I liked both movies. I was especially impressed with Jane Krakowski as Betty, Betty should be sexy. I also love the musical ending, which I'm shocked no one has posted on TH-cam.
He was great but props have to given to the rest of the cast. Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis, & Rosie O’Donell ( despite being a bit curvy to play the trim Betty) were terrific. You can’t forget reformed villainess Halle Berry and sly executive Kyle Maclanahan. Finally what about the always fabulous Ms Elizabeth Taylor? I’m biased because I’ve played a lot of supporting roles on stage. Therefore I like it when those who aren’t the leads get credit too.
The second move was… okay. It was definitely a lot more hokey than the first one. The first movie was amazingly awesome. The second one had a “direct to home video” vibe.
To be fair, Goodman didn't want to do The Flintstones. He only did the movie because, he owed Spielberg a favour. Rick Moranis would have turned down the role because, he wouldn't do it without John Goodman. The whole recast made sense due to two main actors not wanting to do a prequel.

IMO the casting of Rosie O'Donnell as Betty in the first movie was not a good choice. It should have been Marisa Tomei. Not only does she physically resemble the iconic wife of Barney Rubble and best friend of Wilma Flintstone, she also has the ability to project her lovable, bubbly personality that Ms. O'Donnell strived for but didn't succeed with. Other than that, everyone else was perfectly cast with John Goodman as Fred, Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma, and especially the underappreciated Rick Moronis as Barney.
The writing was a bigger problem than the casting. It was basically a cliched romantic comedy in the Flintstones universe. I wasn't fond of it as a kid but as an adult, it's pure cringe. The first movie's plot was a bit serious for kids but overall, it adapted the cartoon nicely.
John Goodman is sooo annoying in this movie. I prefer all the new cast in Viva Rock Vegas except for Rosie. Rosie is amazing in The Flinstones. But then again, she is amazing in every movie.
I think Stephen Baldwin's impression of Barney was dead-on. It's the only nice thing I have to say about the prequel.
