This video helped me tear apart someone's laptop to replace the nearly decade old thermal paste. This machine is more of an unnecessary pain in the ass to tear apart than it should be but I got it repasted and back together and working again. Kudos!

I commend you for using an Anti-static strap. I always use mine. I had to replace a motherboard in a Macintosh computer many years ago. I don't want to go through that again!

  • @khazms
    @khazms 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

This was very helpful, thanks. It would have been a tiny bit easier for me to see the battery removed first if possible with everything else intact as much as possible.
But nonetheless, this was great as a general disassembly for the laptop and I'll definitely keep coming back to it again for future disassembly.
One question though, is the anti static wrist thing necessary just for replacing the battery and/or cleaning the fans?

Thanks. This video confirmed the screw type.
The screw to the service plate under the rubber cover is so small that none of my screwdrivers fit into it (not even a jeweler or optician took). : (
The HDD failed with no warning. I meed to replace it. I suppose I’ll have to drill out the screw or something. I don’t know. What a **** situation.
Bad design to have such a small fragile screw (and not inspect it’s condition when shipping the laptop).
Edit: Thankfully I was able to get the screw out without resorting to more aggressive means.

Late to the party but hopefully not too late:
      - As long as you work on a wooden table, you shouldn't need an anti-static bracelet.
      - Whatever you do during the cleaning process, do it slowly and gently. Try holding each component by the sides, avoiding touching the circuitry components ontop of them.
      - While the guy in this vid didn't wear gloves, it is recommended to do so.
      - Remembered exactly which screw went in which place, as many of them have different length. What I did was dividing two sheets of paper into sections and labelling them with different components that I would need to unscrew. I would then set aside corresponding screws within those sections.
If you still need to do the cleanup, I wish you luck. If you have already done it, I hope it went well and the tips above will be useful in the future

@@Drygun1607 that's soo depressing. I wish they cared about maintaining tech instead of just upgrading models every few years. It's soo crap for the environment as well. This laptop was soo good for me I had it for 10 years!! It's worked like a charm for over a decade.

@@alexd216 yeah it was an excellent laptop! Its components were ahead of its time and resistant as well. Mine lasted 7 years whereas i travelled it each week (because i was in joint custody) and i was kinda sad to see a black screen overnight... This time i bought each components, a tower and a bag so as to replace myself the détective component next time and not haine to biy a whole new PC (which is very expansive💀). If you have enough money, i advise you to do the same😉

Can you be more specific? Do you have a password? Does it just show an infinite progress bar/circle after you press the sign-in button? Does it not recognize mouse or keyboard input?

@@fearofdaaily7355 That sounds like a boot problem :( Could be a bad boot file or your hard disk has crashed. If you have a CD or USB that came with your laptop you can try and load it and see if it will boot from that. If it does you might be able to repair windows. Ubuntu Linux is free and can also boot from a disc or USB stick. You can also boot to BIOS and check the hard drive by holding F2 when powering on and don't let it go until you see the BIOS. Basically if it boots from a CD or USB, then you need to focus on Windows startup repair or checking the hard drive for failure. Good luck!
