    I would recommend pulling the tape prior to it drying which risks bridging between the paint and tape and increases the likelihood of pulling some of the fresh paint, since the paint is still wet, use a pair of latex gloves or any old pair of gloves to do the pulling.

    Nice camera fade job @ 3:33 I'm a new painter and have learned a small bead of clear caulk along the tape line will insure a perfect crisp line. And I'm sure you sell that too! Learned it from, The Idaho painter, he's a perfectionist, Love It !

    Do you calk before or after painting ant won't it keep you from getting a crisp line?

    I painted my moldings and trim and when I finished, I pulled off the tape. The tape pulled the paint off and left bare spots in some places. What happened?
    We sanded with 220 sandpaper, wiped off to clean, taped and painted.

    Just buy you a nicer brush one.. 2. learn how to cut in. If you must tape use your 5n1 on your corners to cut tape straight .. after watching a couple of these paint videos I see that I must create one to show all you guys up

    my friend just painted my hall ways trims and doors with exterior paint.with Valspar aspire paint & primer exclusive ever luxe formula. I'm just a little worry this is bad for me and family. I notice it smells a lot. my nephew caughs a lot too. I was thinking he was sick. he painted a week ago & just yesterday again. I just realized it was exterior paint. could this bring any health issues in the future? if I wanted to paint over it with interior do I need prime first or can I just buy paint with prime? thanks

    Great tips thanks! Isn't there a method of caulking over the edge of the tape for clean lines?

      +David Hillard Hi I'm a painter you 100 correct we use caulking to seal the like and to prevent paint bleeding and make crispy nice strait line, apply the caulking over the blue tape and clean it as much as possible.

      +David Hillard - yes, just use clear paintable caulk, that way if some of the caulk gets under the tape, it's clear so doesn't show. Minimalist bead fingered down to a minimal coating necessary. Make sure to paint immediately and pull the tape immediately after laying on the paint.

      B Miller How about if you paint second coat?

    • @brianmi40
      @brianmi40 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      erl412 good question. Personally my hand is good enough as an amateur to just stay back 1/4 - 1/2" from the caulk on the second cut in and just have a wet rag for a slip up. Remember, whenever cutting in, you unload the brush well away from the edge being cut in and take minimal paint on the brush into the actual cut in, that way you dont apply enough to run, more like the brush barely has enough to cover for 6-8" or so, and then it goes back up into the area you unloaded it into (a couple inches back in safety) and re-wet to go back and continue the cut in. This is where quality brushes pay off as they hold and apply paint better, and form a better curl of even bristles to get an effortless smooth cut in line... Near me Big Lots had some crazy good brushes for 2 bucks, good as 5-6 buck ones at H Depot,,, but its been a while.
      Now if the paint being covered might yet bleed through somewhat in that tiny zone of only a single coat, you could either tape just off the caulk prior so that you can cut all the way to the caulk, or knowing i was covering a strong color, i would have primed before painting the first coat to knock down a strong color.
      To me the idaho painter is the best on youtube with all his vids.... Good luck.
      Best tip: never paint a wall with a roller without a 4' extension on it.

    just curious but it looked as if there was paint on the hardwood floors after you finished? i could be wrong. also never let it fully dry before pulling the tape off.
