Hey from the UK! My daughter has just turned 6 and loves to watch youtube, so naturally she's right in the target demographic for some of the 5-minute-crafts troom-troom type crap, and I always talk to her about stuff she sees online, obviously, so she knows what's real and what's not, and I encourage skepticism, but I was absolutely delighted to find TH-cam actually recommended one of YOUR videos to her as an autoplay from a 5 minute crafts video she was watching! Not only that but she loves your series just as much as she enjoys the troom troom style stuff, she says it's really interesting seeing the hack videos but it's also really interesting seeing them tested. Love her. Anyways thought you'd like to know :) FB's officially promoting you on the hack videos, now.

Hi-ho all!✨🤗✨ Ms Reardon (Mrs. Reardon? - love how you "force" hubby to be your guinea pig - hee hee), I want you to know that this-here 70+ years "Old-fart" started following your channel a few months back. As I was searching about for things I might be interested in here on 'You Tube', I saw THIS video I am now commenting on. Well, as soon as I saw the info regarding your 'new' cookbook, PLUS THE CONTEST, I went to Amazon to get the book. I just LOVE getting cookbooks from folks I truly admire and trust regarding the info shared by them, and YOU are one of THE BEST! Sadly for yours truly here, I found the contest WAY over already (CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS - YEA YOU! 😁). But honestly, as much as I can use a nice set of knives in the kitchen (I wore mine out a while back and just can't aford the money for a GOOD set; heck, not even ONE of the better Chef's Knives out there. sigh But I truly mostly just care that I FOUND your wonderful cookbook. YEA ME! Any who, I can just keep sharpenning my trusty 'RADA' knives my mama gave me about thirty years ago... lol. I have the bread, paring and what I think is a boneing knife. WOW! All three have been sharpenned SO much that about HALF of what was there in front of the handles is gone!!! 🤣 Well, the bread knife is almost all there still. This channel is like a bright light shining the way to truthfulness for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH for what you bring to my video absorbing brain!!! You and your hubby are THE BEST. Wishing you all the best from across 'the pond', from here in Adams, MA. Oh, I have gotten SEVEN others to follow the channel - had to threaten two of 'em. ;-)
It’s not a hack if it takes more effort to do the “hack” than to just...cut the strawberries with a cutting board and knife. God bless Ann for these videos.
My same thought process when seeing the potato "hack." Honestly a good knife does the job of most of these cooking hacks. Not to meantion, both easier and faster.
Epic Gardening does a similar thing to Ann w/ these content farms and he has 3 things that make a good hack 1) cheaper than conventional methods 2) easier/faster than conventional methods 3) works for the person/space. If it's not all three than it might be a fun/cute project but it's not a 'hack' (for food you could probably swap out 'good' with 'safe')

I just want to say I really love your channel. The good hack with the strawberries in a glass container is one I told my Dad about. My Dad really loves blackberries and raspberries, and he used to just keep them in the container they came in. I noticed that the berries would often rot or grow some mold after a time. Once I told him about it we tried it out, and now the berries last much longer, he can enjoy them longer and doesn't have to buy as many as often. No matter what we keep them in sealable, glass containers. So thank you Ann Reardon. Your channel is really helping people, unlike the ones you debunk every day. Hope you keep doing these wonderful things!
Also on top of that, 90% of the time you're not dealing with parasites when cooking the meat but bacteria, otherwise your rare steak would be a bit more lively than you'd expect...

It doesn't need to be a glass jar Just put them in an airtight plastic container with a lid .l've been doing this for a least 40 years. Sigh The main thing is don't hull or wash strawberries till a short while before eating, and keep cool. But they should be room temperature to eat, otherwise they tend to be flavourless

Since watching this video, I've done that hack to preserve strawberries for a bit longer when strawberries are in season and I can't eat them all immediately. Strawberries tend to go off really quickly on their own. Very useful.
Yeah! Doesn't need to be glass, any airtight container will work as long as you don't wash the strawberries. Microbes in food generally need four things to grow - heat, oxygen, water, and the food itself - and by doing that you're dramatically reducing the three that you can affect. A simple understanding of microbes will carry you far in life.
The strawberry and Razor blade one made me feel physically ill. That is so incredibly dangerous. I can just imagine someone doing it and then serving the Strawberries with one Razor blade still hidden inside. *shudder*
I would do as Ann and count the blades thrice before and after the shaking... If I were to do that. Then I'd be still unsure if anything wrong happened, what if one broke? What if they multiplied?! (anxiety is a thing of beauty) But thankfully, I'm not one to utterly ruin my few plastic containers with razor blades.
I love that she not only shows that the “hacks” don’t work but explains why and how to do it properly. Also the explanations for why some of them are downright dangerous and gives proper information.
Strawberry jar hack is still to this day one of the more useful things I ever got from a debunking video. I need to go back to doing it. I eat them slower now and my local market only caries lovely pre-prepped ones - I'm lazy and they are just perfect to have 'just one' - at the height of the season.

Ozzie's Jar Trick also seems to work fine with cucumbers. Usually, they crumble fast in the fridge and I keep them out of it. But its really hot here rn, so i thought i'd clean them, cut them up and put them in clean jars, just to test it. They don't lose much moisture at all and stay nice and fresh longer, also they are very refreshing when served cold rn. I doubt you can keep them in there for 2 weeks without them getting moldy, but they don't usually survive a few days in my household anyway, so this is definitely an improvement.
I love that she's releasing her book with not just recipes, but the food science of the recipes so you can get that recipe perfect. I will definitely be buying it. You know someone who puts so much into her content is going to be equally brilliant with this book.

The problem is people who share these do believe them, nearly every single one. The fact that they are fake "magic tricks" should be made more obvious to prevent kids & unintelligent people from copying. You can't babysit everyone, so large sites like Facebook shouldn't promote such falsehoods. If people were forcing autistic children drink bleach in an attempt to "cure them" the gullibility & dangrousness of spreading such videos can not be underestimated. The other day my friend asked if he could buy me a Christmas present. I don't generally like Christmas presents so he had to ask. I said there was nothing I wanted. Now I just messaged him when I realised you made a dessert book and linked him to an ebook version! I was shocked at how affordable it was! I can't wait to get my (digital) hands on it! From the free sample I see that true to form you really went all out with the details and the food science explanations! Also the fact that it has 5 stars on Google Play speaks for itself! But what did I expect from a bestseller? Well, certainly not for it to be so affordable, but even with how much work you put into everything you do you still manage to blow me away every time with your care, your thoroughness and attention to scientific micro details! You're the kind of cook the world needs, that it doesn't deserve! Thank you for all the things that you do! 💜
I mean it’s not even editing they just moved the camera away while they swapped containers. This is basically that episode of South Park where Jesus turns water into wine by asking the audience to turn around.
For the strawberry in jars hack: YES!!! I was tired of my cluttered fridge and of vegetables drying out before I can eat them so I started putting everything in air tight containers, now my fridge is super tidy and the veggies last forever!
Wouldn't that cause some to mold though? I thought that keeping something in a continuous moist environment without oxygen could breed certain unwanted molds and bacteria but I could be wrong. It's why I store my mushrooms in the fridge in a closed paper lunch bag instead of unopened in those saran wrapped styrofoam containers because if they dry out you just re-hydrate them. Stored in the containers they get slimey and unusable.
I don't think I've ever managed to keep strawberries for two weeks without mold growing on them. Putting them in a glass jar isn't going to stop that unfortunately.
Mhm! This is a good hack. Next time I go shopping im probably going to pick up some jars to try this out. Maybe not for strawberries but it seems like a tidy way to keep your produce fresh

As someone who works in a grocery store, if you try to spin and/or heat up oranges with your mask under your chin, you’re not gonna get orange jelly but you *will* need to find a new place to shop for food.
YES
I was thinking "the audacity of doing this in store, why didn't anyone stop them??"
Yessss I work at a grocery store as well. I have so many questions, how did they get in with a blowtorch and a drill? Why couldn't they just pay for the orange first then do the experiment at home? It pisses me off that they just did that in the middle of the store, mask down, and obviously didn't pay for the product they just totally destroyed - _- as essential workers that get paid minimum wage we shouldn't have to deal with this kind of tomfoolery
I lost it when I saw this comment-
@@EmilyLennoxchannel I’d like to think that they brought the oranges in after paying for them, but that’s wishful. As for doing it in a store, it’s to fool people and make it seem more legitimate. Filming in store means there’s people in the background that aren’t a part of your script. People are getting wise to these stupid fake videos, and if you film at home in a ‘studio esque’ setting, it’s easier to cut the footage to look legit, and we’re all getting more sceptical about that now.

Ms Reardon (Mrs. It’s not a hack if it takes more effort to do the “hack” than to just...cut the strawberries with a cutting board and knife. God bless Ann for these videos.
I swear that most life hacks just make the task more difficult and destroys the tools. It's the cool, but inefficient approach.

My same thought process when seeing the potato "hack." Honestly a good knife does the job of most of these cooking hacks. Not to meantion, both easier and faster.
Well again the video said it's part of a "magic trick". Not supposed to be a hack

"This includes scripted dramas, satires, parodies, and magcic tricks."
Ah yes, Magic tricks, also knows as Editing. 🤡
Yup
The great magic trick of moving the camera to a place you would never put your atention on
I mean it’s not even editing they just moved the camera away while they swapped containers. This is basically that episode of South Park where Jesus turns water into wine by asking the audience to turn around.
Love that I can officially be considered a magician, with my com arts degree
@@ctkachuk08 but that actually happened... Jesus did turn water into wine.
@@Croz89 When I buy strawberries, they're lucky to last 2 hours, much less 2 weeks.
Mhm! This is a good hack. Next time I go shopping im probably going to pick up some jars to try this out. Maybe not for strawberries but it seems like a tidy way to keep your produce fresh
I'm going to have to try this! I've been wanting strawberries lately
Dave coming in hard with the dad jokes. "Let's com'pear' them."

It's like he's a father or something
Also, notice how neatly she pulls out the orange jelly? If it truly was from the insides, there'd be those little strands you find on the edges of orange wedges
Congratulations for the book Ann! 😭💕

I've been binging all the debunking videos and I don't even cook. The thing that I REALLY like is not only do you debunk them by making the tests to the exact specifications but you THEN present a way of properly doing the finish result, sometimes better. Debunking and giving a solution. I really like that.
Ann is like the mom/aunt/ science teacher/ calm guardian angel we never had
I live how sassy she is lol. Like politely saying how stupid the hacks are
"I could of course dice the strawberries while I'm here, but let's not do that"
The part where she called out the girl who claimed to not have an oven… legend

@@jennw6809 this is "How to cook that" after all! Gotta show us how to roast things, too!
Can we all just appreciate that Ann types the subtitles for her videos
voldy gone moldy hehehe
She puts SO much work into these videos and it totally shows
Now that i know that i almost feel guilty for clicking "dont show subtitles"
@@whalesharko4465 yeah
@@LaLa-sl7ls I always watch her videos with subtitles even though I have no reason to, ann is so kind that she writes the subtitles so that deaf people can watch her amazing videos, she is genuinely concerned about five minute crafts dangerous "life hacks" and she always hearts early comments and sometimes replies to them as well.
I haven't laughed so hard as I did at Dave's reaction at 7:45 in a long time. My goodness he does so well usually that really got me.
“I don’t know, I must have different humour to them”... I cackled way too loud at that one

Apparently, centrifugal force is real. Really, it just apparent.
As a trained chef, some of these "hacks" annoy me to no end simply because I know they are fake but most people don't. I used to have to explain things to people but now I just find one of your videos and just ask them to watch it.
I have been watching since I was 11!! I am about to turn 19 now !! Your channel has always been a safe warm place. All the best

I don’t have Tiktok and my sister is forever sending me these “hacks” and after watching so many of your debunking videos I keep trying to tell her to be a bit more aware. She sent me the cooking multiple pancakes at once in an airfryer one, and I had to burst her bubble that there was no way that was logically possible.
Same here, except it's my mom who's using tiktok lol
same. i talked to my siblings to stop watching those fake videos.
"you realize liquid goes through holes, right?
Buy her some "common sense."
Just send her links to Ann's vids as responses to any of that nonsense.
