21061 Notre-Dame de Paris attempts to solve one of LEGO Architecture’s most formidable challenges, and in doing so carves out its place as one of the theme’s most ambitious sets to date.
A highly detailed, impressively faithful recreation of one of France’s most iconic buildings with a high piece count and a relatively small footprint when constructed, 21061 Notre-Dame de Paris provides a lengthy, satisfying build in a package that won’t break the bank or take up too much space on the shelf.
And yet the real innovation within 21061 Notre-Dame de Paris is the way the building experience is approached in a historically accurate order, broken into four distinct time periods that stop the build from ever feeling too repetitive, while simultaneously teasing the builder with the prospect of learning more about the history of the iconic source material.

When it comes to repetition, once you’ve built the Eiffel Tower everything else afterwards is simple and barely repetitive in comparison. To me anyway. As for this Notre-Dame, I preordered it on release day. I can’t wait!

    Alternate build - Westminster Abbey.

This, the Eiffel tower, the Colosseum and the Statue of Liberty are all roughly 1:200. They would look great together! Any other Lego sets in this scale?

Looks like an amazing set that I will definitely be picking up. However, I am very disappointed that the front doesn't have any of the iconic gargoyle statues. I realize that the scale of the building makes it hard. Also there are so many gargoyles on Notre-Dame it becomes a question of which ones to include and which ones to ignore. Perhaps they could have been done with some sort of sticker or printed piece.
I wonder if we might see some fan mods to add in at least something where the gargoyles are located.

Also some details of the doors or arches would have been appreciated

In the thumbnail image, "très BON" (very good), would be better than "très BIEN" (very well).

Sacre Coeur is my dream set. Maybe, I have a hope after this.

Very complete review! Thank you, greatly appreciated. I agree that the sets for historical landmarks should provide more historical background, and hopefully going forward the build process will follow historical constructive processes

I think Lego's represention of the building and its history fits the Architecture portfolio quite well. That is to say, owners of the Eiffel Tower will appreciate having another collectable item to display it with. It's much more than a parts bin to make sand castles, for instance.

Luckily I learned a lot about the history of architecture during my architecture degree, so I wholeheartly agree with you plea for more historic details in the manual :)

What’s wrong with a repetitive build? I find it kind of relaxing.

I like the new box style for opening

But I can also see it maybe being annoying for long spread over days/weeks builds.

I want a York Minster or Saint Pauls or Westminster Abbey, not building the enemies buildings.

It’s nice and all but not as big as I’d expected. I would rather have seen LEGO push themselves more and try to recreate the Sagrada Familia! 😂

This doesn't look too repetitious. Imagine building the Great Wall of China...

I agree that more history should have been added, especially since other sets have set the precedent.

Maybe 1200 had worker burnout from the repetition or like Lego fans they lost faith and went dark age. Great vid.🤠

I agree there should have been more history
More Lego sets should have a better build experience like this

I enjoy your channel I thumb up all your videos! I am living in France, so I fully understand the meaning behind this building, and I am a big time world history buff, and I enjoy modeling as a way to pass my time! I am also a commercial building engineer of skyscrapers over 30 floors tall but in the States only! Having said all this I do not like this set at all, and I will not buy this set or even take this set for free! The set has to many things wrong with it that Lego could have fix, but did not; if you look at the main entrance door (the three big ones) the one to the far left is done wrong that is Lego fault, the flying buttresses don't touch the wall like in real life this is sad, and the black and white floor tile is at the wrong scale to the wall in other words very little makes any sense to me I will not build this set even though I very much want this set but Lego got this one wrong, and Lego should know better!

some things could definitely be improved, overall it's still magnificent. my personal comment is the discontinuous pillars inside, and the somewhat odd portrayal of the cathedral's gallery
i don't see how the leftmost door (the pointy one) is incorrect. It looks pretty spot on. Maybe you mean the rightmost one?
you can try fixing the scale of the tiling by looking at the Rivendell set. it won't be perfect, but 1 x 1 tiles set diagonally will make much more sense
