There are many wonderful things about Tiana's Bayou Adventure, but where it falls short is that to "tell the story" of the attraction it too-often relies on language -- written signage throughout the ride, as well as dialogue by animatronics. It fails to utilize the long-admired Disney style of visual storytelling, pioneered in animated films nearly a century ago and later mastered in theme parks. Here are two examples: In the first big lift where we first see Tiana, she is verbally telling us we need to find members for the band. This is no visual story-telling because if you do not understand English you have no idea what the premise of the attraction is. There is nothing visual about this scene that says "this story is about needing music and a band." If Marc Davis or Tony Baxter, as examples, were designing this attraction, were would no doubt be visual storytelling to supplement and enhance. If the frosted glass doors behind Tiana had silhouettes projected on them of haphazard band members with trombones and tubas blaring discordant notes, and Tiana had her hands clasped to ears to block the "awful music" during the stall periods between delivering her dialogue, then she could pull her hands away and ask for our help. The "problem" of the story and our role in "fixing" it would be concisely conveyed in a visual, animated, thematic way. Here's another example, as you approach the barn lift, there is sign announcing the party ("A Celebration of Family and Friends of New Orleans..."). This requires reading, and there is nothing else about this sign or environment that suggests "party," so if you can't read you have no idea what is being conveyed. This is not only bad because of the broad age-range of Tiana fans and the fundamental requirements of entertaining non-English visitors, but reading a sign doesn't work as quickly or viscerally as other thematic cues. There should be some other decorative elements around the front of the barn lift such as string lights, festive lanterns, or Mardi Gras style decorations to convey "party" without reading the text itself. These are two examples of how the story-telling of this attraction doesn't quite live up to Disney's track record in this field and how nominal-cost enhancements could greatly improve the attraction and experience for all guests. Whether riders understand English, are hearing impaired, too young to read quickly, or have difficulty hearing and understanding the spoken dialogue -- and for everyone else who has come to love Disney's long-standing excellence in theme park storytelling -- I hope Disney layers these types of enhancements into Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
the animatronics are GORGEOUS, but the most beautiful one is Lottie at the end leaning forward to wave 'hello'!!!! the way she waves and leans... she looks so REAL!!!
What is up with all the green spray paint all over the outside of the structure? Is that temporary or is that some sort of a seeding spray? They removed all the vegetation and instead they are just going to spray it green??? There is no way..
10:50 I feel like the reason the bottles aren't hanging is because this version doesn't have seat belts and then stupid people would stand up and try to touch the bottles
Dear Disney, let this be a lesson- either plan a reskin for the largest version of the ride and then remove/shuffle for the smaller, or at least open the smaller one first. This was WAY better than the WDW one lmao
@@averyeml cramped animatronics, story that goes no where, drops that don’t feel justified or earned and most importantly it looks bad from a visual perspective.
I will say I like it a whole lot better here I still think that the storyline is not the strongest and I will forever wish they had Dr Faciler and Ma Belle Evangeline for the “laughing place” with the dancing water fountains, but this fixed the other issue of the dead space. Good Job Disney I will still always appreciate you guys even if I don’t always agree with what you’re doing. I still think that when it comes down to it I will go to Disney time and time again because of what it really means for me.
I think because the boats go faster there’s less waiting for the scenes to happen. In wdw you literally have to wait like 30 seconds before the boat gets to another animatronic
Positives and negatives. Positives first: Disneyland looks better cause less dead space. That’s it Negatives: Must be a preview run cause green tarps are up and Juju animatronic is not working at the end scene. Now let’s be honest with ourselves. The story here is Frozen Ever After with a Princess and the Frog skin. You are invited to a celebration, scenes of characters being gathered for said celebration, finale is celebration. Mama Odie might as well say “Let it go!” when you do the drop! Real big missed opportunity for the Tiana Foods element to be used to teach the importance of food production and co-ops in underserved communities which is more of a re-imagining of “Living with the Land” which would serve the story
@@genappithy Agreed! They could've just kept the alliterative "Critter Country" and called it a day--especially since they literally renamed half of Pooh Corner as "Critter Co-op"!
This actually looks surprisingly better than WDW's version of the ride. Most of the dark, empty space that was everywhere in Florida's version seems to have been fixed here, with the band being more spread out, and no long and winding path to see tiana say a few lines before going down to the laughing place.
It's an improvement but there's only so much you can do with a storyline that's basically an easily achieved errand with an unnecessarily dangerous mode of transport 😂
I hope they're pumping in the smell of cooking beignets into that little kitchen. LOL. It was the same with Splash Mountain - as soon as you drop off the loading belt and start floating, you get a big fat bloop of water in your lap.
I have to admit that the queue is a huge glow-up from Splash Mountain. The ride itself is much more of a mixed bag, but at least this version of the attraction is better than the WDW version in a million ways.
@@JSwag_Reviews I know that the queue for Indiana Jones: Temple of the Forbidden Eye had lots of interactive elements when it first opened, but those have now been mostly turned off or removed. But what was so special about the original Disneyland Splash Mountain queue when it first opened? I have watched footage from Splash Mountain's opening day, and it was rather plain. Don't get me wrong, I prefer Splash Mountain over Tiana's Bayou Adventure, and I enjoy the homespun feel of the wood and rock in the queue. But Tiana's added some color, some life, and some decorations to the queue that make it far more interesting to wait in. The problem is that the new version of the ride doesn't live up to the expectations created by the queue. I have heard some say that there was a hole in the wall of the original Splash Mountain queue that allowed guests to see logs floating past. Apparently, that hole has been filled in for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. If that is true, I would have to agree that is a downgrade from Splash Mountain's queue.
@@kentslocum it gets the song of the south vibes perfectly. Also the music in the queue and color pattern is beautiful. I know it’s a little plain, but Tiana is like set designers I don’t like the queue for rise either though I’m probably in the minority. Yes Indiana jones had a perfect queue but that’s one where it needs it. Splash’s queue was underrated because of the vibes it gave off.
Did anyone think of the Original Space Mountain when you saw that rotating light on the final lift hill? Talk about flashbacks! Hello From Phoenix Arizona 🌡 🔥
Well I haven't been on either version yet. But I was kind of let down when I saw the WDW ride through. How come this is so much better? It feels like it's more full. There's no real empty spots. Are there more animatronics? Is it just the smaller size of the DLR version? both? Something about this feels like an excellent ride and I suddenly have excitement to ride this version.
6:30 Disney World take note: no fence! The pacing of this version is also far, far superior. WDW needs to make some adjustments. Getting rid of the fence and slowing down for the party scene would be a good place to start since those should be easier. Redoing the layout to have less dead space would understandably take longer and need more planning.
Theming fits better here but the story fails to make sense just the same. Is it about Tiana's food? Her business? Critters? Exploring the bayou? Music? They needed to commit to one as a narrative throughline for it to feel cohesive vs. half committing to all of them simultaneously. Showing the same characters every few seconds to verbally remind us what the story is does not equal an immersive story or environment. The big finale scene is absolutely exquisite though. Everything before that just feels second rate for a brand new Disney effort.
Actually looks like a better version than the one in WDW. However, I’m disappointed that they didn’t bring back the America Sings animatronics. Though that’s honestly not surprising seeing how those figures turned 50 this year.
As with many things, Disneyland's version is far superior to Disney World's. Pacing is so much better and the animatronics are spaced out much better too. Definitely improves the ride.
What a sad loss. My memories with my dad and uncle going on splash mountain late one night when I was a kid for the first time now no longer have a physical residence I could visit. It’s one thing to destroy, but this is desecration, which is way worse. Shameful.
OK, you know what? Much, much, much better. Every story element has more of an explanation. Mamma Odi now explains what's going to happen as you go up the hill, and whilst sure it's no Facelia, it's better than just no dialogue at all. Does anyone know if these new dialogues for the characters were added to wdw at all?
This doesnt look as good as splash mountain. I havnt been on tianas yet but have been on splash mountain a lot. I feel splash mountain looks way better. The ending looked pretty cool though ill admit
I always say that most things that are in Disneyworld and Disneyland the default was "Disneyland is better" except when it came to Splash Mountain. Now Tiana's is visibly the better version is at Disneyland. The short time and the way the ride layout makes a better experience. They really need to go back and tweak Disneyworld version with more elements...
@@ChunkychunHealy Really/ There's more dialogue in here that was absent in WDW and explains the story way more. Yes it's more about the musicians but that's what WDW was also lakcing.
Just like the MK version, this is a charmless, vapid endeavor full of songs you won't remember the minute you step out of the log. Shame on management for letting this replace a stone-cold classic.
Better than magic kingdom, but that’s not saying much. Still a far cry from my Splash. But what’s done is done. Still think it was the wrong move either way.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland feels underwhelming and is missing many animatronics. To the WDW News Today and Disneyland fans. I watched this video and I feel very underwhelmed and disappointed by the empty spaces on the ride and the animatronics from the first Princess and the Frog film that's missing. Where's the dancing Spoonbill birds? Where's the red and yellow lady butterflies? Where's the 3 possums and 2 alligators and deer? Where's the 3 Frog Hunters Reggie, Darnell, Two Fingers? Also where's Juju the animatronic Snake that's not with Mama Odie at the end? Also where's Lawrence? Where's Tiana's Boss Buford? Where's Buta the Dog and Marcel the cat? And where's the most important villain Dr. Facilier and his shadow spirits, dolls, mask minions? They could've featured Dr. Facilier and his minions for the Halloween season. I'm very sad 3 of the songs from The Princess and the Frog "When We're Human", "Ma Belle Evangeline", "Friends on the Other Side" doesn't even play on the ride. I'm very disappointed Tiana's Bayou Adventure went the Jungle Cruise empty space route. Also there's no conflict, no real story and feels incredibly boring. I wish Tiana's Bayou Adventure was more like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I'll go on it once and then forget about it and wait until they update it with more of my favorite characters from Princess and the Frog characters. Or in the future in the late 2020s, or 2030s wait for a second retheme of Moana's Shiny Island Splash ride or Pocahontas Around the Riverbend ride to replace the current Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride. But, Disneyland and Disney World Imagineers just do their own thing and never listen to guests feedback. I'm sad they decided not to do the actual Princess and the Frog ride. Tiana's Bayou Adventure could've been fun but the ride sequel feels forgettable and I won't be surprised if it gets replaced by Moana or Pocahontas ride. In the meantime, I'd rather just go on a Log Flume Rattlesnake Rapids ride at Lagoon in Utah instead. I think the former 2001 Superstar Limousine and my least favorite Spinning Teacups ride was way better than Tiana's Bayou Adventure
Almost copy and paste from magic kingdom aside from some things being rearranged. Unlike splash mountain, there is no reason to experience both versions because they are exactly alike. “Pacing improvements” doesn’t make the ride any better. Sorry but it doesn’t hold a candle to splash mountain and I’ve ridden Tiana’s at mk more than I can count
Yah it doesn’t. That being said issues from DW were definitely taken into account. It may not be perfect but the improvements still help the overall ride.
Whether you like this ride or not, there's no reason why it had to replace Splash. It was completely unnecessary. Especially at WDW where there is plenty of untouched space to expand. They could have built a whole Tiana land if they wanted and left Splash alone.
The only reason it replaced Splash was to get rid of any evidence of Song of the South's existence and that's it. Disney just doubled down on the weird attitude they've had towards the film for a while now.
I know people love this one more but idk, I like both. I love the fast speed of DL and how it gets to the point, maybe a bit too fast at times. While I like the chill going down the byoue type vibe at Disney world. Maybe a bit to slow at times as well but I’m glad there different so you always have a different experience. The audio on this version is definitely better but the animalelectronics at world are better imo.
This is an absolute disaster. Disney destroyed Splash Mountain, the heart and pride of Disneyland for a soulless corporate merchandise cash grab and downgraded complexity for reduced maintenance costs. 🗑️
Nothing beats the original Splash mountain but this version isn't bad, seems to have a lot more energy and thoughtful design. The Disney World version still sucks. I will always be true to Splash Mountain though, first ride that left an impression on me as a kid and still loved it as an adult.
This is the best version of it by far. Due to the semi claustrophobic spaces, it allows you to see more of the animatronics than just seeing dead space wasted like wdw. This looks perfect

You’re right
the animatronics are GORGEOUS, but the most beautiful one is Lottie at the end leaning forward to wave 'hello'!!!! the way she waves and leans... she looks so REAL!!!
What is up with all the green spray paint all over the outside of the structure? Is that temporary or is that some sort of a seeding spray? They removed all the vegetation and instead they are just going to spray it green??? There is no way..
That’s the ‘theming’
10:50 I feel like the reason the bottles aren't hanging is because this version doesn't have seat belts and then stupid people would stand up and try to touch the bottles
i hate that you're right. Thats 100% what it is.
Agree, people think it’s a great idea. Don’t mess with the spirit of Brer Fox. JUST SIT DOWN PEOPLE!!!
8:30 “Oh no…🥲” top ten moments before disaster lol
Now, you gotta go to Toyko if you want Splash Mountain.
Still not a fan of the retheme but it works BETTER here at Disneyland than WDW
Positives and negatives. Positives first: Disneyland looks better cause less dead space. That’s it
Negatives: Must be a preview run cause green tarps are up and Juju animatronic is not working at the end scene.
Tiana is back and better than ever! This looks fun as heck!
Even though it's not a greater version of its east coast counterpart, it is definitely a much improved version.
The cameraman was not expecting the more fast paced nature of this ride. The camera kept moving left and right lol!
Empty space? Just put a video screen over it!
Thats the way of the industry these days
Well there’s at least one thing we can agree on, Bayou Country is a dumb name
@@genappithy Agreed! They could've just kept the alliterative "Critter Country" and called it a day--especially since they literally renamed half of Pooh Corner as "Critter Co-op"!
This version is much better than the WDW version. it's quite obvious that the attraction was definitely made for Disneyland.
No...
Honestly yeah
13:17 Mama Odie's mouth is broken, same with Juju. He didn't pop out.
Juju was working after the 4pm breakdown today
For early previews it’s running better than I had hoped
As someone that was a young child when Splash opened, I LOVE the frogs. I would buy different FROG plushes all day.
I second what everyone is saying. This works at DL much better than WDW. The ride is so cute
This actually looks surprisingly better than WDW's version of the ride. Most of the dark, empty space that was everywhere in Florida's version seems to have been fixed here, with the band being more spread out, and no long and winding path to see tiana say a few lines before going down to the laughing place.
Everything is better at land for some reason
@@libertysdaddy1514 It's a Smaller and More compact version. Helps the pacing a TON.
The rides blueprint was definitely disneyland rhen poorly executed to wdws version
Its better because its darker. Maybe if they turned off more lights at the WDW one we wouldn’t be able to tell how awful it is either lol.
@@someguy4253yea it’s awful still looks so bad.
this one moves rly fast
Splash mountain will always be a million times better
It's an improvement but there's only so much you can do with a storyline that's basically an easily achieved errand with an unnecessarily dangerous mode of transport 😂
@@jaydenswift9856 I hate it.
I hope they're pumping in the smell of cooking beignets into that little kitchen. LOL. It was the same with Splash Mountain - as soon as you drop off the loading belt and start floating, you get a big fat bloop of water in your lap.
this reveal is what everyones been waiting for for months
Start of ride 4:30
I have to admit that the queue is a huge glow-up from Splash Mountain. The ride itself is much more of a mixed bag, but at least this version of the attraction is better than the WDW version in a million ways.
@@kentslocum the queue for splash was one of the best things about it you weren’t around when it was new!
Much better pacing, not to mention that it fits in much more naturally with the theming of New Orlean’s Square.
Poor Arlo (at least I think it's him by the voice?) got soaked 😆
What group were you in I just did it today and I’m group 23
Pour one out for the brave cameraman who got soaked at least 3 times
Loved every second--Great job--Thank you
As with many things, Disneyland's version is far superior to Disney World's. Pacing is so much better and the animatronics are spaced out much better too. Definitely improves the ride.
Disneyland, give us back splash mountain
Splash was the greatest. I’m not really feeling this ride overlay on either coast. I love the queue music and the finale song though
What a sad loss. My memories with my dad and uncle going on splash mountain late one night when I was a kid for the first time now no longer have a physical residence I could visit. It’s one thing to destroy, but this is desecration, which is way worse. Shameful.
It’s so lame. It’s so empty. And all the dialogue is “man they can play”

This is really cool. Can we get a pov without any close ups or zoom outs?
OK, you know what? Much, much, much better. Every story element has more of an explanation. Mamma Odi now explains what's going to happen as you go up the hill, and whilst sure it's no Facelia, it's better than just no dialogue at all. Does anyone know if these new dialogues for the characters were added to wdw at all?
I've always been interested in Bayou Adventure at Disneyland. Thank you for sharing the video!
If this truly is the better version, can we change WDWs back to Splash?
Or change both back cuz this was awful!
This doesnt look as good as splash mountain. I havnt been on tianas yet but have been on splash mountain a lot. I feel splash mountain looks way better. The ending looked pretty cool though ill admit
I bet wdw’s version is probably experiencing technical difficulties XD LMAO
XD I DONT FEEL BAD FOR WDW TO BE HONEST WITH THEIR BROKEN “adventure” ride
Definitely a better version than WDW, but it is not better than Splash Mountain.
Ok, this is 10X BETTER THEN WDW
Still don’t like the music. It just doesn’t do anything for me. Not memorable enough to get stuck in my head.
I would say it’s just a cheap copy of WDW's!

Wait, is this opened already?
Annual pass holder previews. Open to the public November 15th.

You’re right
The only reason it replaced Splash was to get rid of any evidence of Song of the South's existence and that's it.
Disney just doubled down on the weird attitude they've had towards the film for a while now.

The audio on this version is definitely better but the animalelectronics at world are better imo.
The audio animatronics are the same. Built in the same shop at the same time.

Those CEO who made this are the worst
I’m glad with the end result for Disneyland, but my heart is still torn for the WDW version of splash, should’ve kept that version so we could have had the best of both worlds.

@@JSwag_Reviews half the america sings animatronics barely operated by the end of splash’s run, it was about time for Disneyland to have a refresher, WDWs splash fitted the atmosphere of Frontierland so well and was built to properly elevate the story along with just better animatronics in general, the solution could’ve been to refresh the Disneyland ride (Baxter actually was brought in to help in developing the Disneyland retheme) and bring the America sings animatronics to the WDW ride to spruce up the show scenes especially the laughing scene place and bam we could’ve had splash and bayou adventure in the US, too bad that wasn’t the reality though, but I don’t mind splash being gone at Disneyland, but it will be more painful to go to the east coast especially with the removal of rivers of America

@@kentslocum In my opinion, I think they did a great job with Disneyland version. I’m not sure about Disney Worlds version, but I think Disneyland kinda needed this change. And in the end, it turned out great. This is just my opinion though.
@@ImperiusLex Pretty much everyone agrees that the Disneyland version is better than the WDW version. The problem I and many others have is that Disney could have just put all this money into refurbishing and remodeling Splash Mountain. @@ImperiusLex The consensus seems to be that the story is the biggest "make or break" of the retheme.
