Tlou2s combat is at its best when there is constant movement, constantly changing hiding spots, taking out enemies, getting spotted, fighting before getting overwhelmed and fleeing back into hiding. The game manages to solve one of the biggest problems with stealth, sitting still and waiting for enemy patrol patterns.
Yess but in my grounded run in the shamblers part i made a route to quietly escape without getting spotted by using patterns but else it was always coinsidential
Yup, it embraces the "middle ground" of stealth, where you're not quite actively in combat, but you're also not completely unseen anymore. It's that lack of middle ground in stealth games that makes most stealth games feel very binary. TLOU2 fixed that.
Why would you do that though? What happens when you actually have to fight but you've been conditioning yourself to hide and avoid combat the whole time? Seems like a terribly inconsistent and poorly paced playthrough to me.
Grounded mode in this game is difficulty scaling done right. Instead of turning enemies into bullet sponges, the game starves you of resources, forcing you to use every tool at your disposal to survive.
@@duckbyllThey’re not too bad compared to the original Last of Us (not the remake). Grounded on that due to the lack of checkpoints was bananas, but I’d definitely recommend you try the new game (or the first game’s remake). I think you could beat it if you beat hard.
I also loved the small differences between Ellie and Abby. For stealth against clickers, Ellie can always stealth kill them, but it's slow and she can't make shivs, and with Abby you have to make shivs but unlike Ellie, with those shivs you kill clickers a lot quicker. With one side of the game you have to be more patient and aware, and for the other side you can aggressively scurry around insta killing clickers but you need good resource management.
the small differences are amazing! It's interesting that Ellie takes longer to kill with here knife than Abby with her shives because I think Ellie it more proficient with it though. I guess its just so its more balanced.
Just like a goth teen the stealth in The Last of Us isn't a phase. There's no alert phase that you have to wait out once you're spotted, you simply need to break sight for about 10 yards and enemies will lose you enough for you to re-enter stealth. This makes the stealth super malleable, because you can jump in and out of it with such ease, which in turn eases off the fear and panic of breaking stealth and feeling helpless, like is the case in most stealth games. I initially wasn't too sure about adding the stealth grass and the silencers for the sequel. Stealth grass in most every game grants complete invisibility, and I felt the bow was enough of a stealth weapon in the first game. But the sequel handles this expertly. Enemies will spot you at a certain distance in the grass, so even when hiding you need to be on your toes. And silencers require similar items as health kits, molotovs, and bombs; equally important tools. So do I want a silencer for the next area to quietly deal with the WLF, or do I want to save my supplies for trip mines for those damn dogs trying to sniff me out - Decision decisions.
What an amazing opener, “just like a goth teen […] isnt a phase.” The resource dependent gameplay is out of this world, i love the fact you constantly have to think about what you have and if you have enough to survive the next encounter. And the fact that your gadgets can use the same resources as your health is chefs kiss.
Funny how the most overlooked aspect of the game is the gameplay. The way the combat and stealth feel is enough to earn this game an easy 8/10 if you’re inclined to be harsh. If we’re being honest this is some of the most fluid, responsive, and satisfying gameplay I’ve ever experienced.
@@sarxastic replaced the core of the story with literally nothing, out of all the new side characters only two at most were any interesting, Ellie has none of the character that made her engaging in the first place, Abby’s character arc was shot in the foot and left to rot somewhere, there’s not a single satisfying conclusion anywhere in the game good or otherwise. It starts and stops being interesting with Joel’s death then kinda meanders for the rest of the time
Eh I agree I love tlou but wish they could be a bit more smart. Like noticing obvious trip mine placement. I also don't get how the enemies with weapons with infinite ammo to shoot at you but once you kill then in grounded they suddenly have no bullets. I would love to the see the next last of us game see Ellie use every strategy and crutch to get out in tense situations. Throwing dirt in enemies faces, peeking tiny cracks in a wall, hiding in cupboards, and shooting through them. Even destructive environments and a more sense of vertical parkour. Imagine a game where Ellie climbs around reaching high ground setting traps and picking them off. Or what if she makes a makeshift gillie suit. Metal gear solid 5 is amazing for stealth and very clever also. If you shoot then in the head a lot the other enemie soldier notify then and start wearing helmets. So cool! Would love to see more of that in tlou since the gritty gameplay is fun exciting to me!

. i don’t know what it is for me. the ai and stealth going hand in hand, the seamless brutal animations, or the great gun-play, But TLOU2 has the most addictive game formula i’ve played since its came out. And ever since the remaster came out with that ‘no return’ it’s been sooo much more fun. Sure it’s not that drastically different from the first but it most definitely feels a lot better. Naughtydog reaally stepped up the set pieces that made every mechanic feel great
Its surprising how little the differences are in the combat of Part 1 to Part 2 but the little differences make the game play move so much more fluidly. It feels as if you can shoot faster and get to your weapons more quicker, the gameplay is just much more satisfying
This just popped up in my recommended! TH-cam finally doing something right with these recommendations lately. Great video! The Last of Us Part 2 is literally my favorite game rn
Thank you for making this video! The Last of Us Part 2 is mostly talked about for its story which is controversial (I love it) and the gameplay is talked second. The combat and stealth is what makes this game my favorite game ever! The balance between slow and fast parts was made perfectly, and I’d say the Santa Barbara section has the most intense set piece where ppl are trying to get different angles on you while you just stomp through them, avoiding bullets, seeking cover, getting the jump on them, moving fast through doors and pulling out a melee weapon on them.. it’s a tough scene but so much fun. 🙌🌿
Youre so right. Especially santa Barbara, i have to replay it a couple time each time i play it because i find myself dying a lot. The game is so much fun either way though
Awesome video dude! I agree that (story elements aside...) The Last of Us Part II is one of the highest quality games EVER MADE. You make some excellent points, especially about how the game gives you the tools but it's up to you to decide how to use them. If I could, though, could I give one teeny suggestion? The music throughout most of your video is a little too loud and makes it hard to year your voice sometimes. A good rule of thumb is to keep your background music roughly 10 dB lower than your voice track. Awesome video though man! I'd definitely love to hear you talk more about The Last of Us!

Been shouting this on top of my lungs, story aside, the stealth in this game is truly *fantastic* The movement is super smooth, flexible and fast, Ellie can do almost every move you’d want her to, proning adds so much. The gadget cross is perfect, a silenced pistol is so fun to use for long range headshots, arrows for close range kills & the explosive ones to finish off a stealth run stylishly. The distractions work great, smoke bombs, trap bombs feel great to have for creativity. AI, as you’ve mentioned is excellent, they’re truly human, the way they walk, look back, stop and converse is great. An extra is the intense heart pounding music, it truly adds to the immersion as your constantly moving away from the dog nearby or the enemy patrol nearing your location.
You use arrows for close range and silenced pistol from a far? I find them both to be versatile, but i mainly use the bow for mid range and long range and the pistol for close up encounters.
@@fooby0 I use arrows for close to mid range and pistol for far as there’s no drop off, it’s a guaranteed kill if your aim is good, however arrows have a drop off & it’s easier to use in closer range

I've played Part 2 many times and I've just started sneaking by combat where I can and it's pretty satisfying. In my first Grounded playthrough, in the Rattler base at the end, I unleashed the chained Clickers and they ended up killing pretty much everyone and I could just go through, hahaha
omg playing the game like that is so much fun. It's espcially fun during the rattler base section, hopefully we get to use clickers like that again in the future.
This made me wish i have part 2 honestly. I really love your opinions, you said everything I also loved about The Last of Us stealth. And i noticed you changed your thumbnail
I love your pfp! (P5R is my second fav game) Hopefully soon you could have Part 2 🙌🙌 I have ran a thumbnail A/B tester and for 2 weeks it was showing people different thumbnails. The one it is now is the thumbnail that got people to click the most!
I absolutely love the combat in this game bc its fun and non-repetitive depending on the styles you want. I also like setting traps on the ncps and having a certain area trapped up. Im personally trying to get better at the bow now that i have it fully upgraded in ellies part.
Lmao I woulda gone pro in Factions 2 also! You didn't mention how awesome it is to be in big set piece environments where you're encountering a large group of enemies and you can break stealth for a couple kills only to fall back into the shadows and reposition. I'm thinking the parking garage in Seattle day 2 with Ellie, or the top of the high-rise with Abbie & Lev vs the seraphites. There's so much verticality and space to slip around after being caught only to re-enter stealth. Any map you can dive into bushes works, too. This aspect for me is what especially makes the game very rewarding for stealth. It isn't binary, you can come in and out of stealth as you wish
Factions 2 was such a devastating loss. I enjoy how to describe the setting of the game. I did fail to mention it, but hopefully I am able to talk about it in a future video.
I never realised how good the gameplay is until my second playthrough. I focused so much on the story in the first playthrough that I completely forget about everything else
permadeath tlou2 was the first time in a very long while i was actually having fun and invested in playing a video game. stealth is alot more engaging when theres actual consequences to fucking up and getting caught besides resetting the checkpoint and trying again
YOU: The last of us part 2 is my favourite game ME: I love you Ok but seriously, I love the stealth in TLOU2. I tend to gravitate toward stealth and ranged moves because I'm kind of a wimp, and it's so so fun in this.
We all have movie level moments when playing Tlou2. You can also adjust difficulty in parts. For me I like the enemies ai to be hard but looting difficulty moderate lol.
Hope we get the same stealth in The Last of Us Part 3. As well as the visual brutality and combat. Elle and especially Tommy killed so many WLF which showed how dark the game is.
@@fooby0 Naughty Dog are going to one up themselves again. I'm expecting tlou3 to conclude Ellies story, the fireflies and Abby. Unless they somehow find a way to go further. We need a prequal game with Joel and Tommy surviving post outbreak. Just after Sarah's death and Tommy joining the fireflies.
Im from tbe bricked up gang solely because i remember doing a grounded run to finish my 100% completion and the brick could KILL the enemies faster than joel punching them. And i used to kill clickers with it when i didnt had a knife
One of my favorite things in the last of us 2 is being completely stealthy and watching the groups fall and become more scared. Wondering if it’s a group of scars. Calling to each other.
Thats something that makes tlou2 feel so unique. Especially in Ellie’s pov, the groups mostly have no idea who the hell is wiping out their numbers and its really satisfying
Dude it‘s a whole nother whay to play, like a different game, I‘m not joking. Yes, the difficulty is intimidating and even overwhelming at first but your skills improve. Not being able to use listen mode or hearing that sound when enemies are about to discover you makes you ACTUALLY use your stealth skills and forces you to be creative. I have over 600 hours in part 2 and i would say that 400 or more of those i was playing on grounded. I really recommend it, it‘s how you become a master at the game
excellent video. A few pointers i will like to give as a content creator, recording gameplay you should turn of vsync so ur visuals won't split in half, and invest in a quality game capture keep creating!
Imagine Factions being like this. Man that would be so cool. Like imagine if they were to cancel a new factions multiplayer! That would be so unfortunate.
In TLOU 1 you can actually grab a brick and only a brick and bash any enemy's head in besides a bloated obv, and yes even clickers, it has been my favorite way to kill clickers in TLOU 1 and one of my favorites, but my number 1 favorite skill to use if in TLOU 2 if you grab a stunned zombie you can actually make that clicker eat the zombie and god is it satisfying to pull that off
THIS HAS BEEN WHAT IM SAYIN!! Even if you didn't like the story (I loved it) I just do not understand how anyone could have dogged on the gameplay. It took a great base from the first game, and just like improved it ten fold and gave me one of the arguably best shooter gameplays in gaming like they dont get this game like i do!!!
Honestly i used to be a hater for LOU2 as i adored LOU1 and felt it was lacking, that it was depressing and overall so hard to play... Then i almost lost my mother and father in a car accident, they are okay thankgod but even though i have always known death and suffering it was like it finally clicked. I finally understood the games premise. Its one of my favourite games of all time now. :)
The one problem with the last of us part 2 stealth is ellie will just say, "I think that's the last of them," so u don't have that worry that there still more
proud to say i beat it on grounded permadeath, was it hell? yes, did i rage? yes, did i want to give up, not rlly but i did get super frustrated, was it worth it? yes
I dont necessarily think last of us 2 reinvents the wheel mechanically, but the level design and animations are what shines for me. MGSV is the best stealth game of all time imo
@@latecore_ while I do agree that MGSV has a wider range of awesome and the whole roleplaying as a leader of a Merc army aspect of it is REALLY immersive... I do think that the enemy AI is a bit too... Simple? Also: while the player can play the game however they like, I always felt pressured to play in a very narrow way on account of the game's ranking system I have nearly 100hrs in that game, too. It is very well made.
Nope. Stealth in MGSV is tediously repetitive. Every outpost can be tackled in basically the same way. Each enemy supposedly has different rankings of each skill, but they all perform exactly the same. Exactly. The. Same. The only time you'll notice _any_ difference is if you choose to play _as_ them. And the grind... ye gods! To get that 4th FOB you'll need hundreds of hours repeating the same FOB infiltrations just to earn sufficient resources. Kojima has no respect for his fans' lives.
You wanna make the stealth gameplay really fun? In my opinion you should try turning on awareness indicators. You can use them to lure enemies because they will turn white (the awareness indicator, not the enemy lol) and flash for a half second before turning red and you can duck and instead of being fully alerted they will just investigate. Complicating it even more, if they are close enough to a fellow soldier they will "cc" them to come with them and investigate together. Makes things tricky trying to lure just one. It changed the game for me and how I play it. Sometimes the enemies are way too close together, and this allows you to separate one from the pack and pick them off one by one. Also put on persistent center dot and you can put the dot on someone when you are behind cover and snap up and headshot them already knowing where the dot is going to be. And by dot I mean also set reticle to "simple" Combat accessibility is also great for going invisible while prone for crawling around during practice and actually seeing exactly where enemies patrol without alerting them. Its pretty cheap and op during actual gameplay but for planning for a permadeath run it's priceless. I love the many options and ways to approach combat in this game. It's pretty much my favorite game too. I can't wait for this on pc. I can't aim for nothing on controller 😂

What makes TLOU2 even better is that you can just avoid most combat completely.

Thank you and good luck on your challenge!
If you didnt realize how good the gameplay was then it probably did a good job then.
Ok. I hear you. Counter argument, they literally have a setting that makes you invisible when you go prone.
It was funny
And only for new game plus
This is peak but holy, that lag when you were talking about TLOU1
yeah my bad about that, I was playing TLOU Remake on my pc and it could NOT handle that well.
No worries
I love the sly cooper clip at the beginning of the video
I knew people would appreciate it
The last of Us part 2 probably has the most advanced AI in combat and while in stealth.
Absolutely
permadeath tlou2 was the first time in a very long while i was actually having fun and invested in playing a video game. stealth is alot more engaging when theres actual consequences to fucking up and getting caught besides resetting the checkpoint and trying again
I would be too scared to play permadeath 😭😭
@@fooby0 I did it on by chapter but it was still more than enough to get the blood pumping
I see a fellow TLOU2 enjoyer I subscribe 😤
YESSIRR. We love tlou2 around here
@@fooby0 my kind of neighbourhood
Made me want to replay the game, great video
Yess, you should go for it dude
GREAT VIDEO BRO!
THANK YOU!
0:49 Hello?? Based Department??
ITS THE GOATED GAME NO ONE CAN TOP IT.
A mixture of going loud and then some stealth is my favourite ngl best AI I’ve had in game and it’s always installed 😂 no game has come close yet
You're so right, this game is so in it's own league. I always have it installed so I can replay it
YOU: The last of us part 2 is my favourite game
ME: I love you
Ok but seriously, I love the stealth in TLOU2. I tend to gravitate toward stealth and ranged moves because I'm kind of a wimp, and it's so so fun in this.
WE LOVE THE LAST OF US PART 2 AROUND HERE!!!
Stealth makes the game so much fun, and especially helps people who don't like a lot of pressure on them.

(I should probably consult with my doctor about this)
Gameplay easily goes to Part 2 for sure. Likewise, story easily goes to Part 1 though.
Agree to disagree, i like both Part 1 and 2’s story so much and i cant put one over the other.
@@fooby0 i feel part 2 lacked the depth and nuance of the first game. everything's pretty cut and dry in Part 2.

We all have movie level moments when playing Tlou2. You can also adjust difficulty in parts. For me I like the enemies ai to be hard but looting difficulty moderate lol.
I never tried messing with the difficulty, i play on hard and never really tried changing the settings
2:50 damn bro's just describing Ubisoft games
Tlou2 is goated fr
youre so right, fr fr.
All the things you described, Metal Gear Solid 3 did them like 2 decades ago
Nuh uh
Hope we get the same stealth in The Last of Us Part 3. As well as the visual brutality and combat. Elle and especially Tommy killed so many WLF which showed how dark the game is.
I am very excited for tlou3 because i just know the stealth and overall gameplay will be BETTER.
That plant makes the whole room Complete
Im glad someone thinks so
9:07 bruh is that the tony hawk gba ost lmaoo. Crazy nostalgia
Yuupp blast from the past
You forgot to mention how you can turn the combat back into a stealth situation if you mess up
Im from tbe bricked up gang solely because i remember doing a grounded run to finish my 100% completion and the brick could KILL the enemies faster than joel punching them. And i used to kill clickers with it when i didnt had a knife

already love u for having tlou as ur fav game. and pls try to make better quality for your vids. still love the vid tho
Idk how to work on the quality ngl, but i will work on it!!
Loved your edit style and script, hope to see more
Thank you! Will do!
BUTTERFLY KISS USAGE???? Speaking of favorite games of all time I know P5R is in the mix for me in that
You have good taste my friend! I love P5R and Tlou2 so much. Top 2 games !
It terrified me when I was just yanked outta the bed
Exactly, it feels like youre immersion in the game was sucking you in
The best way to experience the greatness of tlou2‘s stealth is grounded
I still need to do that…
Dude it‘s a whole nother whay to play, like a different game, I‘m not joking. I really recommend it, it‘s how you become a master at the game
i honestly enjoyed part 2 more than part 1 in pretty much every way
Honestly, completely fair. I still love both, but i think i like 2 a bit more.
excellent video. A few pointers i will like to give as a content creator, recording gameplay you should turn of vsync so ur visuals won't split in half, and invest in a quality game capture
keep creating!
Thanks for the heads up! I will be doing that, thank you.
I recently sold my PS5 as I don’t play it enough but Last of Us 2 is one that I’ll miss. Hope they eventually do a good port to PC.
We better get that port this year ngl.
You should try metal gear solid V it’s basically where the game got all its ideas for the stealth
It seems like i do need to try it out
Imagine Factions being like this. Man that would be so cool. Like imagine if they were to cancel a new factions multiplayer! That would be so unfortunate.
It would've been so good. I'll always miss what we are missing out on.
The last of us 2 story is amazing i wish people took time to look at it instead of getting mad
Exactly, i appreciate the people that at least gave it a try even if they didnt like it.
brick gang here
ayyyeeee
People who think TLOU 2 is bad are dumb.
YEEESSSS
The Tony hawk special trick sound underrated sound effect keep up the good work
Thank you!!
Me personally, i always had a brick, especially when i played tlou 1 remastered for ps4 because theu were OP for killing clickers.
Oh yeah, they were the perfect solution for those clickers
In TLOU 1 you can actually grab a brick and only a brick and bash any enemy's head in besides a bloated obv, and yes even clickers, it has been my favorite way to kill clickers in TLOU 1 and one of my favorites, but my number 1 favorite skill to use if in TLOU 2 if you grab a stunned zombie you can actually make that clicker eat the zombie and god is it satisfying to pull that off
I forgot to mention that, but It will be mentioned in my next video!
You forgot that in last of us 1 the brick is the best clicker killing tool as a meele weapon
I think i may have a whole video talking about the last of us combat
The thing I love most about the last of us 2 is that I’ve never played it 😀
Interesting Choice!
I think people were too blinded by the story to recognize how amazing the game was. Really upsetting
100% agree the gameplay of the game especially as ellie is PEAK
YES! ITS SO PEAK!!
You can also brick/bottle bludgeon
I'll mention it in another video!
6:52 actually ☝️🤓 those are ferns

Beat it once on ps4 few years back and I loved it, hope that it will come to pc once season 2 comes out
HOPEFULLY ITS ON PC SOONER THAN THAT!!
great video bro
Appreciate it, ty.
I’m so sorry that happened, and im glad that they are okay! Its interesting how much our personal experiences can affect the way we see media.
The one problem with the last of us part 2 stealth is ellie will just say, "I think that's the last of them," so u don't have that worry that there still more
I actually really like that! The game isnt wasting your time with wondering about enemies that arent even there
Very good video, i have subscribed. I think the music was too loud in places.
@@nonuvurbeeznus795 alright i’ll work on it thank you!
proud to say i beat it on grounded permadeath, was it hell? yes, did i rage? yes, did i want to give up, not rlly but i did get super frustrated, was it worth it? yes
DAAMNNN bravo dude!!
And the difficulty, it still has them half-assed
What do you mean?
@@fooby0 They look for you and then go back to what they were doing on every difficulty from what I remember
@@fooby0 They still do "what was that?" and then walk away
I dont necessarily think last of us 2 reinvents the wheel mechanically, but the level design and animations are what shines for me. MGSV is the best stealth game of all time imo
It definitely does not reinvent the wheel, but its a pretty good wheel
@@latecore_ while I do agree that MGSV has a wider range of awesome and the whole roleplaying as a leader of a Merc army aspect of it is REALLY immersive... I do think that the enemy AI is a bit too... Simple?
Also: while the player can play the game however they like, I always felt pressured to play in a very narrow way on account of the game's ranking system
I have nearly 100hrs in that game, too.
Kojima has no respect for his fans' lives.
is there other games with such great combat mechanics? i genuinely wanna know
@@cavalierwiththetruthI think the open world is really what ruins the stealth a bit.
And by dot I mean also set reticle to "simple"
Combat accessibility is also great for going invisible while prone for crawling around during practice and actually seeing exactly where enemies patrol without alerting them. Its pretty cheap and op during actual gameplay but for planning for a permadeath run it's priceless. I love the many options and ways to approach combat in this game. It's pretty much my favorite game too. I can't wait for this on pc. I can't aim for nothing on controller 😂
That actually sounds like a whole different experience. Im willing to take the challenge!
The reason its good is how realistic it looks and feels
Yeah youre right
