    3:30 not all schools teach using only English and also not all of the subjects. It really depends on the school you go to and the syllabus of the class. Everyone starts learning English when they're 6 years old. English is the second national language after Maltese.
    4:23 A lot of people know Italian from cable television. Italian was nearly considered our second language before WWII, but back then we were under the British rule so English won. It is also one of the several choices of third languages in the Maltese curriculum. (when students turn 11, they have to choose a third language to study, some choose a fourth later on.)
    5:19 ċentru, bonġu (good morning not good day like French), ċaw (only bye not hello too like Italian)
    Sorry I had too... Have a good day, I really enjoyed your video :)

The Maltese Language sounds very Arabic with a few Italian words. It's a sermetic Language. Malta is the only European country that speak Arabic dialect influence by a it of Italian mainly Arabic language speaking though. Love Natasha. Xxxxxx.

    Historically speaking Malta were under Tunisian (arabic ) rule during almost 200 years also from the 19th and 20th centuries a large Maltese and Sicilian communities used to live in Tunisia especially Tunis almost 30000 Maltese in 1930 so there is strong connection between both cultures ! nevertheless Maltese language derive from the Sicilian Arabic (a dead dialect) .

    My Wife is Maltese. She came to live with me in England so we don't speak it as much these days but, this was a beautiful watch. Thank you.
    Tini means "you give me" so, when you say tini kafé you're actually saying "You give me a coffeé", which as a Britishmen comes off incredibly rude to me but, is very normal for Maltese people as a tid bit for you. :)
    Tt at the beginning generally equals you.
    Ii at the end generally equals me.

      Actually in sicilian dialect "tini" it means "do you have?" Not Give me. I'm pretty much sure the essence of that phrase is taken from sicilian dialect but i don't know how much it may differ from an arabic language.

    • @stevenalanjacobs
      @stevenalanjacobs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@insanepathology this is likely just a coincidence. “Tiniri” in Sicilian, like “tenere” in Italian, is of Latin origin and means “to have”. While “Tini” is of Arabic origin, meaning “give,” and has no etymological relationship to the Sicilian “tiniri.”

    0:50 Hmm, in Bulgarian we have "karoutza" (probably from Latin) which sounds almost the same as "karozza" here, and means "cart" that is pulled by donkey or horse... Interesting that in English the word "coach" could be a bus, as well as a carriage, so it's essentially the same thing - a means of transportation...

      The group is called Mesopotamian-Peninsular, the term "semitic" is unhistoric and unscientific, and had long been removed from the academic circles.
      Maltese is a daughter language of Arabic, Arabic is a sister language of Canaanite, old Hebrew is a dialect of Canaanite, Neo (modern) Hebrew is an admixture of Syriac, old Hebrew, German, Yiddish and Arabic, with English influence.

      La grande majorité des Tunisiens appartiennent à des tribus arabes dont les origines proviennent de la péninsule arabique, dont la plus grande est la tribu des Bani Hudhail (affiliée aux Bani Salim).
      Les Arabes sont ce qui caractérise le plus l'identité tunisienne : 98,8% des Tunisiens sont arabes.

      Why would you call them Arabs? They are European, they are mainly Christian and have been since the 3. century, their language came from Sicily and later only survived in Malta ...

    • @dksncztbsdjds2175
      @dksncztbsdjds2175 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Octopussyist Being Arab doesn't mean being Muslim. There are lots of Christian Arabs. I am not Arab but I know Arabic and can clearly see that it is Arabic but simply not called Arabic. If Arabs wouldn't learn Classical Arabic (which nobody speaks) in school they would understand each other less as well. Maltese is classified like this: Afro-Asiatic -> Semitic -> West Semitic -> Central Semitic -> Classical Arabic -> Maghrebi Arabic -> Siculo-Arabic -> Maltese

    • @Octopussyist
      @Octopussyist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dksncztbsdjds2175 Still Islamic influence on the culture in the Arabic world is way stronger than anything else, be it Christianity or ancient local religions. There is not much Arabic about Maltese culture except the roots of the language. Calling them Arabs would be just as intelligent as calling the Irish Germans only because most of them speak a Germanic language.

    • @dksncztbsdjds2175
      @dksncztbsdjds2175 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Octopussyist You are again confusing religious traditions with ethnic culture. Do you want to tell a Palestinian Christian who defines himself as Arab that he is not Arab because he is Christian? Or if an Arab does not belong to any religion at all? I am not saying that Maltese should call themselves Arab. But saying that there is nothing Arabic about them although they clearly speak a language which is a direct descendant of Classical Arabic is very very odd. Your comparison with the Irish is out of place for two reasons. 1) English is not a direct descendant of High German. It is in the subgroup of the Germanic branch. Like Maltese is in the sub group of the Semitic branch. Languages which are descendants of High German are for example Modern Standard German, Pennsylvanian German, etc. but not English. Likewise Maltese is a direct descendant of Classical Arabic like Tunisian, Syrian, etc. 2) The Irish have another native language, which most of them just don't speak anymore, but it still exists. The Maltese have no other native language.
