10:00 That kinda hits home for me. I have a gaming channel that focus mostly on retro games (nes, snes, gameboy, etc). Back in 2016, I did a NES game called Code Name: Viper where I did a no damage/no death speedrun. I had split the series up into a video for each stage that was played so I could focus on one at a time. It took me about 3'ish weeks to get it perfect (having to time enemy spawn points, movements & attacks, figure out which items are where, etc, and do all of that as fast as possible without taking damage and without dying). I was so proud of it. Then in 2019, some j*ckoff gaming channel literally just re-uploaded all my videos as a compilation video and put it on their channel claiming it to be played by one of their people. I reported it to TH-cam as uploading reused content, and they essentially said that as long as they make money, they didn't care. I mean, what's the point of having a policy against doing stuff like that, if it's not going to be enforced? I had to start putting watermarks on my videos from then on. So, I know EXACTLY how it feels to have something that took you time & effort to make, just to have someone else come along and steal it claiming it as theirs. BTW, love your videos. I kinda feel bad for Dave though...
can you please post a link to your videos? i don't usually watch indie/retro gaming content but i'd love to let it play in the background just to give you a few views :)
Content farms should be banned for the absolute waste of time and misleading (sometimes dangerous) ways. At the very least they shouldn’t be pushed by the algorithm so much.

There is no obvious safety warning and, especially when fire is involved, they don't tell you what to do properly or what could happen if you do things wrong. Everyone is talking about Dave suffering, but NO ONE is talking about how Ann LITERALLY STUCK HER HAND IN THE *FREEZER* for this video. Thank you for putting so much effort into your videos Ann, we need more channels like this.

I love how Ann explains the real science behind why these things don't work, how to potentially make them work, and warns of the dangers of the TH-cam algorithm!
The other super easy way to do the chocolate hand would be to make a mold of your own hand. Make an impression in plaster, then fill it with silicone. The version can be coated in chocolate then stuck in the fridge for a couple hours.
Yes, we all feel for Dave when he tastes the nasty hacks, but just think of how much of Ann's normal cooking and baking he gets to eat when the cameras aren't on! I think he's got a pretty good thing going there.
Since I learnt from you that, as far as the algorithm is concerned negative attention is just as “good” as positive attention, I’ve been trying REALLY REALLY hard to not engage with a video that annoys me - usually I try to not even watch these videos, but that’s not always possible, especially with the new Shorts format. Sooo, thanks for sharing your amazing videos and for taking the time to research and create your content. I really appreciate it. 🙂🐿
Same, I've just gotten to the point of blocking the channel and telling TH-cam to not recommend the channel anymore, it works for the most part but not always. The best way I get rid of certain things is to basically 'reset' what I'm viewing by going to channels I actually watch and just watching their shorts a whole bunch until TH-cam goes "Oh! I see you like this channel/type of content, we'll just keep showing you their videos then." Not a perfect system but it works
I pause any short I don't want to watch and immediately click the don't recommend channel button. As far as I can tell I haven't seen them again, and I also remove the video from my watch history if I seriously hate the video.
@@esm1817 For sure. Ann is definitely on to something with the engagement theory. I imagine most of that girls video is people just calling her stupid, which is creating engagement. I really feel her urgency to address the issue of dangerous content on the YT platform. The megagiant corporations have a fleet of lawyers to keep the companies out of trouble. The fact that creators like Ann Reardon and many others are spreading this awareness shows that everyone does not want to make money the wrong way. I absolutely adore her for the efforts.

He looked so disappointed when he had to put it down and try the original recipe. lol Edited: I posted before I got to the pies. My response was in reference to the watermelon sorbet that I was still laughing about. Just got to the pies. lol
5 Years ago me and my nephew did the chocolate hand thing. We used Hershey's Shell chocolate, which has an additive that makes it hard. It also had that yellowish waxy color as well. Which I'm guessing was the additive.
Ann: spends a few minutes explaining that milk will taste sour when it's carbonated and gives the scientific reasoning behind it, telling us she doesn't recommend we try it at home Also Ann: so let's have Dave try it :^) Love your videos Ann thanks for always taking the time to make thorough, educational, and entertaining videos!!
Poor Dave, he's so accustomed to eating the terrible food from recreating 5 minute craft videos that he goes in for a second sip of the carbonated milk
Minor point of correction. Liquids normally condense when they solidify/freeze. Water is a notable exception due to the polar nature of its molecules. But, it is the exception rather than the rule.
It's probably fair to say that 90% of liquids a cook or baker is dealing with is water-based (at least to some degree), though. (And who would freeze oil or alcohol?) Technically true, but kinda like saying a tomato is a fruit (but you wouldn't put one in fruit salad).
@@andyvulhop I don't know - I could really go an avocado crumble! I recall when I went to cooking school they made it very clear that tomato is a botanical fruit, but a culinary vegetable. Only thing I remembered :P
I love how SHOCKED dave was when he tried the sorbet and it was good. Like years of charcoal ice cream and milky coke have almost had a pavlovian effect on him. Camera+Ann with plate= Unhappy Dave.
I love how Ann debunks videos and then will sometimes give some other options on how to get similar results to the video that actually work. She's awesome.
I think Dave having to try all the fails and scams is just a way of the universe balancing itself because he also gets to have all the fantastic stuff Ann makes
2:55 Ann's ring is very beautiful and well made, I mean, I can admire it from a distance, and then she just..dips it in chocolate. Absolute dedication to the craft right there.
I also think, people should have logical thinking and if it seems too easy and sounds too good, then that is probably too good to be true. Plus a basic experience in cooking.
Now the strange thing is, Ann mostly does baking and that hardly interests me at all, but here I am watching the videos just because, well, of her personality and charisma, AND - no less strange - I learn something about life in general from this - presumably baking - channel! Isn't it wonderful! Thank you ever so much, Ann, for being there for us.
If someone wants a “chocolate hand” for a sundae, freeze water in a glove. For the fingers up, freeze it a bowl. Then dunk the frozen Leandro” in chocolate and make your sundae. As for that nasty carbonated milk, I think you owe Dave something delicious to make up for it.
@@richardwilson230, maybe, but a glove frozen with water would instantly set the chocolate. If one used a mannequin hand, you’d still want to glove it, for sterility sake.
I applaud what you’re doing - both debunking and pointing out how the platform algorithms and content farms are destroying creativity. I especially appreciate your apparent deep understanding of food and it’s preparation. Well done! Please keep at it and know your message is getting out. And BTW, Cheers to Dave for being such a good sport!
Don't forget bot farms as well. I can get people liking these hack videos but considering the shady practices that these content farms use, I wouldn't be surprised if some were paying for views, especially considering that will these channels and videos have enormous views it comes off that hardly anyone on the platform actually knows who they are. Pretty sus for channels that are treated like royalty here.
We really need better ways to keep big corporations like TH-cam liable for the stuff they choose to host without heeding the complaints about it. Not being able to properly call them out for it and have it do anything is a huge issue.
It'll be interesting to see, now that Porn Hub's lost its' lawsuit around knowingly profiting from illegal content, if any of that will impact other sites.....
While this is true, it is also true that if TH-cam is held responsible for everything it allows to upload that it will start a draconian crackdown on content. It will ban/remove anything that can even remotely be seen as a problem. And as world wide opinions tend to be different on what is and what isn't a problem, very little content would remain. Better safe then sorry attitude will result in much stricter sensoring in every possible way. What most people want is a good balance. But legaly it's hard to find that balance. TH-cam is already being called out for removing video's for questionable content when they dont even have anything bad in them. Or like a single curse word. Meanwhile harmful video's like fake and dangerous hacks can remain because no on screen violence, nudity, hatred or cursing is occuring. TH-cam struggles with finding that balance already, badly so. So if they are FORCED to crack down on things, they WILL crack down on things. Including a lot of content you dont want to see cracked down. Rather then making TH-cam liable for bad content from others who make use of youutbe, youtube should be rewared for keeping fake hacks/misinformation and dangerous (in the sense of kids will believe it and try it at home) video's off their platform. Further more, allow youtube to sue people and corperations who misuesed their platform for content thats not allowed. This way there is less need for youtube to crack down on everything to protect their own hides, at the expense of the ''good guys'' (regular youtubers who are not doing anything wrong), while there is more incentive to hunt the bad guys because it can make them more money. TH-cam understands greed. So rewarding them will work better then punnishing them for a safer and happier youtube. Punnishing them for content will just make them paranoid about being punnished more, which means regular youtubers will suffer more consequences and have more and more video's removed/blocked etc.
I just love how happy Dave looked when he tasted the first sorbet "wow it actually tastes good I don't get poison today" and then his sadness when he ate the other stuff

@@ewetoobz3840 the depression affected food and recipes and even cultural language that wound be the same and won’t translate to places that didn’t have it. Depression food with the cultural background means food made with basically no expensive ingredients. Without it it’s just food for depressed people.

Dave is so committed to the bit that he willingly drinks carbonated milk for his wife's youtube channel. twice.

You'll be much happier if you stop watching Shorts altogether, I promise lol
Same, I've just gotten to the point of blocking the channel and telling TH-cam to not recommend the channel anymore, it works for the most part but not always. The best way I get rid of certain things is to basically 'reset' what I'm viewing by going to channels I actually watch and just watching their shorts a whole bunch until TH-cam goes "Oh! I see you like this channel/type of content, we'll just keep showing you their videos then." Not a perfect system but it works
@@lemonywater2979wish you could disable shorts, especially if you have red
Great reason to just ignore shorts altogether 😄 downright harmful bs
I pause any short I don't want to watch and immediately click the don't recommend channel button. As far as I can tell I haven't seen them again, and I also remove the video from my watch history if I seriously hate the video.

Great Video and great Explanation!!
If the Platform can't be hold responsible for the Content of its Users then the Users Uploaders should be
We really need better ways to keep big corporations like TH-cam liable for the stuff they choose to host without heeding the complaints about it.
