    An Update: I'm happy to report that Guerlain's US website is selling Nahema again, and I got it. In the bottle it comes out pure honeyed rose without the harsh top notes as the samples I got. It's such a soothing fragrance and one of the best rose fragrances that I own.

    I'm a Nahema fan. I have Nahema Guerlain from 2015, Nahema Guerlain PDT (decanted) 1987, Nahema Guerlain Extrait (decanted) 2014 and Nahema EDP (the controversial 2021 remix). My favourites are the Extrait and (in truth) the new one. Sadly, it was immediately discontinued.

    Thank you so much for this absolutely beautiful, in depth review of Nahema. What an absolute delight! Every word in your description resonates with my opinion and categorization of it. The write up from your book was also very on point. Jean-Paul Guerlain's subtitled it "Daughter of Fire". Nahema is unique. It has EVERYTHING. I first smelled it on a male friend of mine, and it turned out fruity and woody on him, not bringing out any esplicit rose appearance. He told me it was a woman's perfume and let me try it and I was hooked for life. I am so happy to see you have the previous releases of it and also a real vintage one. I have those refills and the bee bottle, (all EDP) ordered the same year. The bee bottle for some reason comes across with a clearly different and much sharper scent than the refills. Thanks to my friend I was lucky to purchase the genuine perfume right after its release in 1979. It became my signature scent, and though I already used Shalimar, Nahema became an even bigger head turner by both men and women. Men absolutely adored it. I was frequently stopped on the street by men politely asking what I was wearing. The original perfume (7,5ml) was this gorgeous circle shaped bottle on a tiny "plinth". A design masterpiece, like alchemy, as the scent itself. The original perfume was more heavy on yellow roses, tonka beans and benzoines, coming across as more silky, softer, like it was glowing in the dark. It was also a gorgeous day perfume, like a veil of purity and beauty (seemingly bringing out the best in everyone :) Nahema was golden like the afternoon sun in summer. It's as perfect in front of the fireplace in autumn and winter as it is in spring and summer. Thank you again.

    Nahema is my favorite rose, too, and I discovered it only recently. It's right up there with my other two favorite Guerlains, Samsara and L'Heure Bleue (Vol de Nuit and Après L'Ondée are growing on me, too--if only I had the budget for a complete collection, but maybe someday!)

    Oh no, I somehow missed your livestream. But great idea and happy belated fragrance day! I was fortunate to find a tester of Nahema extrait in the back of a shelf at a perfumery in Austria a few months ago (they didn't let me buy it though). And as much as I want to like her, I can't really relate to Nahema. The Chamade-y spiciness always pushes me off. YSL Paris is still my favourite in the 70s/80s rose department.

    Based on this video I went and tried Nahema (the current edp or edt), and was immediately transported back into my childhood. I have no Idea who in my surroundings might have worn it. Also a little hotel I had completejy forgotten about and where I had stayed for just one night with my parents and my sister came to mind. When inquiring, my mom told me the owner was a rose lover and the place was filled with everything rose, potpourries, fresh roses, dry roses wall paper etc..... isn't scent memory amazing?

    Ever since seeing another video of yours I've been on the lookout for Nahema. It's pretty rare to find now. I had intended to purchase it directly from Guerlain, but it appears that it's totally out of stock from their site for the US. Thankfully I have found some 5ml vials on Etsy which I had ordered and I'm looking forward to their arrival. I've bookmarked a few vendors that have the 2021 edition of it, between Strawberrynet and Selfridges in case I want more of it. I got a mini sample bottle from eBay a few weeks ago, and I think it may have been originally from 1979 because the scent of it was a bit weird from the start, it was like when you get wine that's sat around too long and it smelled off/spoiled. I'm quite excited to get the samples though, which comes from the bee bottle. I do love peach notes in perfumes since it's also in one of my top favorites, L'air du Temps. Those notes really balance out a fragrance.
    From the description of it, it seems like Nahema was ahead of its time, before Dior's Poison and flankers came into style.
    Also based on that description of Nahema, I've also gotten a travel sized spray of Samsara as well, which I'm excited to get.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for this comment.
      I’d say that, yes, Nahema was definitely way ahead of its time.

    • @krissyrose14
      @krissyrose14 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Persolaise I got the samples in the mail and tried Nahema out. I found that if I used a lot of it, it tended to have a very strong top note that was very much like greenery and a hint of earth, pepper, and fire, though when I applied a small amount of it, and let it do its magic during the dry down, and I was amazed at how accurately they made it smell just like a fresh red rose. It's quite soothing. Thank you for the review and expertise on this, it's a new favorite rose fragrance of mine, in addition to Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop.

    Here's my list of rose scents I need to try: Nahema, Myrrhe Eglantine, Rose des Vents. Incidentally, here's what Luca Turin has to say about Nahema: He calls it "an indecisive lesser light" and "woolly ". LT's always fun to read, but when I look at his judgement of perfumes I like, I seldom agree. So, given your recommendation, that makes me even more curious about Nahema. The sad thing is that perfumeries will stay shut down for a considerable time yet, so it'll have to wait. Something to look forward to. I appreciate that you continue your work, and make it possible for me to focus on such entirely irrelevant, though beautiful and interesting things.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching, but you’ve raised a bit of a mystery.
      In my copy of The Guide, LT writes: “... the unearthly radiance of Nahema is without equal among perfumery roses, and so awe-inspiring that nobody even tries.”
      🤔

    • @Sebastian-hs4mm
      @Sebastian-hs4mm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PersolaiseWell, I guess that shows that LT isn't always consistent. My quote is from his introductory article "The Shifting Shape of Fragrance" that appears in Perfumes, The Guide 2018. Nahema does not receive a review of its own in that book, but is mentioned only in passing in the discussions of La Petite Robe Noire Couture (Guerlain) and Sensemilla (La Via del Profumo). I should really also get the earlier A-Z Guide. Perhaps there are more such contradictions to be found.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curious...

    • @Sebastian-hs4mm
      @Sebastian-hs4mm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Persolaise I suppose LT has merely changed his mind over time. Already in "The Little Book" (2011) he amended his 2008 review, which you cite, as follows: "2011: The latest version reveals how near the edge of the abyss Jean-Paul Guerlain was playing in the original. There has clearly been a small change in the formulation up top, and the vivid original is now borderline garish. [...] however, it is still perfectly fine at a distance and with the passage of time". By 2018, he may have become still more reticent about it. Although this can't be the whole explanation, because the 2018 passage is specifically about the original Nahema, not the latest version. Well, you could always ask him when you meet again.

    I used Nahema from the early eighties. It has, until recently, been my only fragrance. There was a time in the late nineties when it became difficult to find and the rumour was that it was to be discontinued. Luckily, that proved to be incorrect. However, now it does seem to have been discontinued. I have struggled to find an alternative fragrance, as I am often allergic to many ingredients. So sad, as other fragrances I can wear usually smell awful on me. Does anyone know of an alternative with the same oomph?
