Originally the script to "The Day after Tomorrow" leaked to Trey & Matt and they wanted a parody of that movie done with puppets at the same time the original released into theatres. They invested a lot of resources when a lawyer finally broke through to them explaining the legal nightmare they were stepping into. Not throwing away the resources, shooting was a nightmare with constant changes and writing the movie on the fly. It's a miracles it turned out as good as it is. It's one of Quentin Tarantino's favourite movies for spoofing at all the Hollywood clishées at the time.

NATO, the USA maintaining a military to fight several wars at once, USA bases worldwide, the dollar as the world currency, etc all are a form of world police.
