  • Join me in taking an initial look at my new OEMTools (also known as Great Neck tools) 20 ton air over hydraulic press! In this video I unboxed it, assembled it, and tried it out for the first time. I also did my best to provide assembly instructions since it pretty much didn't include any!

    Hello. I have the same press (mine is blue, Princess Auto). Get some 5”x3/16” flat iron and plate the web of the horizontal channel iron, all four. Stick weld and plug weld is how I did it. Also I replaced the bolts at the top and the table bolts with grade 8. Hope that helps.

      I'm not opposed to beefing it up if the need arises, but if I'm honest I've just barely used mine so far and it seems pretty much fine.
      I have more than once considered changing the bolts out with some of known quality though.

      @@TheBrokenLife If I get this beast, I don't know if I could bring myself to weld anything to it unless I could match that bold green paint. Not sure what you'd call the color, but it's oddly appealing. I already have a hub grappler kit from OEM tools so it wouldn't be the only bold item in my garage. Also can't think of what I might get into that would require additional bracing.

      @@magikamos The closest thing I could imagine to the color of it would be high visibility green/safety green. I also don't mind the color. 😆

    nice tool there but one down side of it is its not a deep throat for parts to fit in the bed. its the same problem I have with my HF one love it when it works but hate it when I cant use it

      I'm not sure if I'm following you. I normally only hear the term "deep throat" in regard to arbor and punch presses. An H frame press has no throat..?

      @@TheBrokenLife youtube will not let me shere a lank what it is has a wide press bed on it I have not seen them with wide bed anymore evern if you go with a 50ton not getting much when I can I will look up the model and you can google it

      @@CantKillMe I gotcha. On mine, since the ram can move the full width of the H frame it sort of doubles the width capacity vs the HFT with a stationary punch. That said, I never really had that issue with the HFT press. Stuff like leaf springs (for bushing replacement) I would rest the work on a stand in front of the press and just put the eye under the ram.
      For most of what I plan to do, I suspect most of the work will be entirely on the table and probably centered up. Lots of gear carriers and manual transmission bits.

    Did you ever find out anything about extra dies that were included? They look like a nice addition, but I can't find anything out about them. Most kits like that are pretty pricey. Thanks

      @TheBrokenLife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did! I've been meaning to make a follow-up to this one and that's one of the reasons. 😂
      OEM had a promotion running at the time I ordered my press and that kit was included for free, but I didn't know anything about it at the time since I ordered it from Autozone (who didn't say anything about a promotion), but it was drop-shipped from OEM. The only way I figured it out is because it was on the packing slip once I took it off of the box.
      You are correct that it's a little spendy and I was glad to get it as a bonus. FWIW, it looks like Summit Racing has the best deal on it. I'm pretty sure mine is the same item (24813). It appears that the price on it is likely to double soon, as that's what Jeg's is charging... the price on the press itself went up a long time ago too.

      @@TheBrokenLife I can get the press delivered now for $740 w/tax. I can barely think of things I need it for, but the GREAT DEAL is killing me! I don't even have a ton of room for it, let alone the need, but I'm sure I'll find some uses as my projects continue to increase. The pin set is probably even less necessary, but it completes the useful look if nothing else.

      I waited too long. Same company now has the press listed at just over $1900. Dream delayed at least for now. : (

      @@magikamos I actually had the same problem when I ordered mine... it's a long story, but I ended up with quite a decent deal on it.

    I'm hoping that a recession will put the brakes on inflation. But all the money printing of the last 14 years. or really, 22 years has yet to be felt. I recall prices shot up around 2012 IIRC (might have been 2013 or 2014), (it was back when silver and gold made new all time highs. I think gold topped out around 1400) but prices came back down.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to keep this on topic for a brief moment: I paid the pre-inflation price for the press. That will be a topic for a separate video, but, that's the primary reason I got it when I did...
      Sadly, I don't believe prices on durable goods are coming back down. Industry absorbed more than 2 years of tariffs without raising prices and then finally, after 3 years of Covid on top, the supply chain had a full reaction and finally had to price it in. Now that salaries are rising at record rates as well, there's no chance prices will retract. The government simply can't "un-print" half of all of the money ever minted in human history across the globe. It's out there now. I also don't believe government spending is going to slow down no matter what happens to the rest of us. There really is no indication that any of this is going to get better. No one is at the wheel.
      My opinion, which I hope is wrong, only relates to durable goods. Normal commodities, like food and energy, will likely come back down eventually. As people start losing their jobs in waves the housing and auto markets will collapse as well. Things in the middle that fall between needs and wants are probably just going to stay right where they are.
      That said, some of this stuff has been way too cheap for awhile. There are many things I've bought multiple times over the years that never had a cost increase from like 2010 until 2021. _All_ of this stuff comes from China in one way or another and their currency manipulation keeping competitors from the market through 30% of "healthy" inflation over an entire decade has long been out of line. Now that we're seeing what is probably going to be multiple years of 10%+, we may finally see some other competitors emerge in the market. I'd for sure love to buy American, but I'd take Bangladeshi, Mexican, Chilean, etc, etc these days over my other options.
      I really do need to fire off a couple of videos on the 3rd channel where this sort of conversation is more the norm, but my TLDR here is the same as it has been for the last couple of years: If there is something you need and it's a durable item, and you can afford it now, get it now.

      @@TheBrokenLife Isn't a lot of the money destroyed during the recession? As I understand it, this is what they are always worried about "deflation" wherein defaults cause new defaults causing ever more defaults, a "deflationary spiral" As I understand it, this is why they printed all the money back during the great recession and then more recently with Covid. This was also the thinking behind the "helicopter money" (stimulus checks) in 2020 and 2021.
      Of course, had adults been in charge, none of the bubbles ever would have gotten blown up in the first place. So expecting the feds to act like adults if a recession comes is probably a bad bet.

      @@tarstarkusz They won't/can't let that much money default. The US government itself would default at that point since they wouldn't be able to print the money to pay its own debt. They will bail out anything that needs bailing out, except you or I, to keep it floating as long as possible.
