I am halfway through the 12 clips now. Stunnig, incredible play through. Very precise, straight forward. Clear language, no ummms, you knows, errr etc. No repitition. One of the best play throughs I have ever seen. Maybe even the best. Thank you so much for your patient work. I was about to kick the game from my must have list. Watched this because it is mentioned on the GMT descriptions. It is now on place three of my list (of 15). On average I buy 3 games per months. So it will be ordered in the next 3-4 weeks. Thanks to you.
It blows my mind that ten years after I began posting these videos, they are still of use to folks. Definitely would not have predicted it back then! At this point, it's been long enough since I've played the game that I'm going to have to re-watch them to figure it out :) Good hunting!
Thanks Chris !! Just got this game and this should really help get started. Hope you continue this with other play throughs, especially solitaire games. I'm now a subscriber.
In 2nd Ed at least, you set up the map before deciding your command structure, so you can inspect the terrain and adjust your plans accordingly. Not sure if it's the same in 1st Ed.
Fields of Fire is a solitaire wargame that puts you in the role of a company commander in WW2, Korea or Vietnam. I've added links to more info in the description of the video.
Little bit confused here on a couple of things. You say CO HQ and CO XO are Green and everyone else is Line but the Briefing Book says CO 1st Sgt is Veteran. You also say 6 shots for the .50cal but the briefing book says 4 shots. Can you clarify?
Am I misreading the OB in the briefing book, or has there been a change with the 2nd edition? It looks to me that the bazooka teams are not available until mission 3 and the LMGs until mission 4.
Baroque Harpsichord I just took a look at both old and new versions of the briefing books and don't see anything that limits the use of those units in the first mission. Where are you seeing that?
Chris Hobbs - like I said perhaps I am misreading how the briefing book is set up. On pg 2 of briefing book 1 the OB lists the heading, "unit, notation, experience, mission and assets." Under the mission column it has "3" for the bazooka teams for example. 4 listed for the 50 cal. Etc. Does this refer to something else? What the heck does it refer to?
Chris Hobbs - yeah, I found that this morning. Honestly a misprint like this in a 2nd edition release of the game is inexcusable. Just my opinion, but after a couple of play throughs it appears to me the game suffers from serious bloat. It just seems like the game is trying to do too much given the system. Can't help thinking that a better developer might have streamlined the design, and sharpened the focus to just ONE of the periods. Going to give a few more missions a try, but as of now I'm rather disappointed.
Hi Chris. I took the liberty of linking your playthrough to an article about FoF on BSoMT bothsidesofmytable.wordpress.com/solely-solo/3solo-of-hedgerow-lanes-and-orchards-flames/ Hope that is ok with you?
This is still the best intro series to the system. Thanks Chris!

Chris, thanks to you I've successfully learned 80% of this game. Thanks for your hard work and sharing with us!
Love this game. Still gets to the table years after I bought it.
Great job, and thank you Chris.
This is a great series of videos. Thank you for this monumental effort. I ordered a second edition and ebay purchased a first edition. Nicely done!

Wow, that looks like an awesome tactical game! Just the intro has put the game on my radar for sure. Thanks!
Really a great design. Different from anything else I've played.
Thanks a million for making FoF video(s). I can hardly wait to see the whole series!!
I can finally feel safe to start playing! Thank you so much for the video series!

@raygun1966 Thanks a ton! Really appreciate the kind words.
This is great!!!
Although I´m not a wargamer, this completely fascinates me. Thanks for this video...

I still think this is the best play through out there. Curious if you are playing the newest FOF Chris?
Thank you Ray! I have volume 2 but have not had the bandwidth to get it out yet. Hopefully later this year.

I wondered the same; I think these must be changes from 1st to 2nd Edition.
Just learning this game and I have a question. In the set up you allocated 8 phone lines but the mission briefing states 4 lines. Is it 4 or 8?
I believe that is a difference between first and second editions.
Chris Hobbs Thanks for the speedy response

OK, I know what you're referring to now; there was errata posted for that chart, that column should actually be titled 'Ammo per Mission'.

I am glad it wan't streamlined and focused.....enough of that going on elsewhere in my opinion.
Yes, it is.
