One thing that is not shown often is that with the LGV30 by pressing the volume button in a certain way you get it into a NOTEPAD mode, if you happens to want to use this feature as most people would with the NOTE 8 pen - for taking notes on the go, just carry a pen with a tip for cellphones! LIFE IS GOOD ;-)

Sami Bari You should said that it's MIL-STD-810G. That means it's drop and shock resistant, solar radiation resistant and salt resistant. It's also IP68 water and dust resistant. So basically you have a rugged phone with a stunning design.
I know, but the V30 won't come to any of the major Scandinavian carriers. Telia-Sonera, YouSee, Telenor etc. have all said they won't get it. Just as they did not take in the V20, V10 og the G6 or G5. Most carriers stopped selling the LG topmodels because they don't sell. The phones that do okay or well are iPhone, Samsung and Huawei - especially Huawei did really well in 2016.
I bought an LG V30S via B&H PhotoVideo yesterday for $599. It was a two-day sale. I watched all the videos about this phone on YT and they all convinced me that this is a phone worth a hefty price. It's nice to see reviewers take on the LG V30 phone. Most every other reviewer goes with iPhone or Samsung and ignores all the other good phones out there. So kudos to Android Authority. I currently use an LG Sensa Lite as my primary phone and have been pleased for the year I've had it. I bought it for a mere $129 figuring I'll use it until I can afford a Samsung S9 (because the camera alone is worth it). While the pictures aren't as good as my Samsung S6 (which I use strictly as a camera), the long battery life is great when you're out hiking in the wilderness all day.
I've never owned a note before and on my 2nd year environmental science undergrad. the s-pen is what I'm after. for anyone in university. trust me when I tell you that you need the s pen.

I'm glad you started with the disclaimer prior to review, because all the things you mentioned were all basically opinions. Some people will like the cam on the v30 others the note 8. I'm heavily leaning towards the LG V30, but I am worried. Although the camera specs are amazing, all the samples i have seen so far are very disappointing. Dull images, still noisy in low light, and terrible video stabilization (isnt it supposed to have ois??). I know all the samples so far are pre-release and not final software, but it really does concern me how bad the quality is this close to release. I really hope it's improved by the time it's released as this is the phone that checks all the boxes for me.
I got the v20 for the rave camera reviews but have yet to produce many images I'm crazy about, though you could perhaps chalk that up to my lack of understanding of the camera. Wide angle is nice, however.

It's early January 2018 and I picked up my V30 from AT&T about a week ago. I have been an LG guy forever even in spite of the G4 and V10 bootloop issue that I saw. I sell cell phones for a living and have access to everything. It was an easy decision because I really do enjoy LG and all the many features that they put on their phones. If you are a media person than this phone is for you but even if you're not there are so many special touches that LG has put on this phone that it makes it the most underrated phone this year. In spite of some of these comments you definitely do notice the difference with the Hi-Fi quad DAC. And picture taking is amazing. Also the LGV30 is one of the only phones where the manufacturer is offering a full year full 2 year warranty on the phone. (They also did this for the G6.)
Rex Luminus The Samung Galaxy Note 8 is better than the LG V30 because it has a larger body than that of the LG meaning it is easier to navigate the screen and don't forget the s pen. The s pen just adds so much more ease of use and makes it so easy to create a note and the curved edge is better because you can use it to quickly open any app that you desire and don't forget the battery life the note 8 has a larger battery than the LG V30 and the super Amoled screen is very high quality and samsung unlike LG have the technology and capacity to mass produce the iPhone X screens but LG needs funding from Apple which is probably wasting a lot of money Samsung's display is so vibrant and is just better overall samsung have been in the super amoled game far longer than LG I'm not sorry that Samsung is better than LG in Every way btw I like Samsung

600Hz bandwidth compatible for certain carriers is a big plus with the LG V30, that and I have a V20 now and love it. Yeah I'm not happy with the non removable battery, but I can deal. What I don't get is the lack of an IR Blaster, like why? It's so useful on my V20.

I miss the argument of the point zoom, which is zooming into a specific point smoothly, and apparently even if you move the camera... That's a neat feature too.
At this point, excluding the new iPhone's (which are a major flop), deciding between flagship phones is pure nitpicking - the obvious exception being price. 1) Hi-Fi DAC - audiophiles aside, does anyone actually care about this? I've never had an issue with sound quality from any of my phones.. 2) Fingerprint sensor - given any phone has a brief learning curve, I seriously doubt the note8 placement will bother anyone once they've used it for a bit. 3) CineLog/CineVideo - This has such a niche appeal. Anyone who is being honest with themselves knows they will use less than a fraction of the features it offers, making it effectively no better than any other flagship camera offerings. 4) This is again a very personal choice, and for me personally I can count on one hand the amount of times I wish I had a wide angle les, as opposed to the plethora of times I wished I had optical zoom. Overall I think it's a pretty poor list of reasons, with cost being the only real reasonable one. Everything else either has extremely niche appeal, or is personal preference (and not better or worse).
When Samsung told me I couldn't have more memory or when my battery went bad I couldn't buy another battery without their help of removing it. Which they ended up having huge battery issues. The irony lol. I switched to the LG V10. Affordable price and great performance. Now two years later owning an LG V10 I will be getting the V30. I cant wait for the launch of this phone! Best priced flagship phone by far.
I just got my hands on the V30 prototype and I feel like you didn't cover how absolutely awesome the manual camera is. I know you covered the dual camera and LG users know how awesome the manual camera is but it's THAT much better with AF added in. Imo it makes the iPhone 7 plus camera look straight up Beta and amateur. The quality is truly outstanding. 👌
I agree they should've improved the front facing camera, especially considering the original V10 had Dual front facing cameras. Manufactures tend to miss out on common pain points like battery and front-facing camera. I mean, it doesn't take that much to improve it. Especially when you're paying like $800 plus, might as well go ALL the way out. People say it's not a relevant feature, but then there's Snapchat and Instagram with selfie still and video overload. Otherwise, the V30 is SUPER DOPE!

Guys. The difference between low light performance of f1.6 to f1.8 is so minuscule. I use a dslr and my favorite f stop is from 1.8 to 2.5. Any less than 1.8 is really difficult to control.
I have the V20 and the wide angle camera is very useful and takes great pictures! Also Love the removable battery and ir-blaster. I do miss the oled screens from Samsung and the S-pen though. Damn shame can not get a New Note with a removable battery or an LG V30 for that matter!

Since when has beta software been deemed as release software? Certainly you don't judge the latest Android release off of the developer previews.

You can try Manual mode bec. This mode is perfect for low light. I always got fantastic photo from my lg g6 with using manual mode.

I dont trust lg or google. Always have cool design phones but poor perfomance. If you have the phone for a while you start to realize bugs and annoying issues.
It's early January 2018 and I picked up my V30 from AT&T about a week ago. I have been an LG guy forever even in spite of the G4 and V10 bootloop issue that I saw. I sell cell phones for a living and have access to everything. It was an easy decision because I really do enjoy LG and all the many features that they put on their phones. If you are a media person than this phone is for you but even if you're not there are so many special touches that LG has put on this phone that it makes it the most underrated phone this year. In spite of some of these comments you definitely do notice the difference with the Hi-Fi quad DAC. And picture taking is amazing. Also the LGV30 is one of the only phones where the manufacturer is offering a full year full 2 year warranty on the phone. (They also did this for the G6.)

I was an LG guy since the G3 to the V10 but always had problems with the software! I switched to the Korean S8+ but this V30 looks great!

LG V30, Galaxy S8+, or Note 8. iPhones cost too much and still have inferior design and features...said by the 6 year iPhone user who last month ditched his 7 Plus for the Galaxy S8+ and loving it. I like what I've seen so far of the V30. Interested to see what Pixel 2 will have too.

In the past Nokia and Sony didn't consider Samsung as their competitor, now you know what happened to both of then. At this point, excluding the new iPhone's (which are a major flop), deciding between flagship phones is pure nitpicking - the obvious exception being price.
1) Hi-Fi DAC - audiophiles aside, does anyone actually care about this? I've never had an issue with sound quality from any of my phones..
2) Fingerprint sensor - given any phone has a brief learning curve, I seriously doubt the note8 placement will bother anyone once they've used it for a bit.
3) CineLog/CineVideo - This has such a niche appeal. Anyone who is being honest with themselves knows they will use less than a fraction of the features it offers, making it effectively no better than any other flagship camera offerings.
4) This is again a very personal choice, and for me personally I can count on one hand the amount of times I wish I had a wide angle les, as opposed to the plethora of times I wished I had optical zoom.
Overall I think it's a pretty poor list of reasons, with cost being the only real reasonable one. Everything else either has extremely niche appeal, or is personal preference (and not better or worse).
I currently have the LG V20 so upgrading to the V30 is definitely happening. Thanks for providing great info, as always!

When Samsung told me I couldn't have more memory or when my battery went bad I couldn't buy another battery without their help of removing it. Which they ended up having huge battery issues. The irony lol. I switched to the LG V10. Affordable price and great performance. Now two years later owning an LG V10 I will be getting the V30. I cant wait for the launch of this phone! Best priced flagship phone by far.

I just got my hands on the V30 prototype and I feel like you didn't cover how absolutely awesome the manual camera is. I know you covered the dual camera and LG users know how awesome the manual camera is but it's THAT much better with AF added in. Imo it makes the iPhone 7 plus camera look straight up Beta and amateur. The quality is truly outstanding. 👌
I agree they should've improved the front facing camera, especially considering the original V10 had Dual front facing cameras. Manufactures tend to miss out on common pain points like battery and front-facing camera. I mean, it doesn't take that much to improve it. Especially when you're paying like $800 plus, might as well go ALL the way out. People say it's not a relevant feature, but then there's Snapchat and Instagram with selfie still and video overload. Otherwise, the V30 is SUPER DOPE!

Guys. The difference between low light performance of f1.6 to f1.8 is so minuscule. I use a dslr and my favorite f stop is from 1.8 to 2.5. Any less than 1.8 is really difficult to control.
I have the V20 and the wide angle camera is very useful and takes great pictures! Also Love the removable battery and ir-blaster. I do miss the oled screens from Samsung and the S-pen though. Damn shame can not get a New Note with a removable battery or an LG V30 for that matter!
