I miss seeing documentaries like this on TV. One used to see programs like this on the Discovery channel as well as Nat Geo Wild. It is very disappointing that we can no longer see programming like this on these TV channels.
But you get 'reality TV shows.' Like bigfoot hunting, aliens and ghosts!

My dad stepped on a stone fish in Thailand in the late 1960s, while in the Army. He got very sick and said it was incredibly painful, but survived it, thanks to a local woman who knew what nailed him and rushed him to a US military hospital.

I always forget how entertaining thes Nat Geo videos are. Also very interesting to learn about how weird fish are and all the crazy things they have developed over millions of years. I just watched a 45 minute video about fish and I do not regret it.

Glad to see they had the Orca on this list. They're the top predator on the planet (besides us) but generally leave us alone unless the pod decides to get playful or they already know us. They're VERY careful when swimming near us though.
They bat around live seals like toys 👹
@@SaltyCupcake123 yep incredible how powerful they are. also for their size they're incredibly fast swimmers able to maintain 30 mph speeds for long distances. they frolic in boat wakes. super smart too. and they need to be released worldwide from captivity like yesterday.

the crew of National Geographic Wild is to be warmly congratulated for these wonders that they show us. I wonder how they can be at the right place and the moment for filming in live all these deadly creatures putting themselves in every day danger especially in the deeps. very close videos from deeply under, from above and among the most dangerous creatures with no chance to escape. these documentaries are better than the most famous blockbusters. thank you Nat Geo
A lot of wildlife documentaries are filmed by the crew deliberately putting two animals next to each other and filming it to see what happens. They basically set up the whole thing to make it more likely.
this was fascinating. It's really interesting to see how ocean creatures hunt/ambush their prey. I wish cable tv had more like this. And people wonder why I stream instead of watching cable!
I completely agree with you. Channels like the History Channel, Discovery, and National Geographic’s used to showcase tons of educational and entertaining programs. Now it’s all fabricated B.S. RealityTV. It’s almost as if the Big-Wig Execs in charge of these channels are doing everything in their power to not educate the public by airing subpar Tv shows.

It's awesome how you can show how every species can hunt their prey.
After diving for years I finally gave it up. I met just one too many deadly residents of that wilderness. I may go for a short snorkel in a group but that's it. I rarely even swim in the ocean anymore. Just too dangerous.

I knew little about the sea and I am glad I check youtube and see for myself. I am planning to have my first dive and these would be a good safety guide.
It’s not so much the voltage that you have to worry about, it’s the amperage that will kill you. A van de graff generator can zap you with up to 10,000,000 volts but with thousandths of a milliamp (0.0000001 amps) it’s not lethal. While a standard outlet of 120 volts at 2-3 milliamps can be fatal.

I Like Nat-Geo Wild because its so Fun yet so informative. It kinda ruined my beach day tho.
After diving for years & loving it my wife said she gave it up because of the ridiculous numbers of innocent looking but, highly venomous things she kept running into that could kill her just by touching her. She said she just got tired of being on edge every second & trying not to be killed. In fact, most sharks were the least of her worries. It was everything else she had to watch out for on top of the bull sharks, tiger sharks, great whites, longimanus & other shark species, etc...

Utterly out of context... I have been diving for 20 over years and probably the only thing that you really have to worry about are box jelly fish , that is however seasonal and always keep a lookout. If you learn to have good bouyancy control and not touch anything then essentially there is nothing to worry about. like anything in nature know their habitats and respect the environment. having said that people die in car accidents everyday, drunk drivers , speeding etc etc.... i bet your wife will still happly get in a car and drive or just be in a car full stop.

It's a very dangerous and chaotic killer be killed environment and orcas and sharks have humans that will pray on them either for sport or for resources but yes you are correct if we are going to nitpick my comment those are the most equipped to survive

Hy hedge trimmer, (first one I bought), looks like a saw fish, and a duck billed platypus with the plastic slide on cover on the blade(s).
I don't know about the hedge trimmer, but it is true that a lot of good stuff we developed were inspired by wild nature.
Velcro for example, was inspired by those "burrs" that stick to your pant leg if that plant is in the field you walked through.

Millions of people swim in the oceans across the world every year. There's an average of 7 shark attack fatalities per year. In shark attacks, divers/snorkelers are only about 4% of those , surfing/board sports accounted for 51%, swimmers/waders 39%. Of that diver/snorkeler category, snorkelers were about half.
Sport scuba diving is relatively safe, but there can be many dangers if not careful, arterial air embolism, decompression sickness, contaminated air, nitrogen narcosis, equipment malfunction, strong currents, an out of air event, boat props, and a few others, shark attack ranks about the very lowest of a diver's concerns.
In my 45 years of diving, I've encountered quite a few different shark species over much of the world, they're fascinating creatures.
No one knows what goes on in the ocean at night. Predators are predators no matter what that’s how they survive but, deep,deep,deep,deeply down in the ocean where no one has been, how you think they survive, because they’re predators down there guaranty. Most of us believe or claims to seeing a flying object. Why can’t believe that there is someone or something that lives deeply in the ocean. We where able, and when i say WE i mean the USA did what no one has done ever in the world and that was to go to the moon, not only go, land on it and walk on it but, we can’t go to see or even walk into the deepest part of the ocean. That I CAN NOT BELIEVE and that IS MY BELIEVE

However I’m thankful for all the trials and tribulations because they made me the strong woman I am today . Life is beautiful despite the rough days ...smile and press forward because it could be worse.

I've lived on the Gulf of Mexico all my life. I was taught as a child it could anything in the water when you get in it. People must always understand that sharks and many other deadly creatures are ALWAYS out there. Noboby talks about it but bull sharks swim miles up rivers and bayous killing.
Bull sharks are the deadliest. We even have them in Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans.
They are in the fresh water rivers when mating, coming in from the oceans in Australia.

Bull sharks have been found as far north in the Mississippi as Illinois. Yes, they can live in salt or freshwater. They often have their pups in freshwater so they don't as easiIy end up as prey.
