    The big drawback for me on NI keyboards are the clicky function keys. I do a lot of late night recording and had to get rid of my MK2, because was too loud for my kids sleeping in the next room. Just listen to them in this video.

    Beautiful screen, but NI saying they won’t update this to integrate with Maschine sucks. I am pondering buying a Maschine and would love this keyboard. But the fact it’ll just be a generic midi controller and that screen will go to waste sucks. Also no pads on a $750+ keyboard is kinda crazy

    • @GodzillaGoesGaga
      @GodzillaGoesGaga 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What integration do you need. Maschine usually plays well with their keyboards. I have Maschine mk3 and an A61 and I can trigger Maschine notes from my A61. Pretty sure you could do the converse if you setup the Midi correctly. I use logic too but usually just Maschine s/w when working in the NI framework.

    So can you use the knobs to control a logic stick plug in? Like have it control a filter knob or oscillators or something like that? Or are all the controls strictly for native instruments

      Any VST that supports NKS2 can be controlled via the keyboard’s knobs without having to map (Arturia for example). Unfortunately, Logic stock instruments require mapping. However, NI seems to have strong developer relations with Apple so who knows what could happen in the future?

    I like that keyboard without any drum pads. The clean, minimal look is super cool.

    • @LoryKohn
      @LoryKohn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      One bonus of that no-pads layout is it gives you some real estate to place your mouse; otherwise you have to put it somewhere way out wide.

      Add Maschine to your setup and you have everything. Maschine is a great instrument but it is deep and you really need to take time to learn it!

  • @JeffyG
    @JeffyG 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    No chance of pads in the future. NI sells Maschine as a separate device, and are not likely to abandon that sales strategy and revenue.

    • @pierrebroccoli.9396
      @pierrebroccoli.9396 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah - just grab a Maschine Micro Mk3 and you get the best of both worlds - Pads and a capable keyboard. No need to go fully fledged with Maschine Mk3 unless you are a beat producer - per say and you like the Maschine software environment. I would assume one can do similar slicing etc with the keyboard with the controls given and the screen it has.

    This is a MIDI controller which cannot yet make custom templates. You are stuck with just the one 'default' template. You also cannot send MIDI from the MIDI out socket when the USB is connected to a computer. Not only that, but you cannot change the MIDI channel from the hardware.
    None of the helper scale, chord arp function operate outside Komplete Kontrol. Nearly all functionality is locked to the NI software.

      I'm sure the keyboard is independent of the MAC, so your MAC simply needs to be compatible with whatever DAW and Komplete Kontrol software, etc you would normally use. It means the keyboard is now a CONTROLLER for NKS instruments and plug-ins.

    Help me understand. This thing costs $749 and still requires a computer in order to do anything?
    The Yamaha MX49, which can still be connected to a computer for MIDI, is now selling for $519 at Sweetwater and can operate on its own. (You would need an amp, headphones, or external speakers, but you won't need a computer.)
    The Roland Go: Keys 5 is $499 and even has built-in speakers to go with its fantastic built-in sounds. And, guess what -- it can be connected to a computer as well. It has an additional octave of keys and can be operated on batteries if necessary if you want to perform in a place with no place to plug in.
    I know this thing looks kind of slick, but it doesn't seem like a great value.
    If I am buying something that is just a MIDI controller, I would expect it to be cheap as chips. There are 49-key MIDI controllers for $150 or so.

I really don't know what to do, as I am a native instruments user and I have most of their plug-ins and it would be amazing to be able to control them that easily other than be able to tweak my DAW mixer and transport controls!!! other than having the guiding lights to help me out with scales etc.. on top of that it looks sexy! I am suffering! ahahah HELP!

      None of the Yamaha or Roland keys you mention have DAW Kontrol (Logic, Ableton, etc). Only basic midi - sending notes. No control over NI Komplete instruments, sounds or FX. No other keyboards have polyphonic aftertouch. Now….if none of that matters to you, no worries. As a composer I need all those controls and integration in my studio to be effective. Hope that helps.
