Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on TH-cam!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

Love your channel Gly. Me and my wife watch your episodes every week!! Love the exploration and the history behind the places you explore. Just curious, will you ever explore some of the old California gold mines?
Sounds like the biggest thing since "Gone With the Wind"
Have you ever experienced an earthquake while exploring?
Did you hear that knocking in the background when you was at the 600.
What’s the strangest thing you found down in a mine?
As long as you find the courage to go into those dark, old, dangerous mines, I will find the courage to leave the safety of my bed to go to pee at night.
That can be quite dangerous if you have cats that hairball frequently.
I had to walk out to an outhouse. It was easier than sitting on a pot. We got indoor plumbing when I was in third grade. 8 years old. 1951.
@Ted_C you're a hero as well!
@jon castro 😳😳😳😳😳😳
Ha ha good one
Cool to see you going down a little farther by yourself but you really shouldn't be climbing down old ladders with a camera in your hand and without a rope! Don't trust old ladders...they can and do fail. We want to see you exploring until you get old and grey!
“Gly”: Thanks Frank! Going down was easy but climbing back up damn near killed me. There’s more to the story about this mine that I’m going to have to tell you someday.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Oh man, that's a brutal tease
Very true Frank.
I was more worried about the air quality at deeper levels given sulphides and rot.
All the best to both of ya. Longtime sub of both.

I was thinking frank would have a rope, why is this lot so crazy?.
He missed alot of denim though..
As a former coal miner of 22 1/2 years, I have seen my share of dangerous roof and ribs. There were several fatalities of various causes at a couple of the mines I worked at. It was when we were pulling (mining) pillars (room and pillar mining) after driving up a section of the mine that it became really dangerous. I was a continuous miner operator for most of that time although I also did a lot of roof bolting. I developed PTSD from all the years of escaping from falling ribs and top. I still occasionally have nightmares. You Sir are a brave individual.
Holy that does not sound fun, at all. Hoping you got some good lay in return at the very least
@@trollscream Lol, married and divorced twice. When it was good it was good, and when it was bad it was bad. I'm seventy two and still a workaholic. And the ladies like a lot of attention.
I had a friend who did mining for a month or 2 he did something like set something a support in place so the ribs could be set up or something to that extent, he said he felt like he was gonna die every day and quit, talked about water flooding in and all this other crazy stuff in just a month or 2 of work
Yea I don’t like enclosed spaces any longer either. In fact I will not fly for that reason.
I ran a scoop for many years and have also roof bolted, not to mention I had my MET card. I’ve seen a lot as well and my dad helped out with the Rescue in WV years ago.
Your "nope" point: hallway so absolutely twisted and warped that it's shocking that it's even still standing.
My "nope" point would have been the spider.

Your entire channel is proof as to why women live longer. Keep it up sir!
All you had to do was not be sexist.
@@lowz1369 guess how many females worked in 19th and 20th century ore mines? Few if any until a little incident called WWII where they needed all the men to go fight and die in Europe and the Pacific, necessitating female manpower to keep industry afloat in the absence of the regular crew. Men on average work more life threatening jobs than women, this is a universal fact. They then also tend to have hobbies with complimentary threat levels. I've worked in healthcare for 5 years with the elderly, and the demographic is disproportionately female in all arenas: memory care, long term care, and assisted living. Even the staff is 90% female. I was often the only male on staff for my shifts.
Learn to take a joke.

As a woman I can say this statement is false. Not all of us are scared of life and boring. We like a good adventure just as well. :)
Thank you. Your videos have become something my wife and I enjoy watching together.
Given the state of the shaft in places, it is extremely likely you are the last person to be in some of those areas before they collapse. You have more guts to go into some of those really unsafe areas.
This is by far the most sketchy mine I've seen you explore. I kept thinking, its okay. Gly, you can turn back, we won't judge you, its okay! I think you made the right decision turning back. Thank you sir.
Like you explained earlier, we are looking at a lost art. Really something to see though...thanks so much.
That was pretty dramatic, tiptoeing through a thoroughly rotten section of a mine. Your bravery, or fool-hardiness, is appreciated as most people watching always want to see what's at the end of that drift or down that winze but there is a time and place to call it too risky. To assure your rescue I assume you had the car keys? What prompted them to drive a vertical shaft where they did? There didn't appear to be any evidence of silver ore at the 100-foot station. An outcropping of barite on the surface? That is a lot of shaft to hope they finally hit a vein of something that paid. Thanks for sharing.
“Gly”: They found a vein of Barite that went down nearly 1000 feet into the hill and to remove it they had to get underneath the vein so that they could use gravity to remove the ore more efficiently.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces I assume then there was an outcropping on the surface and they weren't just lucky.

Gly, awesome adventure. You really pushed it on this one and we benefited from it on this end. The last part of the 600' that you pushed into was really sketchy and to be honest I would have said "Nope, no way" to doing that. The ribs and back are failing badly and this will most likely be the last images of that area. Glad to see that Mr. M and Randy where together with you and can only image what was waiting on the table when all of you got back. Take care and safe journeys for all of you.
“Gly”: Thanks Gordon! Your right, one more earthquake and the chute areas of the 600 will be gone forever. I’m happy I got as far as I did but it’ll always be a mystery as to how far that drift went. Also, I never did find the area where the miners accessed all the stopes above the chutes. I’m guessing it must have been behind one of the areas that collapsed.
Now this is some hard work to give the viewers what they love to watch especially putting your life on the line to explore some mines that 85% of the public including myself who would never dare to down to explore thanks for what you do to gives us the opportunity to see and learn about the mines

I'm new to your channel, but I gotta say, you deserve way more subscribers. Literally risking your life to explore real historical ruins is a lot cooler, and more badass, than watching people play video games of exploring ruins.
Was that a Tommy Knocker or an old miner's ghost knocking there at the end? Great video, thanks for the adventure.
“Gly”: That was Randy banging on the compressor pipe from the 400 level. Our communications failed so we communicated to each other by banging on the pipe in Morse Code.

Thanks Jeff, you know it all,,,Kidding buddy...SO COMON, LETS GO!!!
“Gly”: Thanks Jeff! Ya know... the funny thing was I never did find access into those stopes from the 600. The laddered access must have been behind one of those collapsed areas and the stopes must have been massive. The noise you heard was Randy banging on the compressor pipe after our communications failed. I think he was attempting a version of Morse code... he would tap “shave and a haircut”... and I would tap “2 bits”. Lol. Yep, ya gotta watch out for those Tommy Knockers banging on tree stumps with hammers. That sound tends to make its way into those drifts via tree roots. Lol

Incredible, is there anything more directly dicing with death on TH-cam? Gly, you walk the finest line.
Now this is a real exploration I understand they can't all be on this level but lately your videos are lacking to say the least your older stuff is what I fell in love with please go back to these type of experience!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
“Gly”: Yeah, Bob blowing his engine last July really threw a monkey wrench into the works hindering the channel allot but little by little I’m getting things back on track. Mines like this are ultra dangerous and that’s why I don’t do these very often. I will only expose myself to this level of danger if I know for certain that there’ll be something worth risking my life for in the bottom.
"This looks more sketchy in the way back"
Yes I can say! You are very brave man
I like your videos
I just found your channel again
Your brave to go into those places
It’s nice to watch in complete safety
14:20 lol who crawled all the way down there with pringles and a coors?!
Dude, You are Awesome and I appreciate you taking the time to go down the mine. That made my morning. THANKS
Looks like the miners enjoyed their jobs down in that mine back between 1935-1960 based on most dates posted
No way would I have gone down the ladder. Even more so with a camera in one hand. True exploration and thrilling to watch. Glad you made it safely back.
