- Window view from Air Koryo IL-62M P-881 during landing into Pyongyang (FNJ), Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea on 20th October 2012. Operating flight JS152 from Beijing Capital Airport (PEK), China.
I could listen to this engine for hours...its so relaxing.
@@manu4645 Yes. That’s what he said??
You can clearly hear how internal and external engines are operating independently spooling up and down to make approach as much smooth as possible... Amazing engines of that century
tell me you don't know how reversers on a il-62m work, without telling me.
@@goclunkerI was telling about those sounds shifting in the air (clearly noticeable in this video) before even land and reversers (yes, external only) on
Fantastic video! Thanks for posting it. I have flown Air Koryo Beijing - Pyongyang 3 times in recent years, this video captures the excitement of landing in such a strange place.
This engine shut down sound at 9:28 is amazing, music to my ears.
Aleks L Check out the same on my recently uploaded Tu-154M videos too
Thank you for an awesome video of the IL 62, an aircraft I have yet to fly in but is on my 'to do' list. Very well shot and the best IL 62 video I have yet seen. You have perfectly captured the landing experience.
Thank you very much. I was really pleased with this approach video. There are some incredible sounds. Glad you enjoyed it.
Просто чудо, что в КНДР до сих пор летают Ил-62М, Ил-18Д, Ту-156Б. Звук - просто песнч!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Soviet Airplane enthusiast here. Nice vid, this makes me want to experience it for myself more than ever. Wow. I just love that "shrieky" sound the engines make as the flaps are starting to come down. A hallmark of old design engines that you wont hear anymore from a modern Boeing or Airbus.. there's just some unexplainable charm and appeal to that sound that only we airplane fanatics can understand and appreciate. And knowing that this is a Soviet design from the 60's makes it even more alluring.
I flew from Shannon in Ireland to refuel at Gandar in Canada and then on to Havana Cuba on an IL62 in the late 1980's. Such a beautiful plane. I returned directly from Havana to Shannon on an IL86, also a beautiful widebody plane.
The IL-62 is just a wonderful airplane.Would love to fly in one before they are all gone.
So many people below are saying it's a death trap...
BUT IT ISN'T!It is actually one of the safest aircraft of its era and most don't even know what they're talking about.Plus those D-30s are an absolutely orgasmic experience!
Exactly. Watch my Deta Air IL-62 landing in Shymkent and imagine an A320 landing in those conditions.
I wouldn’t risk it
@@NetworkerExpress probably propaganda to keep Russia out of the commercial aviation game
@@NetworkerExpress it's nothing more than a capitalist plot
beautiful footage and sound!!! Thanks for sharing!!
I love the shut down. THIS IS JUST MUSIC.
These screaming engines sound orgasmic. love them.
Great video!!! Love the engine sounds!!
Amazing !!! I would love to see or even travel in a IL-62 !!! Liked :)
so nice sounds of D30KU engines.I like to hear that divided operating of external and internal engines during the final approach to make a speed changing more smooth. also you can hear right before touch down a little noise from retracted revers hatches (same noise like from the breaking spoilers which are retracting during descending). So from the both videos of Il62 landing I can see like the pilots used to retract reverses before the plane touched down, what making some a little parasuit effect
Gotta love how the pilot shuts down the engines before the aircraft comes to a halt! :)
It isn't shut down. What you are seeing in front are inlet guide vanes and they are stationary. Stage 1 (the part that spins) is behind them.
The cool thing about Russian jets, is the engines literally 'sing.' Great vid! Enjoyed every minute.
Cool shout of D-30KU It is a comfortable lullaby for me!
In old days I was hearing it at RJNN
I enjoyed it. I wish we had these in america. it would have been awesome.
Amazing video. I like the sound of the engines
Thank you for the Great video
Awesome video!
On this time (may 2013), they are 5 active Il-62M in Air Koryo's fleet :
- P618 : first flight in 1985 ; order by JS
- P885 : first flight in 1979 ; order by JS
- P881 : first flight in 1986 ; order by JS
- P886P : first flight in 1988 ; ex Cubana (CU-T1280) and received by JS in July 2012
- P882 : first flight in 1989 ; order by JS
You can find the production list of Il-62M and Tu-154M on russianplanes. net
Thanks for your video in HD ;) I love this aircraft.
I love this airplane, unique and amazing sound
Thats how my ps4 sounds when i launch red dead redemption
RIP
Звук - ПЕСНЯ!!!
What's with all the spooling up and down? Does it only have two thurst settings: idle and maximum?
Now that's one hell of a smooth landing!
very nice engine sound
Just beautiful.
They are guide vanes which guide air into the engine. All the engines are running, as a pilot myself i don't really know what they are doing with the spooling up and down with the engines. Also notice the flaps are set as well. That could be a factor, the aircraft could be running late and to show how efficient North Korea is it could be trying to get there on time. Yet another factor could be that the pilots are under orders to quickly fly past the slums, and the outcast villages with no power.
il62m reversers are only on the outside engines, and there is a 90 second startup delay once spooled down
Ah right, I thought Koryo had some of their older ones. In fact, I think they delivered an IL62 last year. Ilyushin and Tupolev keep shells of aircraft at their factories and they build them if they have an order for them. I think a Tu154 was delivered last year too.
Keep up the Great work
I flew this plane from Beijing to Pyongyang about 12 years ago. They didn't run the inboard engines on that flight either, but there were only 42 people on that flight. Even fewer people in the return flight to Beijing. Some say that they fill the plane with fuel in Beijing to get fuel for the military in North Korea.
The inboard engines are running. What you can see is not the fan.
@@flymajj The inlet fan is not rotating on the inboard engine. It was the same way on my flight in 2010. Used a lot of runway to take off in Beijing as well.
This one is about 30 years old. A lot of IL-62 M versions are not as old as one might think. I think the last one was produced in about 1995.
lovely video!
Is one of the engines not working?
smooth touch :)
smooth landing!
Can the IL 62 also do long-haul?
did they confiscate your camera when you arrived? Because i've seen in tv's cameras are not allowed in NoKor especially for tourists
Is that common operating procedure to shutdown engine 3 (I am assuming that one is 3) for approach? Seems like that may be why they had to gun the outboard ones so much . . .
Very good landing!
All jets increase thrust as they get closer to the ground to land. Thats because flaps are used so theres more drag.
звук теряющих обороты двигателей в конце - эпичен....
Better landing than ryanair
Why the other engine isnt running?
is it just me or that inboard engine dont appear to be spinning
This might just be in my head, but... is the inboard engine powered off?
Look at those rolling green hills planted with an abundance of food... oh wait, it's heroin...
Wow. Fuel into noise.
Why is the inboard engine off?
dennis rodman greet you at the airport??
I need to straighten something out here. The engine fan blade is inside the engine, but on the outside they have those things that look like fans.
what are you talking about man
John Arnold People kept saying that the engine fan wasn't spinning, so I cleared it up
GPlaysGTA Online oh ok yeAH. What you have in view is called a Stator vane. It is a stationary guide vane the directs air at the proper angle to meet the first stage of compression blades . The spinning disk you are looking for is further inside the engine and out of view.
No fence, car park, buildings or anything around that airport. Landing in the middle of a field
Most don't drive in the capital. Definitely not a car heavy society like the U.S.
On more moodern jets, you just don't realize the thrust increase because the engines are much quieter, unless you pay close attention.
awesome!
@Ian M - flymajj : The production was stop in 1999 but the very last one had his first flight in 2004. It's the ST-PRA of Sudan Governmt (russianplanes. net/reginfo/2720) and he's only 8 years and 4 month !!
For the Tu-154M, the very last aircraft produced was in february 2013 after 45 years of product !
I could not agree more, That aircraft will be, what? 45 years old? and it's still going strong.
Супер самолет!
Did you get killed right after you go out from the gate?
Very good oldschool plane
so, how is NK doing ?
I know!
Engine cowling sure could use a new coat of paint!
The Engines Sound Better that the MD-88's
why do they fly with 2 engines insted of 4
Wow, amazing.
I found this airport at 39°13′26″N 125°40′12″E
I determined that this flight approaches this airport from the North (not South). This runway runs almost exactly north to south. I used Bing Maps and was able to correlate objects and terrain outside the window of this plane, with like objects and roads etc on Bing Maps. Pretty amazing.
Isn't it dangerous to fly with this company and old plane? Cause they are not allowed to fly to many foreign destinations.. and my 2 question: Is the inner engine shut down during the landing?? looks like the blades are holding still :) Nice video though, but it must be a weird feeling to fly with a company like this(not to mention the aircraft too) :)
At 9:31 is just beyond perfection ❤
muy bueno!!! ;)
planes are allowed there ?
Off! Course!
thats correct Stall stall xD .... yes its normal :-) flaps on aproach, less speed and thrust increase to avoid a stall or to correct speed.
Sorry, that should say "they complete them if they get an order," the shells are already built.
Engines sounds like GE JT3D
wow. I did not expect that North Korea has airports.
Why wasn't the inner engine working?
the inner engine is working, you are looking at the inlet guide vanes (stator) in front of the fan. the JT8D engines (where the russian copied this engines from ( :D ) are the same
Flight 743 Air Koryo Welcome to California you are cleared to land on Runway 3/4 3 Mile wind South by Southwest
Talk about scariest plane ride ever!
Australia was almost banned from operating flights to america because of the way our airport security is handled by the airports rather than directly by the government, hardly a safety issue. Old planes like this are still used in many places, in fact they are safer in some respects (manual controls = no risk of hydraulic failure, no computer control = no computer failure, no batteries like 787 = no fire). Also, the blades that do not move are called stators, and are meant to stay still :)
good luck :)
Personally, I'd be nervous to go to NK.
I'd be afraid I'd do something like accidentally fart in public, and then be imprisoned and charged with something like "Odorous Disrespect in Highest Degree for Dear Leader", and then sentenced a week later to 10 years breaking bricks in a Salt Mine in the snow-covered mountain wilderness.
Yes, wonderful technologically advanced Soloviev engines: The cutting edge of 1962 Russian aviation.
I really hoped to fly on an Air Koryo IL-62 when I visit the DPRK this year but looks like I'm too late. Gues it will be one of the TU-204s instead. Oh well who cares, it's Air Koryo and 7 days in the DPRK, so it all good.
from 4min to 6 increasing thrust....
Los aviones sobretodo sovieticos de los 60s tienen mejor sonido que un auto :3, almenos para mi.
anyone over here ever gone on a Douglas plane ever?
OMG is that Captain Confederate States of America flying underneath the wing
What, me and the other 40?!
9:30 Fuel Cutoff Switch
"Your lucky that you survived"
The DPRK is a safe country.
Are those soviet engines?
yes indeed they are soloviev D-30 turbofans
+killman369547 Hello, for your better info: all build Ilyushin 62 was mounted by "Kuznetsov" units. I´m not sure if it was type 8. or so...
I wanna go in one but I'm too scared! :(
These are very rugged aircraft. It just depends on the airline.
+Lord Sandwich Are you to scared to fly? if thats the case this time 4 months ago i was so scared to fly cause id never done it since then ive flown to 5 countries its so much fun planning on heading to new york in september to :) flying is fun :)
cfcsteve86
I'm not scared of flying per se, but the IL62 is a 50+ year old airliner run by the airline of a third world country. Surely you could understand why I'd be a *little* bit hesitant to board one? :)
just take drugs
Lord Sandwich Like I said, depends on the airline. The only real reason why these planes crash is because of thing like bad maintenance or pilot error. Rarely is it because of something like design flaw.
@@Dmitry_Shustry понял, спасибо
Это как бы не защита,а,если можно так выразиться-входной диффузор для более устойчивого набегающего потока
It is not illegal. It is only true that a plane cannot be in service unless it is not older than 40 years. Source: My Grandpa.
The safety of the plane is fine relive to planes of its own age. However, when compared to newer modern jets, it is much more unsafe. Look at how outdated the cockpit is. What will the pilots do in a snow storm or thundersorm, or even low visability? Don't think they have autoland. No autoland and advanced tech to help them so they have to do much of the flying and prediction in bad weather manually. Very unsafe in bad weather. Also its older which means parts will break more easily/more often.
Emperor Kim Jong-un thank you for this beautiful Airline
I dream or one engine is stopped ?
It appears to be stopped.
No the engines have the fan behind this grid :)
