  • Sawyer Permethrin Insect Repellent Treatment is an insect repellent similar to the natural pyrethrins produced by the flowers of pyrethrums (like Chrysanthemum flowers) and can be applied to clothing, gear, and fabric for long lasting protection.
    The more Permethrin treated fabric surface area you have near you, the more protected you will be from mosquitoes and ticks.
    This fabric insect repellent can be used to treat clothing, footwear, workwear, bibs, canvas, work stations, seat covers, animal beds, hammocks, chairs, tents, and other fabrics.

    I use the concentrate. The bottle I have is more than 5 years old. It's been out in the garage in all Canadian temperatures. It's still perfectly good and potent. I squirt a spoonful on my hands and rub it into the fur around my dog's neck, ears, chest and etc. No need to do the whole dog. No need to soak the dog. In Canada you can only buy the 'premixed' . Which means you're buy a litre of water and spoonful of permethrin. Go south of the border when you can. Canada is so hopeless.

    What should I wear while applying permethrin to clothing? Because of all the warnings on the label (such as no skin exposure), I cover myself from head to toe, gloves and a mask so there is no exposed skin while applying. This video says it's harmless on skin, so am I being overly cautious? Should I at least wear a mask so I don't inhale any of it? Also do i actually need to wash off any exposure to skin or is it unnecessary because the permethrin deactivates?

  • @hortonwonderblat6994
    @hortonwonderblat6994 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This video directly contradicts the label directions, which state that skin contact requires treatment and a call to poison control center. It says "Do not spray directly on or otherwise allow to contact skin, face, or eyes". The label also says "It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.." Why is a corporate video talking about how harmless the product is in contradiction to the label? All reports are that it is an effective product - when used per directions. It isn't necessary to misdirect consumers to get sales.

    • @mr.c.2837
      @mr.c.2837 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! When the treated clothes are dried, the pesticide stays on the clothes, which then touch bare skins. These days, Ads are done by marketing people who may know nothing about their products; they just read off scripts. Need the developers/scientists to give the facts, not a sales pitch!

    • @aleisterbroley900
      @aleisterbroley900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Maybe... Just MAYBE... The label is talking about not allowing the liquid form to contact the skin.

    DON'T USE ON TENTS!!! Permethrin is great stuff. I use it on cloths and bedding. It's a very healthy practice because it seriously reduces risk of Lyme disease, West Nile, and malaria in high risk areas without DEET. The reason not to use it on tents is permethrin is not really a repellent, it is an insecticide. If you use a light source inside a tent you will draw all sorts of insect species to the tent exterior, potentially killing them if the tent has been treated. Do you really want to be responsible for killing endangered insect species like the luna moth? Another thing: Before it dries, it's LETHAL to cat's (organ failure). It's safe after it dries.

Vegans kill animals too, because growing anything in fields results in death of animals from farm machinery. Can we breath yet? Co2 is causing green house, maybe we should hold our breath. But i get the point, turn off the tent light when finished and don’t attract hapless little fluttering insects to their doom. I grew up in the 70’s when people tossed cans out the car window. Something liberating about that. Good times

    I noticed it says on my bottle that Sawyer permethrin has a special active ingredient that allows it to bind to clothing. The only thing listed by law in the active ingredients is the permethrin. I am taking it that the permethrin is actually the binding ingredient and not anything else since it is the only active in this solution. Also does this contain distillates like some of the permethrin solutions have in them?

    • @aleisterbroley900
      @aleisterbroley900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "active ingredient" in a product is the ingredient which does the thing that the product is used for. The binders wouldn't be listed as an active ingredient, as they're not what kills and repels insects. Ya see?

      We apologize for any confusion. The verbiage on our packaging is based on the original marketing claims given to us by the EPA. When the testing was first done with the permethrin, they did not include hats in the testing protocol. We fully endorse the treatment of hats. Like any clothing or gear, we would simply recommend letting everything fully dry before use to maximize the insect repellent's effectiveness and longevity. Once the treatment has fully dried and bonded, the Permethrin only degrades via UV exposure or the heavy agitation of a washing machine.

      we've been in the application process far longer than we expected! We currently sell it to the Canadian Military and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but we have still not been approved for consumer sales.

    Is it safe to use around dogs and cats?

    • @SawyerProducts
      @SawyerProducts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the treatment has dried it is perfectly safe to use and wear permethrin treated clothing and gear around cats but keep cats away during the application process. However you can apply permethrin directly to dogs for protection from ticks for 6 weeks. Learn more at www.sawyer.com/dogs

      Definitely not around cats when spraying.

    • @jessicah3450
      @jessicah3450 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is highly toxic around cats. I don't trust it dried around them either, since they lick themselves, making the active ingredient damp again if it gets on them. Only use it when they are not around.

      It will kill your cats if it’s wet.
      This is stated clearly in the video. But clearly not soon enough if viewers turn it off halfway through.

    2:50 - "your trophy"... meaning a living animal living in the woods who didn't want to die?

    • @actiondisplays
      @actiondisplays ปีที่แล้ว

      No you nit-wit! ...Trophy meaning a Rabid, Man Eating Deer with two inch fangs dripping with venom! Permetherin Repellent is for the guys that go afield to protect women (if you know what that is) and children from those veracious beasts and to keep you safe from those creatures over populating, then taking over cities and infecting the innocent populace! But the real bonus comes from being able to pick off a blood thirsty Tick gorging on the vitals of one of those beasts at 200 yards! Yeah baby! Put the cross hairs of a 4x12 on the thorax of one of those miserable Tick's of which have no sense of life or death and only seek to replicate themselves and their kind, then infect more warm blooded mammals of the world! Now quickly... run out to the store and buy yourself some Bud Lite before it all goes stale and share it with your kind, then go roll around in the woods and save the Ticks! The trickle down effect will save those "living in the woods who didn't want to die" from Lyme disease, predator attack, or lead projectile poisoning! Now you know the meaning of "Trophy!" 😁

    Can I treat my hat?

    • @SawyerProducts
      @SawyerProducts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We apologize for any confusion. The verbiage on our packaging is based on the original marketing claims given to us by the EPA. When the testing was first done with the permethrin, they did not include hats in the testing protocol. We fully endorse the treatment of hats. Like any clothing or gear, we would simply recommend letting everything fully dry before use to maximize the insect repellent’s effectiveness and longevity. Once the treatment has fully dried and bonded, the Permethrin only degrades via UV exposure or the heavy agitation of a washing machine.
