Permethrin - Diluting and Treating Clothing

  • There are many opinions on whether to treat clothing with permethrin and how to do it. This short video shows one way to do it. Some feel using the chemical is not healthy, and some people apply it differently. I personally feel the risk of disease from ticks is higher than the potential risks of the chemical. Again, this is just one way to do it.

    You don't have to dip or saturate clothing, it's just wasting product. It only takes contact with a few molecules to work. Spray until the surface appears damp. Mark the date on the calendar and respray in 4 weeks although it should cling to fabric and footwear for 42 days or up to 6 gentle hand washings. It won't last longer if you soak clothing. It won't work on our skin as the skin oil will neutralize it in 20 minutes. Store clothing out of sunlight.
    Don't spray if pollinators are present. Don't get the wet spray on the cat, it's toxic to their nervous system.
    Just wearing treated footwear and socks pulled up over trouser legs will reduce tick bite by 73.6%

      @TheMagachekk 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is completely inaccurate. Wearing treated footwear and pulling up your socks over your trouser legs will only reduce tick bites by 72.9%.

      Ticks can Crawl on the ground, but more likelly climb brush, Females lay eggs on low/and high brush. Anything that passes and touches the brush, Including your head, Ticks will cling onto. Upper leg,waist,arms and head,

    Permethrin is actually minimally interacting with mammilian biology.
    Get the Sawyers from Tractor Supply or probably any that is made for use with livestock and dilute to the 0.5% level. You could go higher to 1% without much issue, and it will cause ticks to really, really get away from you. However some people might be a bit more sensitive to it, skin irritation etc, so sticking with 0.5% is going to be more economical and probably work just fine.

    1* Love those shoes!
    2* I do the same thing but I also treat my hammock. I don't treat my long underwear myself, I have definitely woken up in my hammock with dead ticks all over like someone threw in a bag of raisins when I wasn't looking. That was at the first campsite of the sht. Northern one

      Hammock tents ftw! Never sleeping on the ground again, it's for peasants. Good idea about treating it. Last time I hiked, I woke up to see a bunch of ticks crawling on the netting, looking for me.

    Permethrin is neutralized by sunlight, so the inside of your clothes will last longer that the outside exposed to sunlight. When drying your clothes or boots don't set them out in the sun to dry!~

    Also, Permethrin will make cats sick and can be fatal. Don't use it wet near cats or wear treated clothing in a home with cats.

    Love the shoes too! Small point, but even though it looks like you are saturating the clothing, natural fibers take "time" to completely absorb a liquid. I would slow the process down and give the fibers a chance to expand, especially wool which is naturally resistant to moisture although probably you did not do any wool items. This is not something you would be able to see, sort of like washing clothes with stain remover, the water/soap/stain remover combo works better as it soaks for an hour and spends more time on the fabric rather than just adding to a wash load. Massaging the garments like you do helps as well, then just let them sit for a few minutes. There is probably enough solution on them while they are air drying but just a thought. Get some better gloves, longer cuffs.

      Yes, its commonly used on canines. Cats, no.
      Just do a google search, normal dog dips are made at 0.6% solution for bad flea/tick, while 0.06% is commonly used as a spray.

    2:53 It looks like you used the wrong opening to pour out the Permethrin and way more than 3oz was used. Was that deliberate?
    Edit: Maybe you didn't want to squeeze 1oz 3 times and then a 4th squeeze into the measuring portion of the bottle and just opted to eyeball the ~3oz?

    • @boots7859
      @boots7859 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same. Although being over 50% just means he was at 0.075% vs 0.05. At the low doses there isn't much harm going to happen, unless possibly if you have really sensitive skin.
