Been on Air Koryo flights myself, Tupolev 154 and Tupolev 204. Both planes were in perfect condition, there was a friendly stuff and even catering was more than average. Been given only a one star ranking from Skytrax must be a political decision. This airlines deserves more
Just to make you feel safer, the Il-62 first flew in 1963 and is the largest airliner with manual flight controls, using steel cables and rods, pulleys, aerodynamic and weight balances, and trim tabs.
As a former flight attendant,I’m very impressed by the size of that centre galley!! Going length ways as well as across. Like the 747 fwd galley on KLM and Thai. Plenty of room.
That's from the chemtrails injection pump. On these planes, they inject the chemtrails into the front of the engine and it goes all the way through and comes out the back. It's less visible, that way.
Randy Carmicheel It does, yes, but the fouling is usually removed when the aircraft flies through rainy weather. The more serious problems are the gradual but continuous mechanical erosion of the compressor blades, and the chemical corrosion of the turbine blades. The heat of combustion is used to activate the chemical. (The logistics would be much more difficult if it were pre-activated.) But this shortens the life of the turbine blades by corrosion.
Ill never understand why people cry about "noisy engines"... i love.. noisy engines. Could be because i served in the AF or something but when you sit in damn plane you expect to hear its engines. I cant relax if i dont hear the engines... i need confirmation via sound that damn things still work :D
))) I also like noisy engines! many years ago russian landing strips were terrible and every time i enjoyed the vibrstion, engine noise!! (like the best sing) . now is different and smoking is also prohibited). what a sad world..
Wonderful video!! I flew an Aeroflot plane very similar to this one in February 1990 from Montreal-Moscow-Bombay-Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City. Loved it.. And actually got to experience a little bit of Moscow when there was still a Soviet Union!!
I had the experience of flying with Aeroflot many years ago to Moscow from Singapore. It was cheap, but surprisingly the aircraft was empty with more stewardess than passenger. I believe it was a Illyushin. Seeing a ballet performed in Moscow was a real treat, especially Swan Lake.
I flew on an Aeroflot IL-62 from Washington DC to Moscow (and back again) with a stop in Shannon, Ireland back in the mid 90s. Nothing like it. Very impressed. A real airplane geek's airplane!
I love the sound of those old jet engines. You can hear and feel the state of power they were in. New planes are too muted and boring at take off. They dont even sound like Jets anymore. Im glad i got to experience the "real" jet roars as a kid.
I enjoyed every minute of your video. You showed pretty much everything regarding this immaculate kept IL-62. And I liked smiles of North Korean air hostesses :)
Air Koryo don't deserve to get a one star rating from Skytrax. Their cabin crews looked friendlier than the Americans, and this airline had no fatal accidents for years!
North Korea has trade bans on the EU and the US, so they legally cannot purchase aircraft from boeing or airbus. It's entirely confusing that they use these crappy eastern block planes, instead of acquiring old but a lot better Boeing or Airbus aircraft.
I flew on an Ilyushin 62 from Havana to Moscow with one stop in Shannon. Very quiet flight due to engines in the back. It was on Aeroflot a few decades ago.
Incredible engine sounds, especially the power down as he's on final approach, then the spool up as starts the landing flare. Almost like a DC-9 on steroids, x 2. 1960's era low-bypass turbofans at their best. Also liked the design of those swept back wings.I think the Russians designed and built some very solid and interesting aircraft, and it was mostly the relative lack of maintenance that resulted in an inferior safety record compared to western aircraft.
not only that, it did in fact have some design issues. Perhaps you are aware of the Interflug catostrophy near East Berlin in the 70s. Iljujin always denied the accident was mechanical failure but then later fixed the problematic design of the cargo area IV.
besides the null regulation and security measures of the USSR in flying in bad weather not so in the West but forget that no il62 was lost in the seas of the world to MEXICO arrived from 1975 2 times a week until 2001 that prohibited them '' ' By Noise''hahaha they flew 26 years without any hiccups but South America also flew from 1975 MOSCOW -SHANNON HAVANA -MANAGUA LIMA AND MOW-DAKAR- SAO PAOLO BUENOS AIRES 2 times a week imagine the enormous distances and the most lonely and dangerous routes assigned to them just for being Soviet
I traveled from Beijing to PyongYang by AirKorio and made a good trip I was well treated The crew is very competent and I really enjoyed the IL62 for goods for this company
September 2019 now, anyone still watching this video? I'm wondering whether or not Air Koryo still flies this beast on its scheduled commercial flights
OMG!!!! Unforgettable sound and plane! When I was very young I flew IL-62 from Moscow twice. That was very impressive flights. Hope to see these plane again in the North Korea next year.
11:03 note how you can hear the internal engine idling while the external engine is at full while breaking. That's cause Il 62 has thrust reverser on the external engines only I'd be exited and terrified at the same time to have a flight on one of these old soviet ladies
northkorean kr Thank you too! In fact it is a very nice airplane - well kept fom the inside too and also I liked the airline a lot. Friendly people and good service aboard a well maintained classic airplane, just lovely!
Well for us Plane enthusiasts, it's a great way to live vicariously through others travels. I guess we appreciate the effort involved in getting the camera out and shooting the video. I travel often but never seem to be able to actually get myself to shoot the videos.
Nice and clean interior with well-arranged seating space. Much better than cattle-class American or British airways where passengers are bundled like sheep in a den!!!
...Many viewers have commented about not seeing engine No.3 (closest to window) running. But if you go to time frame 0:59 seconds and look between and BEHIND the fixed stators you'll see the turbine blades starting to rotate as the engine is spooling up during the start sequence.
I flew a CSA IL-62 from NY to Prague in the mid 1980s. I distinctly remember the engines reving for a very long time before take off. Very smooth flight and great service back then
From what i saw in this video, this plane is FAST, it does not mess around. Very aggressive. Also the staff seemed very focused on making everybody happy.
Nowadays it is all computer and fly by wire, but this olane is just spetacular, it is man and machine, wires and counter balances. Nothing else like it anymore. True ace pilots flying it through the skies
Yeah I know what you mean I have nerves flown a plane but I can imagine that it was a lot more work on older planes! I wonder if their will be single pilot planes or even drone like operated aircraft’s one day
No it fucking isn't a VC10 copy. The only similarities between the two is the double-mounted engines. The Il-62 was on the drawing board long before the VC10. And even if it was a copy, that's awful news for the Vickers, because the 62 only needed to be tweaked ONCE and it was off and running. Meanwhile that British rustbucket was modified on the assembly line.
Been on Air Koryo flights myself, Tupolev 154 and Tupolev 204. Both planes were in perfect condition, there was a friendly stuff and even catering was more than average. Been given only a one star ranking from Skytrax must be a political decision. This airlines deserves more
So true!!!!
Great plane! I will never forget the sound of the IL-62 engines. I had flown it from Khabarovsk to Moscow every summer when I was a child.
Sounds like some great experience. The engine sounds must be memorable for you
Just to make you feel safer, the Il-62 first flew in 1963 and is the largest airliner with manual flight controls, using steel cables and rods, pulleys, aerodynamic and weight balances, and trim tabs.
I'd prefer flybywire and redundancy :)
As a former flight attendant,I’m very impressed by the size of that centre galley!!
Going length ways as well as across.
Like the 747 fwd galley on KLM and Thai.
Plenty of room.
Did anyone else notice the spinning air vortexes going into the engines as the plane was taking off? So cool!
That's from the chemtrails injection pump.
On these planes, they inject the chemtrails into the front of the engine and it goes all the way through and comes out the back. It's less visible, that way.
Godfrey Poon
Doesn't that foul up the engines?
Randy Carmicheel It does, yes, but the fouling is usually removed when the aircraft flies through rainy weather.

Hahahaha🖒
))) I also like noisy engines! many years ago russian landing strips were terrible and every time i enjoyed the vibrstion, engine noise!! (like the best sing) . now is different and smoking is also prohibited). what a sad world..
I agree 100%, if its too quiet i am worried.
Great video, fantastic views.
Airforceproud95 why fo they only use 2 engines when they have 4??
I’m glad I found you(3 years late)
I had the experience of flying with Aeroflot many years ago to Moscow from Singapore. It was cheap, but surprisingly the aircraft was empty with more stewardess than passenger. I believe it was a Illyushin. Seeing a ballet performed in Moscow was a real treat, especially Swan Lake.

Wonderful trip report. The flight attendants seemed to be enjoying their job & seemed very friendly & competent.
I flew on CAAC Ilyushin IL-62 in August, 1978. Very smooth flight. I was impressed!
With air koryo you literally experience the magic behind flying on soviet build planes, I think that they offer flights on il-76 too
Nostalgie.I love russian/soviet planes.Nothing compares wtih the sound og turbine.
Ahhhh, the sweet whine of those Soloviev D-30's. Music to the ears.
When the North Korean airlines has significantly larger legroom than most of European airlines
+Jian-Min Zhèng You make a good point.
but its their service and food, they overbook, I think that Cebu Pacific, is better than this shitty airline
North Korea has trade bans on the EU and the US, so they legally cannot purchase aircraft from boeing or airbus. It's entirely confusing that they use these crappy eastern block planes, instead of acquiring old but a lot better Boeing or Airbus aircraft.
I agree. Good company. And the plane 62 the most reliable and secure.
Il-62 is the most reliable and safest aircraft in the world. In no nebylo no accidents were fatal.
That vid was FANTASTIC, I'M BEYOND JEALOUS!!! I had no idea the Il-62 was so LONG!! Thx for posting it ;-).
whoa... the cabin is spacious and the galley is unique, I love how the FA preparing meals, and the food seems... yummy
That moment when Air Koryos cabin looks ten times better than any other airline's
That noise....the power...a true aircraft legend
I love Ilyushins now (engine start up and takeoff) and I think AK deserve more than 1 star
I don't know why people rate this one star airlines because it didn't bad at all and the flight attendants looked very friendly
just an amazing Russian aircraft...a true classic!
Das sind noch richtige Piloten! Wenn man so ein Flugzeug fliegen kann, ist man ein Experte !
This is just MUSIC for my ears!! Absolutely fucking awesome!!!!!!!
MMMMmmmmm the BEST engine sound ever is this plane!
It’s Crazy how huge the engines are the sound just hits
Those Solovievs sound good :)
Пожалуй лучше этого видео я наверно не увижу!_))) Это просто супер!))) Лайк однозначно))
0:07 the moment I started hearing that, I knew this was gonna be good.
Going through your vids I keep coming back to this one. Great airplane and immaculate inside---Thanks again-JJ
john james A fantastic experience for sure. Thanks a lot for your kind comment!
nice jet Engine sounds. the aircraft seems like a slow climber. good look around cabin and pretty stewardess ! thanks for the video
awesome! love tail-mounted engines and these look amazing with four!!
First video I ever commented on of yours..Still wonderful after 6 years..Thanks for uploading it 6 years ago....
I flew on an Ilyushin 62 from Havana to Moscow with one stop in Shannon. Very quiet flight due to engines in the back. It was on Aeroflot a few decades ago.
Great airplane & friendly service
Летала на єтом шикарном лайнере в молодости такое чувство как на ракете летишь обалденно аж дух захвативает

+JGG11 Seems like the pilot had to spool up the engines to keep from landing short. Must have been a little below the glide path.
not only that, it did in fact have some design issues. Perhaps you are aware of the Interflug catostrophy near East Berlin in the 70s. Iljujin always denied the accident was mechanical failure but then later fixed the problematic design of the cargo area IV.
You are absolutely right, sir!
besides the null regulation and security measures of the USSR in flying in bad weather not so in the West but forget that no il62 was lost in the seas of the world to MEXICO arrived from 1975 2 times a week until 2001 that prohibited them '' ' By Noise''hahaha they flew 26 years without any hiccups but South America also flew from 1975 MOSCOW -SHANNON HAVANA -MANAGUA LIMA AND MOW-DAKAR- SAO PAOLO BUENOS AIRES 2 times a week imagine the enormous distances and the most lonely and dangerous routes assigned to them just for being Soviet
Just when you think those engines have reached their rev limit, they give them even more
It is crazy how much power they can squeeze. The got a crazy kerosene burn
Very nice. It feel's like I'm watching a vintage video.
Thank you!
OLD work horse...Nice look inside...
Flew this airplane in 1991 Aeroflot from Tokyo to Paris via Moscow, great ride !!
I flew on one of these from Miami to Moscow with a stop in Shannon Ireland back in 1996. It was an adventure.
i really love this video record.
becausd i can see the blade, flaps, aileron work
I traveled from Beijing to PyongYang by AirKorio and made a good trip I was well treated The crew is very competent and I really enjoyed the IL62 for goods for this company
September 2019 now, anyone still watching this video? I'm wondering whether or not Air Koryo still flies this beast on its scheduled commercial flights
How the frig is this a 1 star airline? Much better than air india or even some American Airlines. It's all bullshit I suppose.
More, more, more. Noise and smoke, enlarge that carbon footprint, just awesome. I want one.
OMG!!!! Unforgettable sound and plane! When I was very young I flew IL-62 from Moscow twice. That was very impressive flights. Hope to see these plane again in the North Korea next year.
11:03 note how you can hear the internal engine idling while the external engine is at full while breaking.
That's cause Il 62 has thrust reverser on the external engines only
I'd be exited and terrified at the same time to have a flight on one of these old soviet ladies
If you want to fly 0 star, feel free to choose Ryanair.
10:22 a little low on glide path. Though that always happen here when landing on md-80's ( venezuela).
The passenger cabin looks in much better shape than that of an Air France plane I once flew in from Paris to London.
люблю этот самолет, обожаю этот звук!!!! I love this plane, I love this sound!!!!
I love the sound of her roaring engines
Beautiful sights of the engine air intakes and beautiful sound!!!
Thank you very much!
thank you for your video, nice to see how nice it is inside a cabin
northkorean kr Thank you too! In fact it is a very nice airplane - well kept fom the inside too and also I liked the airline a lot. Friendly people and good service aboard a well maintained classic airplane, just lovely!
Air-Clips.com thank you for your comment, we like it aswell
The harmonics of those engines are haunting and comforting
Nice,nice,great video,greeting from Serbia!
The Il-62M sounds exactly like the Tu-154M since they use the same D30 engines. This aircraft is louder though, because it has one more engine.
I spent my childhood on IL-62...)) nostalgia
Great video...and have to say I enjoy your videos...keep up the good job. Always enjoyable.
Thank you so much MrWahid, comments like yours make me enjoy this little hobby so much!
Well for us Plane enthusiasts, it's a great way to live vicariously through others travels. I guess we appreciate the effort involved in getting the camera out and shooting the video. I travel often but never seem to be able to actually get myself to shoot the videos.
how beautiful the Asian stews are..They actually smile and look like they mean it..Great vid...thanks again..
Nice and clean interior with well-arranged seating space. Much better than cattle-class American or British airways where passengers are bundled like sheep in a den!!!
nice video very nice quality and service, good job
Beautiful video, wonderful Aircraft, great sound!!! Ciao
Wow what an awesome video
Lindo avión. Volé en uno desde Managua hasta Moscú en 1981.
What a fantastic experience! Do you still remember how the flight was ?
looks like a proper airline.
...Many viewers have commented about not seeing engine No.3 (closest to window) running. But if you go to time frame 0:59 seconds and look between and BEHIND the fixed stators you'll see the turbine blades starting to rotate as the engine is spooling up during the start sequence.
I love the sound
Nice D30sound!
IL-62's of KOR and AFL often visited RJNN, Landing through the side of CAL B-1816 debris!
I flew a CSA IL-62 from NY to Prague in the mid 1980s. I distinctly remember the engines reving for a very long time before take off. Very smooth flight and great service back then
AMAZING LADIES! 10 OUT OF 10 FOR THE LADIES IN RED.
7:50 Are those hamburguers ? yum
Damn! This plane's a loud screamer! Nice video!
From what i saw in this video, this plane is FAST, it does not mess around. Very aggressive. Also the staff seemed very focused on making everybody happy.
Good legroom, like in the old times.
Very nice sound of four engines!
Love the sound of those engines
Seems like there is more cabin crew than passengers on that plane
I was gonna say the same thing.....like 6 of them
It's really cool sound of engine, and plane looks is really great. Thank you.
Amazing video, thanks! :)
thanks for watching ! :)
The landing speed is extreme
Love the sounds this bird makes.
beautiful sound!
Comentando agora em 2024, achei legal o avião e a tripulação e q pena q essa compainha não tem uma rota para o Brazil ! (WR 2024: Brasilia)
Sadly not,I hope you will be able to take a flight in this awesome plane from a different city
Make sure not to draw mustaches on images of the imperial leader in the in-flight magazines. Food looks much better than the peanuts on Delta.
I wonder if their will be single pilot planes or even drone like operated aircraft’s one day
enjoyed the engine orchestra soviet era big bird now rare
You really love those engines, huh?
Junior Jr.
man!!!! he loves him some engines don't he??lll
"Russian Jet Engines: The Film"
wow thats the first time ive seen a jet land then hit full power again
18 cockpit windows!
epic video! looks soo overpowered to have two huge engines next to each other! liked ;)
A copy of the VC10

Wow nice plane
Much better than United Airlines.
Hi did you go north korea?
