3:03 nope - it won’t talk to anything you have connected to it. As for the MIDI section of this video - S61 mkII owner here - it’ll talk to your daw and Komplete Kontrol. That’s it. MIDI mode - note he said you can map in Komplete Kontrol and then quickly changed the subject. Hardware control though - honestly I’m not sure why they bothered putting midi ports on the back. It has one midi channel and there’s no way to map midi at all. It’s just a keyboard with aftertouch, a mod and pitch bend wheel. I had to buy a Novation SL mkIII which is now my main keyboard (and I own K13 CE). Right to ask the questions Nick, and I’m not going to say he was lying, but he skirted around the questions you asked. Should have said “oh midi - great! Here’s a hardware synth - show us how the keyboard’s built in arp works with it”. He’d have run off the set.
I was at Guitar center trying to find a controller for my Logic. Most controllers are really crappy cheap made plastic feels like an expensive toy for a three year old. This one has the best build, looks and feels and not to mention all the features that makes your work flow way more fun. Pre-ordered !

Its not too late for the 88 key version. 1. Add a least two faders (ON THE LEFT!) for us orchestral library users. Talk to ANY pro composer and they'll tell you the same. Tired of the KorgNANO, JLCooper, Behringer extras. Thats why I bought the MPK88. 2. Make it more solid. 3. Add more felt or something so the keys are less thumpy / noisy 4. (IMPORTANT) Work with the Vienna Symphonic guys to create a NKS passthrough for VE Pro 6.X. I'm missing all the helpful Kontakt stuff because the interface is inside VEPro on another computer.
Totally agree with you. 2 Faders on the left would be amazing. Also, the ability to use the NKS mappings in Kontakt without it having to be inside Komplete. We orchestral composers have massive templates with multiple patches per kontakt instance....so proper multitimbral support would be great too. A button where the pots switch to control volumes of patches inside an instance of kontakt would be good too.
Prefect? What a swot! Always had his nose in the books down at the library or bringing apples for Mrs. Tibbits the Geology teacher. No wonder you remember him, he's gone from level of perfection to the next. What a lucky Tim! 😂😂😂😂
I want native instruments to add better integration for other DAW's, like FL. You have to use the Mackie profile with the Kontrol M1 and it kinda sucks.
Curt Cadet i agree, but i’m pretty sure you can get almost perfect integration with FL if you manually configure midi mode yourself. the key is to map midi signals to keyboard shortcut combinations. i don’t think many people are aware of this. there’s a template floating around the web for integrating maschine mk2 with FL...You can find it in the IL forums. I assume you can achieve the same with this this controller. FL has a list of keyboard shortcuts in their manual online.
I am quite new to DAWs & controllers etc. If I understand it, you can address NI Komplete software, NKS instruments and external software instruments? Thus far, I only have the latter which of course I don't want to lose access to. I find it all pretty frustrating; I have Studio One and a Faderport 8. This NI keyboard is fully integrated with most of Studio One's rivals, but not with Studio One (yet). And the Faderport is only fully integrated with Studio One and not the others! It's like spinning plates and makes me want to go back and practice the piano...
Nice to see Roddy McDowall getting work after his successful acting career. Love him in the original Planet of the Apes series, but I think he will do great at Native Instruments. Good on ya Roddy! ;)
So Machine is a beats catalog, KK MK2 is a way of quickly navigating that catalog trying out ideas of pre-composed beats, which that then be arranged in Ableton. So Machine is like an instrument in its own right and the KK MK2 is just its User Interface. The key bit in this demo was how well KK and Able worked together.
I use the S61 MK1 with Studio One 3.5 and yes, the integration could be better, but with the Mackie Control template you can at least control some basic stuff. But I wouldn't dump the predecessor for the MK2.
I'm impressed by this board. This appears light years better than its predecessor. I also noticed that they got the wheels back. In the immortal words of Jan Hammer: "Don't dick with the wheel!"
The fact that it is the same price sold me, as I really expected it to be $100-$200 more expensive. The added features look great, and I'm hoping for an 88 key version
Is this possible to reverse keys on this device natively so i can play as left handed keyboard player with out going to other 3rd party solutions like i do now? Right now i use Boomes Midi Translator to do that but i wish I could do that internally on controller keyboard.
I play keyboard as you play but in reverse. I use Boome's Midi translator on my Mac to reverse MIDI for keys. But it would be nice if i can do that on my controller keyboard internally with out using computer. So i can control directly with this controller analog synthesizers. Ufortionaly my Novation 61 SL MK 2 cannot do it. So i am looking for a better controller keyboard.
This level of integration also works with Logic and GarageBand (in fact it's even easier…unlike the Ableton Live integration you don't have to install anything). Should also be working with Cubase and Nuendo by now (or soon).
I was looking for something akin to Karma lab program, where it is actually a musically creative tool. I wish someone would advance that idea further. This product looks like a good way to control Ableton with fewer mouse clicks which always helps.
What happens if you don't load the Komplete Kontrol in a certain channel? Instead, if you load a VST or native instrument from Ableton Live. Do the Keyboard screen and knobs work in that case?
yeah of course not. I really really don't get why NOBODY ON THIS PLANET creates a FULL SIZED MIDI CONTROLLER WITH POLYPHONIC AFTER TOUCH!!! it's a giant hole in the market.
Would like to see someone experimenting it with Reason 9.5. Just sold my Nektar P4. I'm using mostly Kontakt libraries at the moment and this might be a good way to get a smooth workflow.
Hello fellow produces is there anyway I can use my Maschine MK3 to control komplete kontrol software it's ridiculous having to use a mouse when I have a controller that looks like the komplete kontrol hardware
The complexity of the browser and daw-wiring is something ALL video editing manufacturers should take a look at. I think, Push, Maschine and these keys should be given some templates for FCPX, Adobe Premier etc. That would really speed up my work and they are all quite visual anyway. Too many animations and pictures rather distract me from making good sounds.
Can somebody please tell me why there isn't a decent keyboard controller on the market today which support: Polyphonic After touch? And I am not talking about that awkward ROLI keyboard or the little tiny plastic Xkey controllers. It really baffles me. In the 90's and 80's they were actually miles ahead in terms of after touch and keyboards if you ask me. The only keyboard that comes close is the Elka 88 weighted keyboard controller that has Poly pressure support ( i can't remember it's official name ). So sad!
Yes your right behind... FL Studio Ableton Live Cubase Logic Studio One Once your behind those major player your not very popular every music conversation/tutorial/DAW requirements.. Reaper never comes up
it never comes up because the bigger companies push & advertise their products constantly to make money and that's not what Reaper is about. It has it's own dedicated section in Soundonsound and that's saying something. Anyway I'm not going to argue with you, I think you'll find if you took the time to do your research you'd find it's very popular. There is no one 'best' DAW only the one that you find the best for your needs. Btw I'm not sure FL Studio is supported either.
so basically this wont work with flstudio which so many people use? seriously this even works with garage band and i have barely seen anyone use that in years
And do you think they would also have learned to include some freaking faders on the left empty surface (even some touch strip faders)??? Apparently not!... do we have to wait for the mk3 version now??
Well, then I won't be in the market for them... I'll pass, sorry! I'm not gonna waste my money on "unfinished" products. I'll wait until they come with the mk3, 4 or 5... that will be both with fader (or touch strips), large touchscreen display, pads and 76/88 keys. It's a free market after all, the best thing a consumer can do to be heard is to spend his/her money wisely!
Didn't expect it either, and it's straight up lift from Mosca - Bax, which is not a complaint, but impressive actually :) th-cam.com/video/s1jp94Psx18/w-d-xo.html
Harry Merchant I believe you are using the computer wrong. People like Mr Bill show us how slow hardware can be - you can't twitch faster than key/mouse once you got memory muscle, but this comes from a gamer mentality. If you have that background then it can't be beat. Like telling a typist that writing is faster, then it is if you are bad at typing - if you don't know your way around a keyboard or technique then you ain't going to be doing 95 words per minute.
So it looks like there is no 88 key version? The S88 has a full hammer keyboard - it is so great to play. Would be a real shame if you have to lower the standard of your keyboard to improve your workflow.
Hammer action keyboards are great, but they are not always needed for synth, organ parts, etc. The nice thing about the S49 is its size, and its highly playable semi-weighted Fatar keyboard.
If you have the S88 there is zero reason to replace it, it's great. I'm not a fan of Apple style "planned obsolescence" (actually I think it's immoral) and companies who try to force new hardware on users even when the current hardware works perfectly fine.
+Shake speare What world do you live in? It's common knowledge that Apple (and lots of other companies) deliberately limit their technology’s lifespan to boost sales. Apple releases a new iPhone every other quarter. They discourage users from upgrading individual computer components by closing cases with uncommon 5-point Torx screws (dick move). They upgrade software constantly, which of course makes old devices run more slowly, and sends a signal to users that it's time to upgrade. I'm an Apple user for decades, but there is literally hundreds of articles on this "planned obsolescence". economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10/31/planned-obsolescence-as-myth-or-reality/?mcubz=1
I don't doubt there is no love lost between NI and Ableton. I guess we'll never know exactly why NI plug in's run so poorly in Live. I am guessing it's Ableton writing them out of the equation to protect sales of their own Suite packages?
Why should they? They are barely overlapping in their product line, even the controllers are for complete different purposes. Ableton would be crazy if they write them out as the negative backfire could seriously harm their sales.
I’m still waiting for an iOS Komplete Kontrol client (essentially a touch based remote control for the application that will run on your mac or pc) and an ipad stand integrated into the keyboard. Would’ve made more sense than adding two non-touch screens imo. But NI’s track record for iOS and other touch portable platforms is poor, so I guess this is better than nothing.
Nick seems very sceptical to me when it comes to NI. Ive got the feeling hes a not to big fan of all them flashy lights n"scenes"concept of which he clearly had no idea of :) but he still showes interest and asks the right questions: and can you turn it off?! love you, nick
It's six years later and I still love my S49 Mk2! ❤

S R DHAIN I really liked that too.
someone needs to tell him that 'mk' is an abbreviation of 'Mark'
please don't forget to add Studio One as a DAW
Its not too late for the 88 key version. 1. Add a least two faders (ON THE LEFT!) for us orchestral library users. Talk to ANY pro composer and they'll tell you the same. I completely agree... I have the MPK61 and the keys feel better on that than my motif es6. Smh
HOLY SHIT !!! I used to go to school with Tim. He was a few years above me, but he was also a prefect. Small world :)

Curt Cadet editing it right lol

Love it and will replace my mk1 with it. It's tons of fun.
My Crumar Bit Midi Master Keyboard from 1986 still going strong :D And it has 6 octaves.
The manual for that is written in an amusing way too
Nice to see Roddy McDowall getting work after his successful acting career. Love him in the original Planet of the Apes series, but I think he will do great at Native Instruments. Good on ya Roddy! ;)
3:06 does it not work as well with Pro Tools DAW?
So Machine is a beats catalog, KK MK2 is a way of quickly navigating that catalog trying out ideas of pre-composed beats, which that then be arranged in Ableton. So Machine is like an instrument in its own right and the KK MK2 is just its User Interface. The key bit in this demo was how well KK and Able worked together.
Hey Native instruments the s49 and s61 can be used in Propellerheads Reason 10. Will the Komplete Kontrol work in Reason also ?
Yes!! Time for an upgrade. Where's the studio one support at ?
I use the S61 MK1 with Studio One 3.5 and yes, the integration could be better, but with the Mackie Control template you can at least control some basic stuff. But I wouldn't dump the predecessor for the MK2.
I'm impressed by this board. This appears light years better than its predecessor. I also noticed that they got the wheels back. In the immortal words of Jan Hammer: "Don't dick with the wheel!"
Why does it always have to be some completely mindless noise when they demo these things?
The fact that it is the same price sold me, as I really expected it to be $100-$200 more expensive. The added features look great, and I'm hoping for an 88 key version
You guys think we’re going to get a 88 version?
clayton jansen no
YESSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Yes
8:20 Is that preview mode going to be backwards compatible to the Kontrol MK1?
finally a controller that works well with Logic! I´m in love - gonna get both this and Mmk3
Do the transport controls work with Studio One? I have Pro Tools but it's not compatible. I'm looking into getting a more MIDI composer friendly DAW.
Maby for the mk3 and button to enable or disable preview sounds. u can scroll and if u think maby here you can enable it ?
my dream midi controller cv out, sequencer (like doepfer dark time), drum pad (like mpc), motorized fader (like mackie mcu pro), fatar key
Looks great. When is the full size 88 key keyboard coming out.
Today' it's released

This level of integration also works with Logic and GarageBand (in fact it's even easier…unlike the Ableton Live integration you don't have to install anything). Should also be working with Cubase and Nuendo by now (or soon).
It would be interesting to know if the S25 and S88 keyboards are going to get the MK2 upgrade treatment as well?
I like everything except for the price :-)
Perfect. Just must have.
I didn't know Danny Ainge was that into music, WOW.
I was looking for something akin to Karma lab program, where it is actually a musically creative tool. I wish someone would advance that idea further. This product looks like a good way to control Ableton with fewer mouse clicks which always helps.

Does anybody know when they'll release the S88 one?
John Smith really? 😅😅
What happens if you don't load the Komplete Kontrol in a certain channel? Instead, if you load a VST or native instrument from Ableton Live. Do the Keyboard screen and knobs work in that case?

Kudos Nick - totally poker faced when Gaz brought up "something big from NI" on the show yesterday :),
Does the semitone transpose buttons work in MIDI mode on this one?
Ima download it thanks for sharing!!

I guess they're so good you lose your faith, lol.

How would I enable the text to speech with this one?
Will future proofing your projects be harder with all those NKS plugins in there?

dont forget about FL StuDio native instrument
That's the only thing 😞😞
Hello fellow produces is there anyway I can use my Maschine MK3 to control komplete kontrol software it's ridiculous having to use a mouse when I have a controller that looks like the komplete kontrol hardware
How much do you think the mk3 and the mk2 is going to cost? :)
With all that open real estate to the right, they could've put drum pads like most other high end controllers.
then they would sell less Maschines!
Some people want somewhere to put other desktop devices on their board too, not everyone needs pads on their keyboard.
Where i can buy decksaver for KK 61s Mk2?
The complexity of the browser and daw-wiring is something ALL video editing manufacturers should take a look at.
