I was 7 years old when he recorded this. Hated jazz all my life. Now I’m 44 and sitting in the garden on a summer evening, surrounded by cats, drinking an old whiskey with an old smokie. Lovely.
Do you drink a lot of alcohol ? 44 is way too young to be in the blues 😢
Never too late to be a hypocrite if it corrects a mistake...age doesn't matter,Lisa Simpson listen to this and she's 8...cheers
35, life long rap and metal head, definitely getting that jazz (as well as soul, motown, funk, etc) itch. Binging Bosch didn't help haha

i love how people find it impossible for you to have lived before the late 80s
Im currently studying for my IB math exams. My exam is tomorrow and i haven't studied. My dear friend Andrew Steven Chavez believes I am as how the youth would say "cooked". But I say this right now to you my friend Mr. S Chavez if you would happen to come across this comment. Andrew, I love life. Im glad im living. Although I haven't studied to a full and responsible extent, I still believe that I will do great on my exam. I am not a man of faith but I do consider myself catholic, and all i can say Steven that somehow someway I will be successful. I love you and everyone who has come across my long and sometimes short journey we call life.
WOW alex! I hope this message finds you well. I had a similar situation years ago, in 1994 to be exact. All I can say is that your friend Steve is wrong. You will do great. Best of success, because luck is no good. Luck is saying you have the possibility of being successful but also having the possibility of failing. So once I again I wish you success. Best wishises, all love- Koji Kraft😁😁

How about the exam?!?

My favorite jazz artist. I remember he would be all i would listen to back when i was into opioids. The two was a perfect marriage. I still chill out to Chet at night after a couple hits of cannabis
You just know that Haruki Murakami was in the audience for this performance...brilliant stuff, I could listen to it all day.
this gave me chills to read this XD
Wow ,that's great !.. I feel sorry for missing the Chet Baker days of jazz because of my age..I born at 10th may 1988 ,and 3 days later Chet Baker died ..

It's amazing to me how good Chet Baker was late in his life. His talent never faded. Some of these late recordings, like this one, are just superb.

Easily one of the finest concerts in recorded history. Late era Chet is such a treat.
If it wasn't for Chet's persistence there would have been no late era Chet. He got his teeth knocked out, usually that's the end of the line for a horn blower... And so he's the only trumpet player in history I know of that came back from that... Just by learning to play, all over again, without the support of his teeth. Most give up at that point. And Chet almost did.. Glad he didn't..
indubitably
so, so easily
He did get a set of dentures eventually and, as you say, he learned to play all over again. I believe he was off the scene for a few years, even found work in a gas station for a bit. But in concert he never lost his way.
In the last year of his life, still pitch perfect.
I didn't realize that. Wow. thanks for the tip-bit. Agreed - didn't miss a beat. Still great.
My favourite concert of all time.......and I have listened to many over 60 years !!!
Yeah, this is real jazz, man
Sorry but any legitimate favorite concert of all time requires Ella to be singing.

Imagine living in Tokyo, Japan 1987, listened to Chet Baker's one of the last few live performances….
Eso, muy bien. Y ahora serías viejito y estarías para el arrastre. Deseando haber nacido en el año 2000.
I did live there, went to this concert with my then boyfriend. Japan was right in an euphoric high of crazy bubble economy..

I grew up with Chet's music us kids, as we were then, were listening to this music, rather than what the next and present generation listen to today. Still, some kids are now discovering him on TH-cam and appreciating. Thank you Chet, wherever you are, I'm 87 now and still listen to the magic you left the world to enjoy. ❤❤

There is jazz and there is Chet, I was lucky enough to see him 3 times in Barcelona and one at R onnie´s scotts in London, he is rare, unique, unlike most jazz players he does not show off with long solos, he just conveys his feelings, this concert was superb because his musicians understood Chet, Harold danko played like Chet .not a note more than necessary, the bass player and drummer just the same. This is Jazz and not the music labelled as jazz which nowadays flow. music today is really mediocre, but thanks God we still have Chet´s lps to enjoy. Greetings from down south Barcelona to all music lovers that still know what good music is. keep on listening to lps.
I wouldn't say it's mediocre, people still convey their emotions through music in beautiful ways however it has evolved from the "golden age" of jazz into a modern form for a modern society. Now it's more common to show off your skills than show off your feelings. That's just what I've found in modern jazz though, and that's not to take away from the cats today that stick to more traditional expression and truly play what they feel.
@@willbrinkert0032 Showing off one's skills impresses the young, mostly. When I was a teen I was blown away by Maynard Ferguson. But now, his stuff all sounds the same to me and seems to lack depth.
Where in Barcelona you saw him? I’m curious because I’m born and raise there and I wonder which places hosted such a talented musician
I'm glad you mentioned the rhythm section, because they are all excellent players who support Chet perfectly and are brilliant soloists in their own right.
Took a while, but I get it now. Thank you, Mr Baker.
Me hace sentir tan bien... Tan suave tan elegante.... Es una joya ❤

Nice chill pace. A lot of times jazz or classical is too busy or doesn't fit the mood you're looking for to relax in the background. This does, its just right to sooth my mind.
That's the perfect description - soothing
Try to relax good and true friend... all will be prepared and administered by May - all costs have been met and an additional amount has been placed in you're bank accout to keep things ticking over. May is the expected month, then accompanied with future vaccination thereafter, personalised medicine can take a time more than one might wish were the case. A full recovery and genetic age reverse will be underway then. My promise is true... No, no, you can't. It's impossible, I swear it. I've looked into it. Listen to me, listen to me! There are things in there, there's a tea-bag growing! You haven't slept in sixty hours, you're in no state to tackle it. Wait till the morning, we'll go in together. Warm, thankful and loving regards... HU.

Just awesome 😮❤
Best version of "Almost Blue". Unfortunately it's not on the "Let´s Get Lost" soundtrack.
What can one say about Chet Baker, the master creator of jazz to listen to. Truly the ultimate music to immerse yourself in - bar none! Can talk endlessly about his virtuosity of trumpet playing and singing, the airy compositions, but the one feeling that I want to mention is sadness. No-one else can quite create the feeling of pain, from where true art comes. To the uninitiated, a cursory reading of his life will set the backdrop of what you hear. His catalog of music over 50 years has always had an undertone of sweet sadness. Beautiful and yes, uplifting music!
So well said! The ultimate music to immerse yourself in… the airy compositions… the sweet sadness! That’s Chet Baker.
Elliott Smith strikes me as similar, in tone anyway. But with more bitter sarcasm, whereas Chet was kind of forthright and heartbroken sounding.
@@ceef8688 That's an interesting comparison - one I would not have got myself! Yes that is true in a way: Elliott's music is beautiful yet dark and dense, whereas to me Chet's music has a sweet sadness, uplifting and comforting..
@@christobit494 yes very true. Chet is way more comforting, whereas Elliott can use even his sense of humor to bum you out

This recording is AMAZING. Chills. What a master. TY so much!
The best version of Almost Blue I've ever heard. And I've heard him sing it many, many times. He was magic on this night.
The manner in which there was no separation between the man and the will toward increasingly attaining the honest moment of music creation staggers. His entire existence was in its service, including the ugly, the brutal, and the unrequited. The man was always and forever a courageous meteoric streak across the heavenly pure, unadulterated space of forever. Always do learn anew when in his thrall, deriving so much joy in tandem from the power of his gift executed with mindfulness. Chesney Henry Baker from the Oklahoma plains of the Redman's territory makes me want to live, though I know not to what inconrestable degree he suffered, far beyond whatever is humanly conscionable. A humble American icon of unfathomable beauty and grace in the annals of the great American songbook that sought to bring America's most original art form to new, distinguished heights within the outcry that bespoke the oppression inherent to its surging crest. Rest in peace, sweet prince. How I love and adore you in the infinity of my heart and soul.
I love him too but for Pete's sake...we're not talkin Jesus with a bugle whoever u are and wherever u are on the spectrum of lucidity with the help of trace levels if not copious amounts of suspected psilocybin ingestion...but yes I love the tracks and I dig Chet on my worst day but I don't know about his
@donjayroe1745 You are obviously not a musician. Chet Baker was one of the greatest instrumentalist/vocalists in the history of American jazz music, the singularly most original art form to which this country has given birth --- in the annals of which Chet Baker was nothing short of a consummate icon.
U obviously don't know the meaning of the blues if u don't know bakers story. To frame him in the context of his innocence, well, that's one of the most erroneous things I've heard as of late. He was a virtuoso musician. I love baker. I play jazz piano and trained classical. Yes he was an icon and a total weasel when it came to drugs. They can be separate u know. Stop being a one ot the other type of person....it's annoying and an old becoming an old shtick in our culture
Don't talk to me about Chet baker, Baker and Nina simone we're my bread and butter as a music listener growing up and any car ride over 10 minutes
Part of the cancel culture u are when attempting to communicate. When really the canceling is mainly being done out of embarrassment of the conscience subconsciously becoming aware that they themselves could and should and statistically speaking will find themselves being canceled in some damaging capacity, be it of great or small nature
