Sense of direction, generally your looking at passage entrances shape of entrance etc. constantly look back at where you went. That way the way out looks familiar
Great question. I often think about that. If I were to go, I’d make sure to let someone responsible know exactly where I was going, what I was doing & if they don’t hear from me by (said time), call search & rescue, let them know they’ll need to repel, etc, etc. This is what I do when I’m day hiking or multiple day hiking in the mountains. I know they can follow their foot prints back a lot of time but when there’s rock, there’s no foot prints. So I feel like I’d have a small guide line (like cave diving) or a small can of orange paint to paint along the way for myself or for search and rescue if the event, they are needed. I understand I’m a text book over thinker but I spend a lot of time outdoors & learned a lot from watching the movie 127 hours & various other movies & documentaries. I’m a surveyor of 25+ years & have a great sense of direction and an eidetic memory, however I’m still very cautious.
Some markers are often already there (you could see some in the video), you can also place some extra markers yourself (stone heaps, etc). On top of that, of course, good memory and keep track of what you're doing.
@@nfi2nfi2 Markers.. markers everywhere.. its not enough looking back once in a while, as every surface can look different depending on the angle you watch from

Anyone else ever turned on the TH-cam captions adding a tiny bit of extra entertainment value to the videos. I find it somewhat humorous to compare how off they are from the actual dialogue in the video.
Ah, those fossils are called "Crinoids" (pronounced cry-noids) or I believe, Sea Lilies is another name for them. I find them in the Ordovician shale near where I live. ~450 million years old. What you're seeing is more or less the "stem" part of them, although it's not a stem. They are pretty cool and rather common in many layers. What's for certain is that rock was once part of a shallow sea, teaming with life. Those would have been buried by undersea landslides most likely and they've been buried for tens of millions of years or more, unseen until you found them.
The earth is only around 6000 years old! God created EVERYTHING! These were probably from the FLOOD of Noah! Read The Bible people please. Know your history of. When, how and why God created all of us and the entire world, universe and all. Jesus is the only way! Y'all aren't obligated to listen but I am obligated to tell you! Jesus loves you!
@StaceyRenay2969 That rock is an old coral reef. The sediment deposits at less than a millimeter per year...then it's compacted...and it got millions of salt water critters and corals in it. Huge coral reefs turned to rock. That's what you're looking at. Those don't exactly spring up when it rains too much do they? No. Those are crinoids, I know what they are because I studied. They lied to me too about this same stuff, there is not one single tiny itty bitty shred of evidence for Noah's flood. Even my 3 year old knows that the Bible stories are parables, fables with morals. Plus the Bible never ever ever says how old the Earth is, that was some guy in the middle ages who claimed that. You missed the whole point of those Bible stories if you think it's literal. You missed the moral of those stories if you think that the Earth was actually covered in water which there isn't nearly enough water to even do that. Zero sense is what that makes. Literally zero. People know things now, you can read about things. Science is cool and it works because it's right, it's the most accurate way to describe reality. That's why it WORKS. Watch a geology TH-cam Nick Zentner is a great teacher. Science-it ain't got nothing to do with Gods.
First off, I love what you two do and how you do it. Having said that, I have a modest suggestion.... There are so many times you comment on things "in passing". Often, quite interesting things that we viewers didn't notice. If you could take 5 or 10 extra seconds to point out exactly what you mean, well, that would be awesome. I know many others feel the same. God bless and keep it up. You're both awesome!
As an aside, there are many channels that deal with missing people that went hunting, hiking, berrypicking etc and are NEVER found. I always think things like this are often what happened in one form or another.
Dude! that little hole led to all that! I wonder if the folks at the 911 center have any idea what they are on top of? That has got to be a go back with your whole crew of friends and lots of batteries, gear, and rope! That was an amazing cave! Better than that last sardine can y'all tried to get into.
It is indeed a huge cave system, some places the rock is dangerously loose and unpredictable. Those sharp edges can damage the ropes, so watch your step, and be safe at all times! Great video!
and the fall damage the cat has to took multiple times to reach the lowest level . . . it probably went downwards cause it eventually lost hopes in trys to get upwards

I’m the same way with heights. I could be watching a movie and somebody is outside of a tall building standing on a ledge. For Christs sake it’s just a freakin movie but my body reaction as if I was there. Infuriating 😂
I was literally yelling at my screen “Stop already! You’re gonna get stuck” as if they could hear me. I kept imagining worst case scenarios (getting stuck, rocks caving in on them, getting lost, an injury, etc.) As a kid, I thought I was invincible too but these guys are on another level.
I used to go in caves but now it scares me as an adult. I'd never do all this. Where did this fear come from, or why did I not have it before? I am on psych meds now. Lol
That's insane!!! I had the heebee jeebees the whole time! I don't like heights or tight spaces so my anxiety was up watching you guys, but I also found it amazing! Thanks to people like you with the sense of adventure and nerves of steel, we get to experience this!!! Thank's guys! You rock!!!!!
The camera makes everything seem smaller and tighter than it is - between watching this and having a stuffed up nose, I almost had a claustrophobia induced panic attack.
I was hoping one of the desperado caves was this deep. I'll be honest. I couldn't do ANY of that if I didn't have a rope with me leading all the way back to where I entered. Otherwise, I'm not at all sure I'd find my way out. That's why I wish you had a underground gps to map where you go three dimensionally. i would have used the tree outside as a first anchor point than the rocks that look like they will be come loose at some point. i don't know anything about cave climbing stuff but still they did some questionable things with the rope

Wow thank you for the explanation.I had no idea.😮
Very cool
Awesome thank you!
Good idea, I saw some cool rock slabs I would have loved to see in detail. Maybe next time,?

As an old-time speelunker myself, I can tell you that if a rock looks "sketchy," DON'T TRUST IT WITH YOUR LIFE.
I am convinced that a fair number of missing people wound up with this fate. It makes sense.
What?
Its a possibility the ground gave out 200-400feet down they go.
What a horror for those animals that fell in😢 neat to explore, but the entrance definitely needs to be made ppl and animal safe.

I wonder how many people through history have stumbled into a hole like this, and just disappeared? I mean, it has to be a considerable number.
