I have read many of the comments. I feel like many of them. 😊 I made this recipe today. My son and his family were over the moon! I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I have eaten this many times but this was the first time I've made them! All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤. You made me very HAPPY 😁
My Grandma used to make this delicious recipe during Xmas holidays in Argentina, an now I am in charge of it. Nona Antonia you are in my thoughts and thank you for sharing your traditions with me and the family, forza Italy.
Our family lived in Argentina in the 50's. My mother made these but she made a ground beef filling added an olive and fried them in oil. No powdered sugar on these. I've been looking for this dough recipe for a long time. I will make them. 😊.
I grew up in Queens but my Father's family came from Williamsburg. We went to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast every year when I was young. I have video that my Uncle Junior took of the feast in 1961! Great memories! This is the way I remember eating zeppoles with lots of confectionery sugar! You guys remind me of my family! Keep these traditions alive and thank you so much!
My people were born in Lucca, Polermo, N.Italy.. we had 3 Italian restaurants..Vince's in Sacramento, CA..delicattesan..moterdella, procuitto, salami, etc.. fresh baked pizza, poorboy sandwiches..my Auntie Marlene Talani would bring home pizza dough after work and fry it..sometimes sprinkle powder sugar on it..we always had homemade pasta at every holiday..homemade raviolli..my aunt would take bed sheets lay it on top of their beds to dry the pasta out before boiling..the Catholic priest from Ireland would always come over and say grace, blessing..big big loving Italian family!! You brother's are awesome and make me smile!!❤ thank you! 🎉😊
Seriously, can’t even tell you how much I needed this today! Ya know how sometimes Sundays get you feeling some type of way? A little homesick, thinking about those that have passed on… Just one of those days. Scanned your channel earlier today and thought, yeah, THAT’S what I want! Just sitting here now with a paper bag full of goodness. Thanks guys, this recipe is perfect. 👌 ❤
I find your recipes so easy to follow. It's a pleasure to watch your channel. I make my zeppoles with no sugar in the dough and I sprinkle them with a little bit of salt at the end instead of powdered sugar. I make them in the shape of a doughnut. That's how my Nona made them (I'm 78 years old) and I still make them every Christmas Eve for the 'Night of the Seven Fishes'. Growing up my Nona lived with us and when she made them she would hand me one that was still hot and she would say 'Soffio' to me (which means 'Blow' in Italian) because they were still hot. I was a very young boy and I interpreted it to 'SCHOOSH' and to this day we still call the zeppoles 'SCHOOSH'. I love your mom. She raised two good boys. Thanks again for such a HAPPY channel.
Honey 🍯 can be substituted for sugar both in dissolving (feeding) yeast in warm water (so dough rise faster) and dunking zeppole in 🍯 is a healthier sweet alternative. I’m going to try the No sweetener in dough (leave to rise overnight), & salt for a savory taste. 🙏😋
This is THE recipe! I've never had them in a restaurant but have been eating them all my life every Xmas eve thanks to my Italian American mother who was born and raised in New Jersey. We never bothered with powdered sugar but eat them right out of the deep fryer as soon as they are cool enough to touch.
My Mom’s Aunt in Brooklyn made the zeppoles with a little ricotta in them. They were so light with powdered sugar. Delicious. Omg. Yummy. Italians cook delicious meals. I grew up In The Bronx. Family Lived near 187th St. The Italian feast. All those good Italian bakeries and bread stores etc.
I love that you included "The Lift" in this! Back in Queens, my elementary school did a fantastic feast/carnival every spring. We would go for the zeppoles after dinner. They were in a brown paper bag, caked on confections sugar, soaking the bag through with oil.... And they were marvelous!! I'll need to try your recipe out! Now, I'll need sausage and peppers today!
I've been looking for this recipe since we left NYC in 1980🥹🙏 we lived on 1st Ave Manhattan. Feasts were literally set up in front of where we lived. Ty for giving me back my memories of a time I loved. GB your fam😊
I can't wait to make these. I'm from Flushing Queens but spent a better part of my life in Manhattan. You knew where the best Zeppoles came from and it was usually at a pizzeria at the window. Walking down the street with a greasy brown paper bag, powder all over your face and shirt. Mmmm, hot a fresh! I'll be making these for my son. Thank you for the recipe. BTW you made my son want to start making bread, he's 13 with Autism and had no desire to learn how to cook until he saw your prosciutto bread video. Now I have a new KitchenAid mixer and all kinds of baking gear on the way. From one Italian to the next bless you both!
Thanks for sharing your story. So happy to hear your son is interested in cooking now! Chef Dom has a son with autism, so we understand the situation. we would love to give your son a shout out during a video. If you are OK with that, What is your son‘s name?
I made these today. Kids loved them. It was so much fun to watch the kids eat them... of coarse, they kept asking for more powdered sugar. Lol. Thanks a bunch guys! Tell momma hello!

Don't know about anyone else, but I love them from my local pizza place where they make them to order and just throw them in the bag with sugar. By the time you get home (about 3 minutes for me) the bag is translucent from the oil.
I love zeppoles. I didn't know they were that easy to make. Used to get great ones at a local pizza place in Coral Springs, FL. Great recipe. Happy 4th to you and mom!!!

Very cool! We love the feast!
Do you keep checking on the oil so it doesn't get to hot?
We only check on the temperature when we make a large batch of them. Typically once the oil reaches its desired temperature, you’re good to go.
What type of flour are you using? All-Purpose or Bread?
It’s all-purpose.
Can you make the dough and freeze half to use later?
I don’t recommend phasing this type of dough.

Some PLACES DON'T ANYMORE BECAUSE OF HEALTH
They look like beignets from New Orleans!
Ever make these with ricotta and vanilla extract ? We call them spinges .
Never did. Are they good?
In Chicago they put salt on them, calling them salt bread

I would think using olive oil healthier than vegetable oil
Olive oil burns quickly. For deep frying, it’s best to use vegetable, canola or peanut oil.
