  • I just wanted to be one of the first to get a video out of the Sparrows Disc Pick in use 😆😆😆 I chose the Kryptonite Keeper since it is well known, mid-range and relatable. 🔐👍

      I don't think you will have to wait long as I get the impression from Sparrows website they will soon have another batch. Then again, look how long it took them to get this first batch out.

      @@LockNoob it must be something they are going to be looking into now that they are seeing different reviews from the community. Most of the complaints I have seen are based on the very limited number of cores it's able to pick. This tool is capable of so much more if it only had more components like the bullet pick you reviewed today

    It still looks a tricky pick with a 1st class bit of kit,(for me that is)I have no doubt it's going to be some time before can at my hands on one.there is a second tool that I believe L P L starts with to turn all the disc to the right before proceeding with the picking,maybe another name I have missed.well done for the vid and good picking at a high standard,billbo.

    Funny enough I ordered a Kryptinite original keeper a while ago. It's probably stuck in some sorting office waiting for Covid to go away so they can deliver to my place of employment. I anticipated getting it knowing the Sparrows DD was just around the corner.

    Hi, I don't know much about locks, but every door lock or padlock I can remember opened (with the key) only in the anti clockwise direction, basically like regular right hand threads. This and quite a few other videos show locks tensioned to open in the clockwise direction when picked. I'm probably missing something...?

    I'm really twisted on this pick because on one hand it will give criminals more easy access to these locks but on the other hand most criminals don't pick locks and this will most certainly will push the industry forward with new surcrity innovations to combat this but I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't feel as safe with my bike lock anymore. but that will just happen with time weather this pick came out or not. And I will still be picking one up myself and I'm very grateful for LPL and bill for giving away their design for free truly wonderful people.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t worry. There are destructive bypasses criminals have been using on these locks for YEARS which take seconds and don’t need specific equipment and training. This may look easy on video, but it took me hours to get used to the tool and I’m still learning. A tool like this won’t appeal to criminals.

    • @LockNoob

      Don’t feel like that, it’s a perfectly logical response and also is picker always put more stock into picking than it deserves even though criminals just don’t bother since they don’t need to

    If I run into back tension disc lock what do I do ?if I am using this sparrow disc pick
    In the first place HOW DO I KNOW OR TELL IF THE DISC LOCK HAS BACK OR FRONT TENSION?THANKS FOR ANY INFO PROVIDED

    • @MrDLRu
      @MrDLRu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cheap Chinesium disc detainer set of 2 picks you see on ebay, has a rear tensioner in the set. Without knowing how the lock operates, if it's rear tensioning and you front tension, you'll get zero resistance on the discs. I'm new at this, but have a StarSR padlock I got to practice on. It has 2 thicker discs in front that I tension off of, but get zero inner disc tension, so I have to assume it's a rear tensioning lock. To be clear, the 2 thicker discs will spin and stop about 1/4 turn from where the key stops turning to open the lock. While I'm waiting for the Chinesium picks, I will be getting a Reese receiver disc lock to practice with, as that is front tensioning.

    • @lockpremium9826
      @lockpremium9826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrDLRu well I am not getting any resistance on this disc padlocks I am using and this sparrow disc pick is turning into a headache to make it work.i will try on U-disc bike lock and see what I get if not I will just have to sell this sparrow disc thanks anyways 😀

    • @MrDLRu
      @MrDLRu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lockpremium9826 It's definitely not the pick, it's awesome for the price. Because the blade it narrow, which allows it to be used on precision locks with more discs, you have to use the technique of using a finger against the pick barrel and lined shaft to help keep the blade in line with the disc while turning the blade barrel. None of them explain that in their videos, but watch and see them doing that. LPL/Lock Noob picked a Reese receiver lock with the Sparrow and they are much cheaper than the U bike locks they've picked. Have fun pickin' and you won't have a problem selling that.

    Just received mine today, now I need to wait for a Kryptonite New York to be delivered next week.
    So far I only picked a cheap padlock and it was a bit more difficult than with the $5 Chinese pick as the tip is more difficult to place correctly on the thin disks. Also maybe because I tried to not force on the tip while I generally have heavy hands with the basic tool.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you do have to hold the tip into the lock to make sure you don’t torque out of the keyway

    Looks like you barely got it in there if that lock was any longer with this shell you wouldn't have been able to hit it with the tensioner what happens when the lock makers notice this perhaps we could add an adapter to it to make it longer with the rod a little extra longer to compensate as well?

    I am totally confused on which way you turn the pick tip. Is it clockwise or counter clockwise? I see you doing both and getting clicks in both directions. 😳

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I start turning clockwise to find a gate, but if I’m unsure I will turn backwards too. You get clicks from going in and out of gates plus when the tip slips off a disc 👍
