Neurodiverse people actually tend to communicate with each other pretty well, and neurotypicals communicate well amongst themselves. It's only once they intermingle that wires start getting crossed. If anything, someone who's capable of Lesson Zero should've been more wary in the first place.
This is one of my favorite episodes because it's so goddamn horrifying in its implications, but it has stellar comedy to perfectly compliment the chaos. It made me wonder how the hell Starlight's morality got this skewed. She's my favorite character because there's so much extreme and off-kilter about her, and she connects with villains and "gray" characters in a really interesting way because she never fully eradicated her dark side.
I can relate to Starlight on so many levels. I also have no idea how to handle leading, or how to communicate properly in a group environment. Starlight got so relatable over the series, getting better as time went on! Also she has the best mane style of the entire main cast no question.
I love how Starlight casts a mind control spell that had physical side effects on the girls and instead of anyone being distrusting or mad in the end they're all just "haha yep! Classic Starlight!" I'd expect Rainbow or AJ to at least be wary of her after the stunt she pulled but I guess not! Glimmer really is the writers pet huh?
Compared to the time they were stripped of their special talents and kept in a small confined space for literal days - only being let out for less than 3 minutes to see if they’ve “converted” yet - I’d say this isn’t that unusual of starlight. Either way, the mind control is still as fcked up as everything else she’s done but the “all-forgiving” ponies didn’t put it against her.

For example, sunset shimmer had to build back her reputation from scratch, starting with all the people she bullied. Another example would be trixie who had to face the backlash of her past fraud and everything she did to ponyville. But Starlight? The fate of the world turned on its side; imprisoning the six protectors of modern day equestria and then mind controlling them after they forgave her? Yeah, I totally get you now. They may get away with “haha we’re so used to it” but it doesn’t make it right.

I think that would've been a much better direction for her character, she could properly redeem herself and in my opinion she'd be much more entertaining in small doses. You can still have her make friends with Trixie, Maud and the others just don't force her into so many episodes. We also wouldn't have gotten the whole mind controlling thing *again* if that happened. Though someone would've still needed to make a proper backstory for her because "my childhood friend moved away boohoo" is the worst backstory ever you could give to a villain who forcefully brainwashes ponies and can alter time itself

While I overall like Twilight, one of my gripes with her character is how forceful she can be when it comes to friendship lessons (something she probably got from her own mentor). Yes, I get it's a show about friendship, but I feel like a lot of the episodes run on poor communication and sometimes pride. But I don't think any episode ever shows Twilight in the wrong for how she goes about some of her lessons (besides the one where she disliked Starlight and Trixie becoming friends). Probably unpopular, but I honestly grew to like Starlight more than Twilight.
Of all the ponies to freak out over doing stuff with, Starlight had to name Pinkie Pie. The one and only pony confirmed where Starlight did spend time with the task of baking together as early as Starlight's reformation. Yeah... I hate how OP unicorns are sometimes.

This was the episode that made me realize Starlight was completely unsalvageable as a character. But, y’know, by the time you’re 8 seasons in, it’s too late to tap out.
I managed to tap out at the end of this season and yes Starlight was absolutely the main reason for that decision. Did come back for a couple of eps in the last seasons for that amazing villain song and the finale so wasn't a total ragequit.
In a way, I love how inconsistent the writters are with their characters/story and the fact that it never ticked them the wrong way that they made the decision to forgive a mind controlling villain, only for her to do the same shit in a later episode without consequences.
Yep, it's funny because I loved Starlight as a villain but when she's "reformed" she just makes me audibly groan. I only enjoyed Glimmer episodes where she was either still a villain or hanging out with Trixie. Villain Glimmer and "reformed" Glimmer feel like two completely different characters to me
@@JellyFishGell the issue is that, after they redeemed Starlight, they never gave us a reason WHY she’d still be around as a Sixth Ranger. Sunset Shimmer had a whole movie showing how she had to *prove* that she changed and she brought a new, stronger dynamic to the HuMane 6 there. Starlight...just doesn’t. There’s nothing unique about her personality, she has no unique skills or talents, she doesn’t even have a defined role aside from just being ‘Diet Twilight Sparkle’ but with a more extreme background. Pairing her up with characters with actual personality like Maud, Thorax, Discord, or Trixie (the last two having much stronger motives and redemptions) doesn’t make her look stronger by comparison; it just emphasizes the weaknesses of Starlight’s lack of character. They could’ve just left her at her original village to atone for what she did and pop up every now and then for a friendship lesson or something and it’d actually make more sense. Also, we wouldn’t get episodes like this.

Starlight is just such an unnecessary addition to the show (along with Twilight's library being destroyed and the friendship school in my opinion) she's always felt as if she were missing something and I think you described what perfectly. She doesn't have anything going for her, her only purpose is to be a writers pet and that really hinders her personality. It's a shame because we could've even seen her actually earn her redemption and make new friends while still making these sorts of mistakes and blunders but the show doesn't treat her that way, she never had to earn her redemption like every other redeemed villain did she just got handed the position of Princess Twilight's student because what? Her friend moved away when she was younger?? Yes that definitely justifies brain washing ponies into becoming members of your cult. Cosy Glow gets thrown in prison immediately but Starlight gets off the hook and secures herself a position at the top of the ladder, and even after all that she still doesn't add anything to the main cast. It just makes me sad that the potential for a really well done villain redemption got thrown away like that

I’ve come to appreciate this episode a bit thanks to, of all things, Bravely Default. Simply put, Starlight using her power to its fullest, responsibility aside, is a better ideal of what an Arcanist should be than the actual Arcanists we got. Still makes this bad as an MLP episode, though.
Concerning 4:45 Not everyone seems to realize, Twilight never *won* that original fight between Starlight and herself in the season finale- philosophy about 'fighting isn't winning' aside, and the real victory being friendship aside.

The tipping point for Starlight to mind-control five of the Mane 6 was probably when Pinkie Pie activated that frosting dispensing baked goods item without even pressing the tip.
Hasbro, as much as they've acknowledged him, needs to canonize his OC and make him an official toy with him getting a cut of the sales.
I doubt they would go so far as make him a toy (perhaps only one toy for him to own specifically) but I was hoping that sometime in the series, they might have put his OC in the background at some point.

While I overall like Twilight, one of my gripes with her character is how forceful she can be when it comes to friendship lessons (something she probably got from her own mentor). Yes, I get it's a show about friendship, but I feel like a lot of the episodes run on poor communication and sometimes pride. But I don't think any episode ever shows Twilight in the wrong for how she goes about some of her lessons (besides the one where she disliked Starlight and Trixie becoming friends).
Probably unpopular, but I honestly grew to like Starlight more than Twilight.
Of all the ponies to freak out over doing stuff with, Starlight had to name Pinkie Pie. The one and only pony confirmed where Starlight did spend time with the task of baking together as early as Starlight's reformation. Yeah... I hate how OP unicorns are sometimes.
Now that I think about it, the mindless Fluttershy could be the reason why animals ran away.

This was the episode that made me realize Starlight was completely unsalvageable as a character. But, y’know, by the time you’re 8 seasons in, it’s too late to tap out.
I managed to tap out at the end of this season and yes Starlight was absolutely the main reason for that decision. Did come back for a couple of eps in the last seasons for that amazing villain song and the finale so wasn't a total ragequit.
In a way, I love how inconsistent the writters are with their characters/story and the fact that it never ticked them the wrong way that they made the decision to forgive a mind controlling villain, only for her to do the same shit in a later episode without consequences.
Yep, it's funny because I loved Starlight as a villain but when she's "reformed" she just makes me audibly groan. I only enjoyed Glimmer episodes where she was either still a villain or hanging out with Trixie. Villain Glimmer and "reformed" Glimmer feel like two completely different characters to me
@@JellyFishGell the issue is that, after they redeemed Starlight, they never gave us a reason WHY she’d still be around as a Sixth Ranger. Sunset Shimmer had a whole movie showing how she had to *prove* that she changed and she brought a new, stronger dynamic to the HuMane 6 there.
Starlight...just doesn’t. There’s nothing unique about her personality, she has no unique skills or talents, she doesn’t even have a defined role aside from just being ‘Diet Twilight Sparkle’ but with a more extreme background. Pairing her up with characters with actual personality like Maud, Thorax, Discord, or Trixie (the last two having much stronger motives and redemptions) doesn’t make her look stronger by comparison; it just emphasizes the weaknesses of Starlight’s lack of character. They could’ve just left her at her original village to atone for what she did and pop up every now and then for a friendship lesson or something and it’d actually make more sense. Also, we wouldn’t get episodes like this.
@@ThatRandomEncounterGuy I actually love the idea of her staying at the village and popping in every once in a while, honestly something the writers should've gone with instead. Starlight is just such an unnecessary addition to the show (along with Twilight's library being destroyed and the friendship school in my opinion) she's always felt as if she were missing something and I think you described what perfectly.
She doesn't have anything going for her, her only purpose is to be a writers pet and that really hinders her personality. It's a shame because we could've even seen her actually earn her redemption and make new friends while still making these sorts of mistakes and blunders but the show doesn't treat her that way, she never had to earn her redemption like every other redeemed villain did she just got handed the position of Princess Twilight's student because what? Her friend moved away when she was younger?? Yes that definitely justifies brain washing ponies into becoming members of your cult. Cosy Glow gets thrown in prison immediately but Starlight gets off the hook and secures herself a position at the top of the ladder, and even after all that she still doesn't add anything to the main cast. It just makes me sad that the potential for a really well done villain redemption got thrown away like that

I’ve come to appreciate this episode a bit thanks to, of all things, Bravely Default. Simply put, Starlight using her power to its fullest, responsibility aside, is a better ideal of what an Arcanist should be than the actual Arcanists we got.
Still makes this bad as an MLP episode, though.
