What’s happening in this G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie clip?
During a summit between the leaders of the worlds at Fort Sumter, Zartan launches the American nuclear arsenal, blackmailing the politicians to do the same. He then auto-destroy them as do the rest of the leaders creating a nuclear-free world.

What’s the movie G.I. Joe: Retaliation about?
“The greatest American Heroes are back”* and they’ve been set up to take the fall for a terrible crime they didn’t commit. Now, Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), Duke (Channing Tatum) and the other G.I. Joes must once again face their mortal enemy, COBRA, as well as dangerous new threats operating within the government. When all else fails, one option remains: Retaliation. Roadblock steps up to lead a new team (including Bruce Willis) on this explosive adventure critics are calling “unlike any action movie you’ve ever seen. A thrilling ride that leaves you wanting more”**

Nuclear weapons don’t have a self destruct at all. Once fired, they are fired, and will hit their targets regardless unless shot down. This is due to the fact that installing a self destruct would allow the enemy to hack and remotely destroy the missiles themselves.
Once you push that button. It’s finished. No takebacks.

@Petes Thename lol and you know this how? The only person who has knowledge of the nuclear suit case is the current POTUS and Chairman of the joint chief of staffs. I doubt even the CIA, sec. National Homeland Security know such information. So Unless you’re Joseph R. Biden or gen. Mark A. Miley surfing TH-cam and commenting; you’re talking about of your ass.

@@teudaan knowledge of the actual nuclear devices in use by the US is far more diffuse (at the very minimum, wouldn't you agree the guys at Sandia and Pantex would know the specs of the bombs and PAL system?), and there doesn't seem to be any device capable of receiving a disarming or self-destruct signal mid-flight.
There would also need to be some self-destruct device able to disintegrate the warhead - which also appears to be missing.
Of course this is just speculation based on the limited amount of information available to the public; but there are also many reasons why it would be a *profoundly idiotic idea* to equip your nuclear missiles with a self-destruct button. For starters, how would it be activated? With the range an ICBM has, the only realistic option would be to use a radio signal - which could potentially be replicated by an opposing country during a nuclear exchange. Secondarily, the ability to undo the decision to launch nukes could make the decision to do so significantly easier. The POTUS is, at the end of the day, a civilian leader that, well advised as he may be, may react to events with a first strike. And the US has no knowledge on whether Russia or China or whatever other nuclear-capable country's nukes have a self-destruct button to undo their second strike after the US chooses to undo the first.
And aside from those considerations, it is routinely assumed by nuclear weapons and nuclear policy experts that nuclear missiles cannot be "recalled" - i.e. disarmed or destroyed mid-flight. Once they're off, they're off.

    • @petesthename1588
      @petesthename1588 2 ปีที่แล้ว +81

@@teudaan knowledge of how ICBMs work isn’t secret. All missiles work the same way. Considering standard missile technology works this way, why wouldn’t nuclear one too? Why would you put an easily exploitable weakness on your missile intended to cripple the enemy? That’s moronic.

Also it was only ICBMs/SLBMs, which are only two prongs of the nuclear triad. The third is aircraft-based nuclear bombs and missiles.
At the opening of Operation Enduring Freedom, the US flew B-2s from Missouri to Afghanistan and back in one leg missions (using aerial refuelling obviously). Dedicated bombers aside, there's also nuclear munitions for fighter jets, i.e. the B61 which can be utilized by aircraft such as the F-16, 22 and 35.

On the Chinese briefcase, the text is written in traditional Chinese, which should be simplified Chinese.
AND the button the guy pressed on it translates to "Prepare", not "Launch".
The other two, one says "Activate power"
And the middle one says "Exit"
So uh- yeah, some feedback there
