Hi Neil, thanks for your help with the car. Been using it every day since I collected it and the idle seems to have sorted itself out , although I think a new thermostat and air mass meter will also help matters. Nice to know its not had any welding. Fortunately I paid less than half the cost of the supercharger mod for the whole car. Thanks again.
Thanks for the rundown, I love my JTS and one day will delete the cats, cam it and remap for some buzz box action, but I agree I'd never outlay the money for the SC kit. The best part of the JTS is that it has character for fast pedalling but enough torque to daily to work and back, but then cruising the fuel economy is excellent given it's age. Also in Australia it's actually better bang for buck to get a Giulietta QV than a V6 156 because they're almost all autos and people still ask Alfa Tax figures for them.
Lovely Jubbly, I remember seeing the 156 being released at Mangoletsi in Cheshire, it doesn't seem that long ago now. Great video as always, but I would invest in some plastic seat covers for such light coloured seat in cars while there being worked on.
I had my 2.0 TS Sele done, nice power but also need to reprogram the gear box, fuel maps and upgrade your CV. I suspect the smaller 1800cc version is the better engine design wise for this mod. If you can cam, headwork and remap your 2ltr thats a really good option too. I've had both and both give good response.
Is there really anything to do to the head? I can't fault the design and result. What's there to do? I reckon you will lose power if it's not done right.
Great video! As a "Yank", I had to look up what "half inch it" meant! Odd that the neighbor thought you were up to something. Can't imagine professional car thieves record their handiwork in broad daylight!😂
Mega cool kit - I always prefer the instant torque of a supercharger over a turbo. Problem is that a set of Colombo & Bariani fast road camshafts are around £1,000 (before remap) and provide nearly the same horsepower gain. That's what I'll be doing to my JTS-powered GT in the future if I decide to keep it that long. Plus, you know, cammed 4-pots sound awesome.
I just bought the C&B Mild road cams because I thought the specs of the fast were a bit peaky for the real estate around here. By the time you buy all new followers/buckets, seals, grease etc. it cam out to over 1600GBP. That was including shipping to Australia. I'm now looking for a Supercharger kit.
@@Strike86 Look. Everything in Australia is twice as expensive as it is everywhere else. I'm not wasting these cams in a JTS engine. My very long time mechanic (20years) stole my low mileage (80,000Kms) engine for his race car. So I'm bitter and twisted right now. So until I get that back. I'm not happy to put these expensive CAMS in just any motor. So NO I don't know how they go just yet. But I've have had literally 40years of motor mods and I know that the mild CAMS will be more than enough. Combine that with a lightened Flywheel and a remap, it should have a excellent pickup. Just no prepared to put money into a JTS block.
@@Strike86 I'll have to steal it back and put it in my car. then all the engine and chassis numbers will match. What's someone going to say, I stole my own engine?
I would love to supercharge my JTS GT, but for this kind of money, I prefer a 170 HP Giulietta with a remap, which is much more economical in fuel and maintenance, practical and of course, newer or even another car from other makers with at least 200 HP. Can't buy a V6 156 or GT because of stupid taxes in my country for these engines. For way less money than this supercharger I think the Colombo & Bariani camshafts, custom exhaust, lightweight engine pulley, an oil catch can, shaved intake manifold and a remap it's enough. Someone I know installed the camshafts with Supersprint exhaust, did a remap and it was making ~185-190 HP. I don't know the torque. For me torque is more important than HP. It was running very well.
Your "favorite" 2.0 JTS engine, Neil! Haha In general, the avoided JTS 2.0 is not that bad. I ve driven one and the engine sound is good. Just make sure to pick a low mileage car, built after 2005 otherwise you will suffer. :)
@@FazermanD The same engine is fitted in the GT until 2010. Btw, its a well known fact, that all 2.0 JTS produced before 10.2004 have major engine issues. Therefore an engine rebuild would be needed before they even reach 200k. Not that bad if you can afford to buy it brand new. :)
Interesting looking car but yes, buy a V6. Could probably build a V6 3.0 for cheaper if you've got any 156 too and that's a massively better prospect even though I haven't driven an SC JTS.
Nice video, Neil. Thanks for sharing. I've always had a soft spot for Alfa Romeo (and everything italian) and just fished binge-watching the 155 episodes. Just an honest question: would you prefer the 156 stock JTS over a 159 petrol in any form? They are becoming very rare, so want to get hold of one whilest I can.
What is your experience of the JTS engine? One Alfa mechanic told me they get a misfire that is impossible to fix. In fact, I think 2 Alfa mechanics have said that 😳

Hey Djeson i have a 156 SW ( 2004 Facelift ) with a CF3 fully rebuilt engine, everything new on the inside but stock and all Cats deleted ( header cats and central cat, 3 in total), do you reckon i'm very safe making like 200hp out of a turbo? Thanks in advance!
@@djeson27 I forgot to mention, i have the CF1 or 2 header (the One With no cats) and a 2.0 TS camshafts, the idling sounds like a V8 😂 I'm really thinking about turboing it
What was the problem with the JTS engine having clogged intakes ? Someone said it was due to bad cam design and the fact that it is a direct injection engine , oil vapor, with no injector to clean the intake ports.
All direct injection motors suffered from this, Mitsubishi were the first to run into it, additionally it seemed that the early JTS engines occasionally had camshaft wear issues which may not have helped matters.
What is your opinion on those 156 jts engines...here in croatia there are very few of them..and people tempt to avoid them ...sayin that ever ts engine is betteer then jts 😅
Definitely. The JTS engine is VERY sensitive to the type of oil that's used. You can ONLY use the factory recommended oil, unless of course you don't mind rebuilding the car every 100Kms. I have both the TS and the JTS and without doubt the TS is the one to go for. They race TS 156's but not the JTS. That's all you need to know,
@@ItaliaAutos thank you. All in vain as we think the bottom end is gone! Bloody heck I knew it was a chance but I didn’t expect that. That car is in rubbish condition as far as the Supercharger money goes. You'd have to add 5kPounds on for new paint. It has a stock interior, not the Recaro upgrade. The underneath looks like rubbish and ALL the bushes should be replaced, either with Poly or quality rubber. In general, a waste of money on such a poor base car. It would cost less to lighten the flywheel, crank and balancer and it would achieve the same acceleration.
