I'm a V8 lover, but i am constantly impressed with the work that Ford does to make smaller, more powerful engines. This is how they will stay on top in times like this. Keep up the good work!!
It is impressive. They are on Gen2 w/these GTDI engine designes. 15yrs in production! Well proven. I've owned 3 Ecoboost equipped trucks/SUVs. All were excellent. Current ride is '22 Edge ST AWD. Love it. Not selling this one!
@k.r.99 I wrote that comment 11 years ago. I was in high school 🤣 I've learned a few things since then. I'm still impressed by this video, but their execution of the 1.0 eco in production cars could use a LOT of improvement 💀
@k.r.99 icing on top ... high school age iisj13 would never had guessed he'd grow to love Honda Civics 🤣 (that was my old username. i guess youtube doesn't change them on old comment threads)
Okay, so it was never answered. How fast is the 1L? 3cyl sounds very good. Some questions would've being nice to get an answer for: top speed/HP/Highest RPM???
FORD!!! Please build this and make it a global product at a reasonable price. I own a Focus RS and would love to own this for driving to and from Button Willow in California. This would be the perfect track car for those who can't afford to have their daily driver or prized sporty weekend car blow up by being driven on track.
You go ford mustang ,my dream car.1986 I had an 1978 mustang I wish I had hold on to it.I went to acar show in GlenBurnie Md.3yrs ago most of the cars was mustang some were redone by the owners it was awesome to see so many differnt types of mustang.
Well done Ford, I am speechless, even if it is a superlight formula car. This is still a course that is surprisingly much about speed and power, so this was no shoein, very well done!
Yes, the 1L engine is fast MOUNTED on an extremely lightweight, purpose-built chassis but it isn't an accurate representation of it's capabilities when mounted in a production road car like the focus.
A record lap attempt on the Nürburgring also isn't an accurate representation of a production road car's typical driving conditions. It does just fine in a normal car. Great efficiency and zippy for its size.
my fiesta ecoboost is going up to 205 hp in october and i can't wait. have to send the turbo off to be altered to withstand the extra power. but in april of next year, the forged pistons and cranks are going in. the well into the 200's is possible.
Pumaspeed? I read the article about their white ecoboost fiesta. Neat piece of work. I drive a Fiesta ST200. Got lucky one of the big dealers had 1 in stock.
munnsey the '87 Suzuki Forsa 1.0l 3 cyl turbo was also easily good for 200 hp on stock internals, the asians have mastered the 1.0l a very long time ago. Sure Ford's may be slightly more efficient and get slightly better mileage, but at almost 30 years after Suzuki, I would hope so.
Formula Ford chassis have come a long way since the days of Lola T-342's!!! Is this video representative of current chassis and body rules for Formula Ford? Or were changes made to accommodate the Ring's Public Road Insurance requirements?
It's all about 'durability'' in this case. A 1.0 3 cylinder is enough to drive city miles in a Ford Focus weight car, if you maintain it and don't exceed 2,000 rpm before the oil heats up and use it to do some motorway miles once in a while, you might easily get 160,000 - 180,000 miles out of it, which is more than enough. It's like all engines : maintenance is important. If I were retired, I'd buy one in the blink of an eye. Now I drive too many motorway miles and often too far carrying a bit too much.
It's an "eco boost" engine - it's to show it is both powerful AND economical... they don't WANT just power, it's not "Get a 1L with a tiny stroke, huge bore, and turbo the living shit out of it", it's showing that even though it's designed for economy it's still quite a lot of fun
I still think diesel engines need more research. As you may know here in Portugal the diesel market is much more important than the gas one and we are the top player on diesel engine mods. So, if a random dude, with a few parts can give the car a boost in performance just by changing some stuff, more can do the big companies...
Absolutely not. You can just about get 300bhp on the 3cylinder 1.5l engine in the new ST's. The most I've seen you can get is 205bhp, and thats with a hybrid turbo.
But that's not the design of this engine - this engines designed for economy. If you want power from small displacement, go look at turboed up Hayabusas and the like :P >600 bhp from a 1.3L I think the BMW S1000RRs engine turbos up pretty damn well too, which would be a 1 litre. Both are i4
Now you just have to ship the f6 ute over and do a lap. All of us ford fans are waiting (sick of hearing holden fans bragging about breaking a record that has never existed)
Who cares how fast it is. We want reliability that's consistent. Besides that car weighs 410/420 kg (1000 lb) with the engine. engines, which typically develop about 140/115 hp, are capable of propelling them from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, reaching top speeds of nearly 235/220 km/h (150/140 mph). You won't a big engine with a car that light.
Real Mike Clements I don't think you watches racing at all. If you did you knew formula Ford is a racing formulae used as a stepping stone to formula 1.
That "11th fastest" claim at the end is rather dubious. That's not among road cars, and not even among racing cars. That is a ranking among "non-racing, non road cars". Its a non competitive throwaway class for non-streetlegal cars that don't compete in racing.
When will ford fix the issue with eco boost engines shedding belt fibres and blocking the oil pump, I have seen this happen with as little as 30 - 40k miles, resulting in catastrophic failure. This is an issue common to all wet belt engines including the Peugeot/Citroen puretec 1.2.
Yeah everyone can go fast with 20 horsepowers.. if the car weighs 200 lbs, for an accurate representasion put that engine in a fiesta or focus and see how much slower it is
+R Fox Well this is the list of road legal cars and 7:22 is pretty good. I thought it wasn't a road legal car, but it seems it is. So why it's not in the list I don't know. Maybe the time was dismissed.
dude, the veyron cant turn for shit. theres so many cars that can lap any track faster than a veyron. just because it can aceleratee, doesnt mean itll go fast around a track
That's true it looks weird, but it's because this is from Ford Europe. Many things in Europe are the same but different....this is one example where it looks silly to us, but across the pond, the way we word it looks silly to them. My favorite example is the phrase "That is 5 miles away." In America, we say it all as one phrase and do not stress any words. However, in England, they say " That is 5 MILES away" and stress the word "miles." Sounds ridiculous (no offense to my British friends!) but that's just the way it is!
Of course its going to be fast if you mount it in a toothpick with wheels, and I bet its a remarkable racecar, however sticking a turbo to a 3 cyl landmover engine and then placing it on a focus that weighs a ton and a half..... It´s not going to be any fun to drive
Of course its not. Its economical tho, which is what most of the public wants, and what gets them money. The general public is a bunch of morons, what can ya do.
i know this is a very light car but i drove the fiesta black which is lighter then the focus at 140hp and the lag was terrible and very little torque i dont think the engine in this racing car is the ecoboost engine even at full chat it sounds different i think they have brought out this video to market an engine that wasnt tested that day sounds very similar to the 2000cc engine they have always used in formula ford
You compare a purpose built single seater to standard road cars? Of course it will be faster, especially on a race circuit. Sorry Ford but you shot yourself in the foot here. It is just ridiculous. As is your new Ranger Raptor with a tiny 2L 4 cyl! But with a HUGE price tag.
Yep nothing new, Daihatsu been doing this for ages with the CB70 and CB80 from the mid 80s and 300bhp per litre is not far off. Been several cars getting 260-290bhp. This EcoBoost sounds just like a CB80. Funny how Daihatsu technology is now being copied some 25 years later.
GTtiOC Can you put it in a rear wheel drive layout though? That could be ideal for a car like an Austin 7 or a Ford Model Y, even a post war car like a Ford 100E.
I'm a V8 lover, but i am constantly impressed with the work that Ford does to make smaller, more powerful engines. This is how they will stay on top in times like this. Keep up the good work!!

I mean, Porsche, Koenigsegg, Ferrari, Mercedes etc. so many carmakers are doing the same 🤷🏻♂️
@k.r.99 I wrote that comment 11 years ago. I was in high school 🤣 I've learned a few things since then. I'm still impressed by this video, but their execution of the 1.0 eco in production cars could use a LOT of improvement 💀

Excellent engine designs. Durable, powerful, reliable & great MPG's. Kudos Ford Motor! 💯 🇺🇸
The 3 cylinder sounds quite nice!
Please upload the full lap video. That really is the standard for the community which you are working to attract with this project.
sounds like a bloody 1980's 1.3 liter V6 F1 car!!!!!!
2:06 is the EcoBoost the new StarWars engine?

Great video, love the concept, but sack the cameraman, the in-and-out of focus gave me a bloody headache.
I just put this engine into a new holland skid steer and it runs great!

If only you guys sold crate motors, and a convertible with this motor "with an available manual transmission" in it in the US. I'd buy both.
My thoughts the same. And those at Nürburgring. do not even recognise it as a lap record :-)
cmon ford buy the man new gloves.
Those are EcoGloves

It's not fast, it's quick. There's a difference.
I think the footage was from a warm up lap because it looked bloody slow, and I know this driver is quick. Why not show some hot laps?

the st200 has a huge amount of possibilities which would turn it from a beast into a monster. happy driving
Thank you, happy driving to you too.
I'm just saying that the challenge of extracting lots of power out of small engine would be interesting to observe.
it sounds like a TIE fighter at 2:06 - 2:09!!!! that is epic
The old Daihatsu Charade GTti 1.0 3 cylinder turbo can be tuned to over 250hp, stock internals
munnsey the '87 Suzuki Forsa 1.0l 3 cyl turbo was also easily good for 200 hp on stock internals, the asians have mastered the 1.0l a very long time ago. Sure Ford's may be slightly more efficient and get slightly better mileage, but at almost 30 years after Suzuki, I would hope so.
engine life: 10k km
Formula Ford chassis have come a long way since the days of Lola T-342's!!! Is this video representative of current chassis and body rules for Formula Ford? Or were changes made to accommodate the Ring's Public Road Insurance requirements?
The car was modified to be a street legal car. Normally it would be a wingless open wheel car just like it always has been.
Is this video made to make people sick? This constant "creative" blur is really anoing...
"anoing"?
What's with the constantly shifting focus??
Nice bit nothing Daihatsu wasn't doing in the 80s with the CB80 in the GTti.
Forget RENAULTsport Spider, KTM X-Bow and BAC Mono!
I would buy one, if it will be road legal here in germany!
Where to buy it?
Now that's an awesome concept car! Shame it wasn't put into production.
You can still buy one you just have to have it built at a shop that knows what there doing here's the link. www.streetlegalracecar.com/

Ecoboost series should appear in Indonesia
This is good, but how will this fare with the 3.5l ecoboost?
+SpazGamingHD put that on F1 car!
I still think diesel engines need more research. As you may know here in Portugal the diesel market is much more important than the gas one and we are the top player on diesel engine mods. Veyron only managed to do a 7:40 lap time :-)
Excellent car

How much and how to order?
where can i buy one of these if im in the USA?
love fords
I want this engine in my Charade :)
You have a daihatsu that still runs? Or it doesn't like the rest of them and thats why you want this motor? Lol
are you joking? 7-22 is fantastic lap time
¡THIS SHOULD BE PERFECT TO

Doesn't take much power to move an 1100lb car
Now you just have to ship the f6 ute over and do a lap. All of us ford fans are waiting (sick of hearing holden fans bragging about breaking a record that has never existed)
So to make the engine good, you just needed to remove the ford?
That was cool. Can I have that blower strapped to my wife's LX Focus please:)
Sounds like an I-6!
How would it do if it was a 2 stroke
Obviously it's not, but Ford is proving that small gasoline engines are posible to compite with big diesels ones, and that is a big advance.

nearly identical to Prost's Mclaren mp4/4 at low speeds
495kg and a driver that's about 75kg wet through, it should shift! How's about a bit more power in our road cars eh?
I think that little guy just beat the Lamborghini Aventador.
i ain't even mad
You don't even have to worry about fuel consumption.
Is this the near future of race cars?
Daniel McIntosh if f1 switched to this I’d quit watching
Daniel McIntosh
No.
It is the present actually
past, present and future. just needs to come down a bit from 75 grand already.
Real Mike Clements I don't think you watches racing at all. If you did you knew formula Ford is a racing formulae used as a stepping stone to formula 1.
Hi ford, would you like to generously donate a 1l ecoboost crate engine for my mk2 ford fiesta? And possibly a 2l ecoboost for my mk1 :P
yea right

Formula Ford has never used a 2000cc engine. It was 1600cc and since 2012 Ford has offered a 1600cc turbocharged Ecoboost engine for the series.
