As someone who cant afford a fighting stick, Modern controls are amazing, i hit 95% of all my combos and mix ups, rarely drop one and the instant air DP really puts jumpy players in their place. Also the fireball, since you just have to charge back and throw it, you can spam away to make them jump or DI and punish hard.
There's one more thing Modern chun-li missing: Jump heavy punch: no longer J2MK>J2MK>JHP>JHP sequence means you lose a lot of corner carry and no more safe-jump/meaty fireball setup which is a big deal. Also 3HK is not just gimmick, it's also used as a side-switch combo after DI PP when in corner.
Modern Chun-Li has a simplified game plan and a strong zoning element with fireball changes and her anti-air being 1 button. Classic chun has significantly more safe jump setups, meaty stance mixup in the corner and much higher damage. I can see why some people would like modern, it does help in some areas and it really lessens the mental stack. I prefer classic because I like learning all aspects of the character, it just keeps me interested in playing longer. I love Chun-Li in Sf6, I hit master rank months ago and I'm still learning a lot about her.
It kinda feels like the question is "Is my character better on modern or classic?". What do you give up and what do you gain? If you ignore the modern you'll probably lose to it. It fees like you need to understand modern even if you don't use it.

Modern Chun Li along with all of the Modern cast is decent the thing that's crazy about one of my demons Cammy is that she generally speaking is just as relatively insane to deal with on Classic as she is on Modern in most cases where I face her while Modern tends to buff the rest of the cast if you can mentally adjust to the new strange inputs (Something I'm still working on as my muscle memory doesn't change easily especially between the two control schemes)

@@armtc Modern is cheap. Top players just try to find the most OP thing since that's their job, hence why Japanese only play top tiers since there is a high level competition there. "Dogwatwer players will complain", if you speak about beginners then that's their right, they're trying to learn the game and probably get discouraged by people just smashing buttons to get a full combo + super, their frustration is understandable since 20% damage reduce means nothing for them since even intermediate seasoned players constantly drop combos and can't AA consistently, better not drop anything and have an artificially improved reaction time than dropping and get punished, your 20%+ damages are meaninglessness in those scenarios, and you can do the full inputs if wanted anyway.
