You know that everything Jamaicans do, we do it differently right? Well here's my take on how I fry green plantains (Tostones). It might not be just how you do it but yet the important thing is that we get it fried good and well enough to eat. Hope you all get to try this one in your neck of the woods!

Excellent recipe and I like your step-by-step instructions! Made them last night and they turned out so good! Thank you for sharing!!!
I really love how you make those plantations the presentation is lovely my husband and kids will love this
jennifer annunciacao I hope it turns out great!! Thanks for watching. Subscribe for more
This is exactly how us Puerto Ricans make it. And yes, I cannot be without my "Tostonera" greatest invention ever.
SandyD what type of oils do you all use because that's a lot of oil I'm curious ?
I’m African American and I’ve been in love with these things since I was a child!! Lol my auntie is Puerto Rican and showed me how to make them. Never forgot the recipe.
I tried and it kind of had a fried potato taste, is that about right? or did I mess it up lol
joekunedo you cannot mess this up. Make sure the plantains are very green and deep fry for at least 5 minutes on each side.
sOn flower sorry I’m
Responding now. I just saw this. The amount of oil is OK. Corn and Vegetable are the best for frying.
Nice one. I learnt one way of preparing unripe plantain. In Ghana, we do so many things with green (unripen) as well as the ripened ones.
Ghanaians use the ripened plantain to prepare something similar to what you've done.
Oooohhh, our kind of food; I mean, the black man's food, we can go on and on, till day breaks.
Thank you for your endeavours.
🖒🖒🖒💟💟💟
Such a great video! Thanks for making this! This step by step guide will make it super easy for me to enjoy this in my home many miles away and I thank you. Bless up!
You are most welcomed. Please feel free to watch my other videos as well.
I had this at The Jerk Hut Restaurant in Tampa Florida a few years ago for the first time,I loved them. Thanks for showing me how to make these. I cant wait to eat these again.
This was lovely. I never in my life saw this before. But my house was bare with plenty green plantains.
My kids enjoyed this as well
Glad you enjoyed it!
I went for Chinese take out...and I saw the Chinese people doing tostones...they r in another level...read this...with a CLEAVER they smashed and
Straight to the oil...no fuss..no mess...same results delish...
Different strokes for different folks! As long as the result is to your liking, the methods can be varied. My motto says it all, "Tun Yuh Hands Mek Fashion" meaning use what is available to you and make something great from it!!
Another great video. Your an ambassador for foodies and Jamaica. God bless always!
I appreciate that. Bless up
Fry plantains is my favorite I grew eating it , I have a plantain crusher that I bought when I went to my country to visit 🇩🇴 and is the best, nice & easy , they sale it in New York too .food looks so good 😊
Thanks much!!
Use a cup to squash them or a bottle of glass where the garlic comes in
Great video! I found my crusher at Walmart in Southern California.. The plantains can be found in the Asian markets too. Also another way I crush the plantains is between the folds of a paper bag. Thanks for sharing.
jdthknowles4 great! my mom crushed them in the skins. Walmart has everything! lol!
Making some green plantain with oxtail tonight. Needed a reminder course. Thank you.
Hope it turned out well! Enjoy!!
I sometimes make my plantains by adding nutmeg or ground cinnamon also just delicious.
I am an American but learned how to cook plantains from my good friend from Ghana.
This is beautiful Thankyou. I live in a tropical area in Australia and have lots of plantain bananas everywhere. ❤️❤️I can’t wait to try this beautiful Jamaican recipe
I would use my tortilla press to crush the plantains. Also, I put wax paper on the bottom and then a piece over the top and theres no mess to clean up once done.
chadzwife1 good idea...
Thank you Yardie!!! I am craving some plantains , bought some today. Can't wait to fry them up just like you made them
I loved the way you say diagonally.... thank you for this video. Bless🙏
the crushinator used for crushinating
+TheGomjabar Lol! I get carried away with my own words some times. oops
Hello! Great video! I learned a lot! I did not understand what you said was on your plate. It looks good!
I use the bottom of a jar to crush them . The leftovers I chop and add to scrambled eggs for breakfast .
As long as they get crushed! that's the important thing!! Thanks for watching my video. Hope you get to see others from my channel.
Excellent I grew up hearing the word tostony when mom fry and press it out, very delicious

Recently discovered these cooking bananas and can't stop eating them! (Just had some with fried sausages and avocado salad...mmm)
I just don't crush them & prefer the firm texture
I make these in coconut oil and then add some cinnamon and honey. They are delicious 😋
Sounds great! I will have to try this version!!

Thank you for the instructions. I never knew. Please tell me which type of oil you use in the pan.
Sorry for the late response. I use to use canola oil but now I've switched to peanut oil because I researched the canola oil and found out it wasn't as healthy as they said. Please share my videos and thanks.
You can also use a small.plate to flatten. If stuck add a bit of oil to bottom of plate
You could pre boil it before fry it you can use the potatoes mashed to do it’s as well am trying it for my husband dinner tomorrow I don’t have a Tostones crusher
Lol yummy AND if we want to Mexicanise we could call it ‘platanos refritos’ refryed plantin. Planting delicious whichever corner of the world we land. I must go cook and eat now. Tank yu
Thanks. I picked up 2 Plantain for my first experence with Plantanos.
I tried this with a single green Plantain. My first try was I could taste the salt - I must have used too much salt. I didn't taste much sweetness at all. BUT, it was an interesting experience. Now, I used our Fry Daddy and deep fried (in vegetable oil, Wesson Oil) the Plantain in the used oil we use for French Fries that maybe was the reason for little sweet taste.
I have one more Plantain that I am going let well ripen and try this for a second time. Looking for the sweet taste.
Ok so we use the green plantains for this recipe which are not sweet at all. The ripe ones cannot be pressed because they get soft when fried. tostones are different from fried ripe plantains
side ways me boy, dont try to change our language lol.respect man
Renaldo Soleyn nuff blessings me genna
I really love Ur narrative mate... It gave me a huge smile...thank u so much

Nice Bro I will try that recipe. Keep cooking .J food is very delicious. Thanks.

Wow, I had to pause the video and go get one of those pressers😁! I always had problems with them breaking up, so I'm excited! Oh, and it was under $10 at Walmart😉!
Thank you for showing your green -fried plantain video. I am going to try and see if I can find a Tostonera in the Los Angeles Latinos stores. I am used to using the banana skin and hand also but this seems to be much more work and it does not comes out as flat as when the Tostonera is used.
You will definitely find it in L.A. Thanks for watching.
Big ups mon!!! lmao I watched several videos about tostones which were also helpful but this video was most helpful!!! maybe because i also Jamaican and i understood everything right off the back!!! overall, thanks for everything
I will try this recipe later, love over ripe plantains, will this a try.
Greetings from the United States, I got ahold of some ripe plantains the other day, might get a tortilla press to smash them, then go through your steps of refrying them...yum!
Sounds great!
Thank you for all your tips! ❤Looks so good!!!
Those plantains look tasty and that tostonera seems quite handy
You know him a real Jamaican when he said contraption lol
I have to admit that Crusherer is a new one on me. Good job buddy I enjoyed it, now I'm going to go make me some now, and for the record, I will be using some wax paper to do my crushing on this particular Sunday morning, God bless!!
We call it PATACONES in Costa Rica and Chile. Made the same way. Big up ya self yardy ya dun kno!
En Colombia también…
Thank you so simple love green plaintains
I sprinkle with cinnamon and powder sugar. With the blackened plantains
you do that with the green ones? I thought that actually work with the ripe ones!!
@@YardieBelly no the green ones don't pair well with sugar.
@@nosmoke247 I figured as much!
I always see mommy use the bottom of a cup or bottle to press the plantains and I'm Jamaican always my mom would say pressed not crushed but these came out great.
Different methods same result. that's the good thing about home cooking, we do it how we can...
@@YardieBelly true
I have two green and two ripe (yellow-black) plantains... can I do this with both kinds?
This has to be made using the green plantains as the ripe ones will not become crispy because of the sugars in them.
You can't crush the sweet ones but you can definitely fry them too.
You can also fry the ripe plantains and they are a delicious sweet/savory side dish. Just fry them once. Add a little salt or not for taste. You can also make ripe plantain "lasagna". In Puerto Rico we call it Piñón. To make this you cut the ripe plantains along and fry them. Make some "picadillo" or stewed hamburger meat. Use the plantain strips as you would use pasta in lasagna. Create several layers. Some people put battered egg at the bottom to hold everything in place. At the top add shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese and put it in the oven till the cheese melts. The combination of sweet from the plantains and savory from the meat and cheese is delicious. You can find recipes under "Piñon" or "Pastelón de platano".
I would love one of those plantain crusherer right now. I’m refreshing my memory because I am cooking Jamaican food for my Japanese family today.

Wow, I’m a new subscriber February 5th 2019 USA 🇺🇸 Texas this looks yummy 🤤 Tfs until next time cheers 🥂
My friends wife wants me to make her a crusher. Would you please tell me the diameter and depth of the recess is in the bottom board. How thick are the crushed plantains? Thank you.
You can buy them at Walmart Rick. However if you want to make it still a regular peanut butter jar lid is a perfect template. The dept should be about less than a quarter inch deep. Hope I helped you some what. Thanks for watching my video.
Thank you for your responce. Just finished it today. I just like to make things. Had a real nice stainless steel piano hinge I used.
Yardie Belly TV ,

You should try airfrying it, sooooo delicious and healthy!!!! 😋

I LOVE your videos. Dem tun up and the comentary is awesome.
Where do you get the tostona presser ???
check in any Latin supermarket
where did you get your tostonera from, thanks :)
These are quick finds in Latin supermarkets in Florida, Presidente has it in my area of Miami
If you can't find a crushanator just use a little plate. Smile
What sauce would be great to eat this with?
It would be great with any kind of sweet sauce. Traditionally Jamaicans don't usually have it with a sauce..just some kind of meat staple or steamed veggies.
Love the love. Keep up the good work!
What are these eaten with after frying?
Jamaicans will have it with a number of different things, Ackee and Saltfish, Callaoo, Cabbage, etc. It's mainly used as breakfast but we don't care when we get it as long as we do... lol
I saw one lady use the bottom of a coffee mug to crush her plantains...I think I might do that seeing as though I don’t have a tostonera
It is available in most Latin stores Depending on where you are located.
where can I purchase a plantains crusher?
They are usually found in the Latin stores
amzn.to/2qTmdV7 I just got this link for the crusher!!
Thank You!!!
You can purchase them at any grocery store like Publix, any Spanish supermarket we'll also have them. If you live near a Bravo you can find it there they even have them in Walmart
Not crusher...It's called a crusherrer now😂😂😂
