I love your videos I just lost my shu shi Paris, she lived to the age of 22 years old which was such a blessing, we miss her so much. We have another shi shu his name is oreo like the cookie because of his color black and white he`s 21 years old we have truly been bless to have had them this long only blessings , from god! We bought another shi shu her name is daisy we call her crazy daisy lol she`s such a bleesing to our family and a bleesing for our dog oreo he`s so happy to know he has a friend he can count on.
My greatest inheritance from my late mother is Josie, a Shih-Tzu/Bichon Frisee cross. I was handyman/ caretaker living with my mom when she got Josie at 10 weeks. She will be 3, on April 28 3923. So we have been together all her life.
Her sleep patterns have steadily evolved since we moved back to my apartment, Jan 1, 2022. She now frequently sleeps next to or under the bed at bedtime. But when I wake in the morning she is ALWAYS beside me or in her pink "princess" bed which I keep on my bed.
I already knew I was allergic to hair/fur, pollen, mold, dust. But I have years ago become desensitized to fig or cat hair
Outside of Josie, and a cat, decades ago, I have always slept alone. So no problemo there.
I do hear Josie sometimes barking in her sleep. It is more of a yip ... yip, not loud enough to wake me if I am asleep.
She sometimes wakes me to ask to go out for a potty or poop break. Kinda annoying between 4 and 6 am, but at least she is finally house broken. (Seen many Shih-Tzu videos, they all agree that Shih-Tzu are stubborn and hard to house break)
All in all, it is pure joy to wake in the morning and find my "darling doggie" Josie in bed with me.

I have had my AKC Shih Tzu, Teddy, since he was a puppy and he is now 16 1/2! He is my third Shih Tzu. My first, Tiffany, I had since I was 21. She had 1 litter of 4 fluff balls! We kept her daughter, Angel. Tiffany lived for over 16 years! Her daughter didn’t live more than a year after Tiffany as she died due to congestive heart failure and I believe a broken heart as she had spent her whole life with her mom!!!❤ I also had an imperial (tiny) Shih Tzu, Gia. She died at age 8 a few days after the vet gave her the annual vacillations. She had an enlarged heart. I now am afraid of vaccinations for my fur babies!!
I feel the same way for my Shih Tzu, he was diagnosed in 2020 with a heart murmur and I now worry tremendously about all vaccines. Good Luck to you & your Fur Babies!!
@marilynprovino: We lost my mom's first Shih-Tzu cross, Tori, at 7 years. She had a blown out heart valve and an enlarged heart.
She started having what appeared to be seizures after running. She was fine walking but after just running the length of the living room and back, fetching a toy, her back legs would collapse and she looked like she was having an epileptic fit.
A friend of my mom knew of a dog who had a similar problem and said it had been heart related.
Our vet found that during these episodes Tori had no femoral pulse in either back leg. The bad valve prevented her heart from supplying enough blood flow for vigorous activity.
My mom asked for a prognosis. The vet said, "Well, she could go another year, or drop dead next week" Tori was only 5.
I was recovering from hypo-thyroidism so I had started a walking program to rebuild after 6 weeks in bed. Since Tori was fine walking, I began taking her along. Every day we walked a couple 3 miles. Tori was my walking partner for 2 years before she was obviously failing. When we finally took her to the vet to let her go, the vet said when she gave us the diagnosis, of a year or next week she thought Tori only had a few months. She couldn't believe Tori made it over 2 more years. She credited my walking her for allowing Tori,(and us) to have another 2 years.

My Shih Tzu passed away just 2 days ago at only 3 years of age. We are shattered and heartbroken. Now I am looking at videos of other dogs that look like her. I miss her so much. I have never felt so lonely and sad. There is nobody to greet us at the door. Nobody to wag her tail and take naps with us. I don't know if I could ever get another dog again. She had kidney failure and possibly cancer. We spent over 8k to save her but there was no hope and we had to put her to sleep. I would have spent all my money to save my baby. May God give us peace during this difficult time 😭😭🙏🏻

11. Never call them a "shit tzu." When I was a kid our family a piano tuner asked if our shih tzu was "one of them shit tzus?" She screwed up her face and glared at the man with a look that could kill.

Add don’t use a neck collar, use a harness. Their necks can be easily broken with using only a neck collar!

100% agree. No neck collar! Get a harness which does not pull on their neck. Also no walks in the heat, even moderate heat, they are very sensitive to heat.

Mine is a climber...was remodeling the house and one day the pup climbed the ladder up into the attic with me..then climbed down again..and up.. started taking him out hiking and doing simple rock/slope climbs..he loves it. Now I have a ladder with a safety net and soft mat below so he/we can do this together each day. On long hikes he gets tired and I carry him some like a baby..very big personality in a small package..just remember...very delicate tiny puppy, even when they try to show off, you need to protect them from their adventurous nature

We got our dog in Jan a friend passed away his wife couldn’t care from him. We became 3rd owners. Well other 2 owners were male so ours took up with my husband. He whines for him when he’s not around. Even when my husband goes to bathroom it’s cute. My husband never wanted a dog now that dog gets more love and attention than I do.

We had two Shih-tzu. They passed away at the age of 1 at the age of 16). Or second passed away at the age of 12. They were not brothers. Or came from the same family. They had gum disease even though we brushed their teeth. Both dogs eventually had to have all their teeth removed. We believe that because of the teeth extractions that this caused further health problems, which caused their death. Our second dog, a shih-tzu, we discovered his teeth were growing inside of his gums. Which is why they had to be removed. He died in our arms. It was a terrible loss to us. Losing both dogs in one year was devastating.

My shitzu doesn’t mind the cold at all. Although I still put a jacket on him when it really cold, 20 degrees or below. He doesn’t tolerate the heat well at all though.

I have yelled at my Shi but not physical harm. But I know not to I work on that! All the info was great! I love to give my Shi scraps but very small amount, try to not do that so much. Thanks again! Oh, I have left my Shi for 3 hours but surround him with toys food water and treat toys in master bedroom. He has learned I do come back. Maybe cover on that more.

All you have to do is take them outside every 2 hours until they learn. I potty trained my by the time he was 14 weeks old. Consistency and use a timer.

Some people think I am crazy, but I talk to my shih tzu just as I did my wonderful daughter! A few minutes before going outside to potty I ask her if she needs to pp or poo! By the time I have leashed her and we are ready to go out I mention her business again! When we get outside she knows exactly why she is out there! My sister kid me and asks if she poos on demand? I usually say yes, cause she knows what she supposed to do! Talk to your dogs, they understand much more than we give them credit for! I always praise her and sometimes give her a treat when we come back in! Love my Scarlett!

I have 2 shitzus a 1yr old Boy Ryder and a 5 month old girl Sky. They are both very good babies and have a lot of personality, Energy and is very smart to. I’m not sure why they have a problem with Potty training which my Ryder is potty trained and my puppy is potty trained to a certain extent Now Ryder is pissing in the house and Sky what tricks are out there for me to use to get my puppies to where I can leave them out with no worries and not worry about them being Bad and pissing in my house right in front of use like they don’t care.

*Thanks for your video. It was on time. I have a 6 year old shih tzu. I work, and he has to stay inside the house. Now, all of a sudden, he's chewing around the bedroom doors trying to get in, he jumped in my bed and urinated. Suddenly, he is destroying my inside doors. 🚪 I had to leave him in his kennel today, until I can think of something else. He never done this before. He used to be looking out the window when I get home from work. I will miss that today.😢*
Perhaps a crate is a great solution. It saves you money and at the kennel they're usually left in a kennel most of the time (unlike day care which is more about socialization). You coukd also consider daycare and taking your dog there from time to time. Nice walks would also go a long way.

Don’t forget to give them bones ( that are safe) or really good dog chews that are not raw Hyde. That will keep your dog busy and away from chewing other things
