My greatest fear when it comes to a Gears adaptation is that they'll simply see the giant, brawny characters and chainsaw rifles and decide to turn it into a show about dumb jokes and explosions. While Gears is certainly about that, there's so much depth to the characters and brotherhood between them that should be explored.
Bro, they fucked up Halo. Halo as a show should've been a layup. There's a 0% chance they wouldn't fumble a Gears adaptation. Though Fallout was good, so...maybe.
@@TheLanceUppercut I think one of the things that makes Fallout work is that they didn't just take a bunch of already known characters and change them. They crafted an original story in the same universe and I think if they did that for Gears it'd be amazing. Seeing another squad face some of the horrors we've faced throughout the games would be awesome.

It's literally ANOTHER find your family plot and they changed/altered a TON of lore... Maybe not so bad to the casual fans of the series, or fans of just 4, but to long-standing fans the show was REALLY rough, not to mention the very distracting ultra-clean cinematography, a plot full of conveniences and some truly shoddy character work on everyone but the MC.
We need the horror, the world building, the bonds between characters, and the suffering. I don’t need laughs and explosions. I don’t need flashy effects and bullshit. If Gears was adapted seriously, they’d give us nothing less than perfection.
The first trailer pretty much sums up Marcus's life. Everything he cared for were shattered, but he was still forced to fight a war he could never truely win. He ended up having to face the enternal darkness alone. One of the most sympathetic characters in video games.
The lighting on the corpser in the mad world trailer fits lighting continuity. When Marcus starts shooting, it backs up beyond the overhead light, and when it starts lunging forward you can see the overhead lighting on its face again.
just so you know, the song in the first Gears of War 4 trailer wasn't a cover of Mad World. it was a cover of Sound of Silence by Disturbed (originally by Simon and Garfunkel)
Gears 3 having the "brothers to the end" slogan hits so hard, as its the end of the trilogy, Dom, adam fenix, and war. Gears of war 3 ended so many things, and the mention of brothers in the slogan, Epic knew that his death would hit hard, and hard did it hit
I wouldn't say Gears fell into the sequel issue, 4 and 5 were definitely hated, but it was more because they changed the main character from Marcus to his son and the enemies you've been fighting every game up to this point were side lined to introduce 2 new groups of enemies. Leaving little connective tissue with the previous brand identify. But the story for the two games was actually pretty good.

Great video! Always interesting to get the perspective of someone experienced in these fields. Also, I do believe all the trailers for Gears 1-3 were done "in-engine" but basically every frame is pre-rendered using higher quality assets.
The first game was in many ways the best, it captured the hopelessness you got from that trailer more than any of the other games. Even when you think the gears are winning for once, it's taken away from you. Future titles actually play as well or even better but the story moves away from the initial concept to tell a story about human survival and winning against all odds rather than fighting against inevitable defeat.

@@kaizammit it's the story of Baird and Coletrain during the early Lokust war, it's around them instead of Marcus and Delta as a whole! Personally, I found the game amazing and underrated! Great cinematics in it too!

I just found your channel a couple days ago and I’m absolutely loving it. I want to mention something about the gears of war 4 trailer. At the end of gears of war 3 Marcus is very broken up about losing so much because of the war and Anya goes to comfort him. Marcus ends up asking her “what’s left?” And Anya replies “tomorrow. We finally have a tomorrow.” Skip to the first gears of war 4 trailer and what is it titled? Tomorrow. I also love if you could react to the Dead Island announcement trailer and the Metro Exodus trailer Artyom’s Nightmare if you haven’t seen them. They’re both beautiful trailers and Artyom’s Nightmare is probably my favorite game trailer of all time.

Most people say, and i agree as well that Gears of war 1 has the best atmosphere and horror elements, Gears 2 has the best story and emotion, Gears 3 has the best journey and also emotion, but lacked in atmosphere from the first 2. Gears Judgement felt too much like call of duty and the graphics were abit cartoony in a way. Gears 4 kindof went back to a horror approach but didnt achieve it at a high level, and the story and tone felt abit off. Gears 5 was kindof hated by most people due to them making it open world which loses the claustrophobic isolation the first 3 had, it was too bright and colorful losing out on the bleakness of the first 2. Its my favorite franchise and after seeing the new EDay trailer, im so hyped. Cant wait to see you react and film review it

Past halo, gears has one of my favourite stories. Interesting characters, and an engaging and emotional story Still hoping dave bautista gets his dream to be Marcus fenix.
All trailers have been created within the Unreal Engine and the Mad World trailer always hit hard. They dedicated a whole section in the art of gears making of book to it . Too bad that some trailers of gears 1-3 are missing and they lacked the vocals. Still great to see your reaction. Need to replay the games and read the novels yet again. Some game events hit even more with certain lore background known. You can start Gears 4 and 5 without having played the first three. They come with a „what happened so far“ feature. However I’m more fond with the first three. They had me crying which is very rare. Just love that video game franchise, even the mediocre Gears: Judgement 😅 Delta out

I think it's best if no one tries to make a Gears movie or show. With how everything is these days, it would be ruined beyond imagination by the same things that ruin everything else. I spent the entirety of my teenage years playing those games. I don't think I'd ever seen the trailers for the first 2, but I got a little teary eyed in the Gears 2 trailer when Dom is looking at the photo of him and Maria. Which ties in to him falling in the Gears 3 trailer and just giving up right there. Dom had it rough. As far as the games getting worse as they go on.. .eh. Gears 3 had some issues with the pacing. They had a novelist write the story, I don't think she did terrible, but there maybe needed to be another writer to help her with the pacing. Gears 4 is decent, it's really not too bad of a reboot, but it's not like the OG trilogy. And my biggest issue with the games is Kait in Gears 5. "Girl power" very much sums it up, and for some reason they have her written so that she thinks she's the only one who's lost someone. Nevermind Marcus watching his best friend/brother sacrifice himself to buy time for everyone, or Marcus going AWOL from the COG to save his father, only to not be able to find him for 20 years, and when he finally does, his dad dies and turns to ashes in his arms. And then there's the COG very intentionally killing Anya as she was getting treatments to be able to bear a child. It's like Kait is bordering on being a Mary Sue with a victim complex. Very weird, very obnoxious. Game is alright besides that. I have no real interest in Gears 6 though.
10:49 exactly why reinvent the wheel? Why “fix” something that ain’t broke? Its already a masterpiece that just needs to be shifted in the media its presented in and nothing more, a genre change to have horror or thriller elements would do gears fantastic especially with the beserker in the church moment
Where are you watching these trailers? Most of them should have sounds not just music. This happened a lot with your halo videos where it was trailers and/or gameplay with just music and no sound.

1 to 3 was the best, with the best story, the maps, campaign, and characters the brotherhood... good times playing split screen.. 4 was ok 5 was fine because we got to see some parts of the old game history
Kait, the girl in 4 and 5, is a bit insufferable as a character. She is consistently melodramatic and unreasonable to the main cast she is around. Pretty much the weakest character in the new trilogy story. Gameplay of 4 and 5 is fantastic but their stories have a lil bit to be desired.
Was not a big fan of the marketing for gears 4-5, looked generic to me compared to to the first 3 games. Nightmare reborn trailer from gears 4 was cool asf tho.
the answer to your question is yes. Gears 4 and 5 suffered massively from the sequel problem. Gears 4 wasnt awful but it was bad. Gears 5 was just straight terrible.

Gears 5 is fairly easy to jump into, everything in that trailer there is in-game footage. Would recommend a play.

Need to replay the games and read the novels yet again. Some game events hit even more with certain lore background known.
You can start Gears 4 and 5 without having played the first three. They come with a „what happened so far“ feature. However I’m more fond with the first three. They had me crying which is very rare.

I think it's best if no one tries to make a Gears movie or show. With how everything is these days, it would be ruined beyond imagination by the same things that ruin everything else. I spent the entirety of my teenage years playing those games.
I don't think I'd ever seen the trailers for the first 2, but I got a little teary eyed in the Gears 2 trailer when Dom is looking at the photo of him and Maria. Which ties in to him falling in the Gears 3 trailer and just giving up right there. Dom had it rough.
As far as the games getting worse as they go on.. .eh. Gears 3 had some issues with the pacing. They had a novelist write the story, I don't think she did terrible, but there maybe needed to be another writer to help her with the pacing.
Gears 4 is decent, it's really not too bad of a reboot, but it's not like the OG trilogy. And my biggest issue with the games is Kait in Gears 5. "Girl power" very much sums it up, and for some reason they have her written so that she thinks she's the only one who's lost someone. Nevermind Marcus watching his best friend/brother sacrifice himself to buy time for everyone, or Marcus going AWOL from the COG to save his father, only to not be able to find him for 20 years, and when he finally does, his dad dies and turns to ashes in his arms. And then there's the COG very intentionally killing Anya as she was getting treatments to be able to bear a child.
It's like Kait is bordering on being a Mary Sue with a victim complex. Very weird, very obnoxious. Game is alright besides that. I have no real interest in Gears 6 though.

The 1st Gears of War has the best overall story, but 2 and 3 each have high points that are higher than any point in the original.

10:49 exactly why reinvent the wheel? Why “fix” something that ain’t broke? Its already a masterpiece that just needs to be shifted in the media its presented in and nothing more, a genre change to have horror or thriller elements would do gears fantastic especially with the beserker in the church moment

Gears 3 was the last good one, honestly. I stopped playing after that, and I tried 4 and 5, they just aren't the same.
Where are you watching these trailers? Most of them should have sounds not just music. This happened a lot with your halo videos where it was trailers and/or gameplay with just music and no sound.

1 to 3 was the best, with the best story, the maps, campaign, and characters the brotherhood... good times playing split screen.. 4 was ok 5 was fine because we got to see some parts of the old game history

Kait, the girl in 4 and 5, is a bit insufferable as a character.
She is consistently melodramatic and unreasonable to the main cast she is around.
Pretty much the weakest character in the new trilogy story.
Gameplay of 4 and 5 is fantastic but their stories have a lil bit to be desired.
Gears died with 3.
It was awesome.
Was not a big fan of the marketing for gears 4-5, looked generic to me compared to to the first 3 games. Nightmare reborn trailer from gears 4 was cool asf tho.
Storywise they're def handling the sequels better than current Halo. 💀
the answer to your question is yes. Gears 4 and 5 suffered massively from the sequel problem. Gears 4 wasnt awful but it was bad. Gears 5 was just straight terrible.
