I just love the story of how they got Patton Oswalt to be in this. I mean.....I guess it's a simple story: his daughter liked MLP, so he guest starred in it. But when he came back with his family in Season 9, his daughter had grown out of MLP and had gotten into Marvel. That made me laugh cause I was thinking "Wow, she grew out of MLP so fast!" I mean.....she was around 7 when Season 6 aired and around 10 during Season 9.
It's little details such as the like/dislike ratio on Quibble's video which make these videos so fun to watch closely Also the "Convention Pot Dealer" got me lmao
Before that episode came out, I had asked some of the artists at a con if Quibbles color was dye for his cosplay or not. They said that it was his natural colors.

To this day, Stranger Than Fan Fiction remains as one of my all time favorite RD/Daring Do episodes especially since Patton Oswalt guest starred for the episode, his performance as Quibble Pants was just brilliant Patton's voice fit the character all too perfectly, and as for the plot of the episode i found it pretty interesting but not too surprising that there were Daring Do conventions and the fact that RD was trying to convince a skeptic fan that Daring Do is real kinda sounded like something she would do.
The idea is good but the actual adventure plot is too generic and Daring Do isn’t very interesting here. It’s not bad but it’s pretty uneven in it’s appeal.

The convention pot dealer and the Baltimore Sinkhole probably panned out in Daring Do's favor to ultimately aid her in finding the treasure more than Rainbow Dash's assistance did.
And funny enough, when the first half of MLP: FIM Season 6 came to Netflix, this episode was there, so you could watch it a few hours before it aired on cable.

See I'd say Stranger than Fanfiction is very much on the positive side, if not quite up there with the dancing parade of pandas that was Slice of Life. Sure Quibble's annoying but Dash is presented as just as much so they don't really pick a side between the two extremes of the ultra positive fanboy/girl who can't accept even mild criticism and the overly nitpicky to the point of losing oneself to negativity. Both get a 'your PoV is valid' at the end, and even the infamous dakimura is presented with barely more judgement than a shrug as sure it's a thing and more amusing really than anything bad. Fame and Misfortune however felt like some of the staff had very much up to here with the youtube reviewers and wanted to deliver a 'fuck you' as loudly as possible.

Hasbro, however, didn't like the idea and wanted to turn it into another meta humor episode, this time ripping on critical bronies. And, well, the writers couldn't do anything to object. Iirc, Larson even publicly disowned the episode, and said Slice of Life is a far more accurate representation of how the staff feels about the fandom than Fame and Misfortune.

I was basing my comment on what I remembered happening from when it aired and how there was a whole bunch of bruised feelings out there about it along with the ep not turning out very well as it just felt rather mean spirited
I used to recap the show and I am absolutely apalled that I entirely missed, and to be fair on myself I've never heard anyone else call it out before either, the convention pot dealer. That's an absolutely brilliant spot, and equally sneaky brilliant on the part of the show.
Holy sh-t I just realised that the scene where Dash and Quibble are captured a second time and Dash struggles against the ropes and jumps forward, yelling that he won’t get away with this, is a friggin Spirit (Stallion of the Cimarron) reference to when he’s captured and meets the army leader guy the first time. I just put the two scenes next to each other and they’re so similar in movements and body language. I’m tempted to believe they’ve always wanted to have Dashie acting like a wild, untamable horse again (Return of Harmony Part 2)

I actually didn't find Quibble that annoying, and I hate those types of characters who act ignorant and don't listen to others, but let me explain. If a random person (or pony) who you just could into a fight about how one of the books you read we're terrible, and the next thing you know you get placed into a situation similar to the series you are reading, AND with the literal villain characters, AND you get kidnapped with the exact person you were fighting...Yeah, most people would get the point from here now. when you asked for a explanation on why quibble looks like daring do i thought twins separated at birth. think about it. cutie marks can be depicted to be similar occupation and they look similar like twins do and they can be siblings and be different pony types. we have never seen their parents as well so one of them could be a pegusas there fore making one of them a pegusas and i mean we've seen different pony types with the cake twins. and they seem and look like they are the same age so it could be possible that they are twins separated when they were born. do you think that i could be right with that? i mean we've never seen their parents at all or know about their past either.

Kind of telling that we get one episode (Slice of Life) that's a thank you to the fandom but two episodes (this and Fame and Misfortune) that tell how the showrunners REALLY feel about the fans. Not that I blame them......
It's kind of telling how the show's quality went down with Season 6+ and the writers blamed everyone but themselves.
