that her message about living with less is spot on. One thing I wondered about was the louver windows during winter. I would imagine cold air would seep through even when shut. And though I personally am not a fan of loft beds, I do understand the need for them in small spaces.

    • @allthingsfrench

The climate is very moderate around here and, although I haven’t lived in it through the deepest part of winter. Yet, I’m sure that with window coverings, it will be fine.
