I first had lard bread when I lived in Brooklyn in the 80s. My friends and I would pick up a loaf after bar hopping, the perfect end to many fun evenings. 40 years later, back home in North Carolina, and I can’t stand it anymore, I need that bread at least to prove to myself it existed. I find your recipe, hit the Wegmans for the deli meats and cheese, and bake it up for Christmas Eve. Dadgum if that wasn’t amazing! Thanks fellas for helping this good ol’ girl re-live her glory days!
This is my favorite bread ever. Before i started making it myself i used to buy it from my grocery store on 25th avenue at 86th street. I want to pass on a fewvthings i've learned. 1. While beer is a quick way to do it, ifvyou have time, let the dough slowlyvferment in the fridge for 3 days. 2. Instead of olive oil, or in addition to it, cook down some of the salami to render out the fat and add that directly to the dough. This adds intense flavor.. Plus the cooked down meatvwill add a nice texture to the bread. Lastly, try baking the bread inside a preheated cast iron dutch oven, first half with the lid on, second half lid off. Im telling you...next level! I love you guys!!!
Wow we haven't had prosciutto bread since living in NY. You guys are gonna get me and my hubby overweight , because how can I resist making these recipes. 😊

I live in Toronto and my friend in NYC keeps telling me to find this stuff, but can't - it's a real NY thing. I'm baking this tomorrow - thanks for the great video!
I've been making spinach bread by rolling out the dough and laying in spinach and mozzarella & provolone cheese and rolling up. Been doing pepperoni and cheese too. Same way rolled up. I've got to try chopped and mixed with dough. Never saw it done that way.
I’m hosting Christmas this year and wanted to pull out all the stops. Any suggestions if I wanted to prep in advance? Can I prepare the dough the night before and keep in fridge?

For all the bachelors and bachelorettes out there, memorize this recipe. It will serve you well. Trust me when I say if you gift this to someone or use this to host an event, people will love you for it. Quick set of hot tips: • Go to your local deli and ask if they have any end cuts they are willing to sell to you for discount prices for meats and cheeses. Some cheese mongers in grocery stores like Kroger have a $5 and under bin for off cuts of wedge cheeses. This'll assist with budgets. • If you cant find prosciutto and other Italian deli meats ( or dont have a local deli), switch it up and cube up your favorite lunch meats and buy decent quality shredded cheese.
I heard or read somewhere that the coal miners wives in Pennsylvania and W. Virginia made a similar bread with pepperoni and/or salami for the men to take into the coal mines for their lunch boxes because the meat would keep a long time without refrigeration.........I don't think it had the cheese though.
Yea boyzzzz!! I make it too, but I don't give the recipe out to nobody lol, do you know in Brooklyn they charge $9 bucks a loaf for that bread, what's the matter with you?!? 😆 just kidding but don't give away the prosciutto ball recipe, or I'm coming down there, I'm not kidding 😤
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking omg, you're kidding me! Please tell me that you're kidding me? How the hell did you come out of Brooklyn not ever having a prosciutto ball?!? Not even from Pastosa?? I'm going to send you a picture of mine on Facebook later today, make sure you for it!

Hello. Scotto's Bakery on 13 Ave. near 39 Street sold Lard bread. Is this the same thing? Just asking for a friend.
Hello there! Lard bread is a little different. This bread does not have lard in it. It’s really hard to find meat lard these days.
I drove a fuel oil truck in Brooklyn, Queens for years. How I never had this bread amazes me. I live in Colorado now, but I have to come back to B'klyn just to try it. Thank you for the recipe.@@BrooklynBrothersCooking

It's called a pepperoni roll,it was easy made and easily wrapped and stored in a lunch bucket,it didn't need refrigeration
Can you substitute melted lard for the olive oil?
Absolutely
Ny Guys! Mint
What type of Lager do you use???
It’s been a while, I believe it was fosters.
@Brooklyn Brothers Cooking - Papa P & Chef Dom Thanks brother!

What is weight of each dough?
The Dough ball is 16 ounces, so 8 ounces per loaf.
Was the oven convection or straight bake at 450?
We need the recipe. Where can we get the exact recipe?
As the video is plays, you will see the ingredients and process.
Did you mean 1/4 tsp of yeast or 1/4 ounce as you said?
1/4 once

Why not add the pepper, pecorino, and meat and provolone in with the dry ingredients first?
🤔
