- In the 13th century, England was marred by internal strife known as the Second Barons' War (1264-1267). This civil conflict pitched the barons, led by Simon de Montfort, against King Henry III and his royalist forces. The war stemmed from deep-seated dissatisfaction among the barons, who sought a redefined balance of power. This historical struggle, marked by political complexities and shifting allegiances, underscores a crucial period in English governance. The events that transpired during this time laid the foundation for significant political changes, shaping the course of the nation's history.

As someone from Lewes who now lives overseas, it's so great seeing my home pop up on my fave TH-cam channels 😍
Sending you bonfire wishes and Harveys dreams.

My dog: You have my attention
I like how HoH used Medieval Totalwar for the cinematic battles.
Fantastic work as always! I've been looking forward to this.
Thank you for covering this.
Amazing work as always HOH!
So, Edward, I did at Lewes, old 25, the same as Alexander the Great at Chaironeia, old 17? I think Edward´s overall rule is more about meticulous planning (Iron Ring Castles in Wales) a shrewd battling (Scotland) than temperamental excesses.
@House of History, when will you release the video about the Battle of Evesham?
More of these pls :>>>>
Excellent work man !
Great video!
Terrific video! ⚔🔥🙌
Really, it was a remarkable historical coverage video....thank you for your respectful 🙏 ( house of history) channel...
Happy you enjoyed the video!
Absolutely loving these videos of England! Keep them coming!!
Very clear, thank you.
Nice vid mate!
Very interesting. Excellent presentation. I live near Lewes and had no idea about this battle.
This is extremely well done. I amnow subscribed.
Love your work man! This definitely was a very low Point for Henry III and his heir edward, please next time to the Plantagenets revenge on the Battle of Evesham!
Simon of Montfort was a hell of a soldier
Hey man great work like always would you consider doing a vid about llew
Plz a full doc about Hannibal Barca in details
Thanks in advance
I like how you show the battle map in one half of the screen and the game images in the other half.
Nice, you cover the medeval English wars. But what about the conclusion of the Prusso-Austrian war?
I feel like they're intentionally dragging it out to build up anticipation for Konnigratz
And since that battle is very big, animating it must take a while too
It's not intentional for anticipation. It's just a really, really tough and long battle to research and animate.
This animation, feels like a grand strategy game. Beginning of the video, troops assembling, I thought it was. Paradox Interactive should reach out to you.
Hey man great work like always would you consider doing a vid about Llywelyn the Last
This video was amazing! I love the graphics and the troop types! I'd recommend you to use the mod Medieval Kingdoms 1222 mod for TW Atilla instead of TW Medieval 2 tho, medieval 2 is kinda inaccurate nowadays. Keep up the good work
Thank you. I am very new to using this footage so I will have a look and see if I can download that mod!
@@HoH 12:02 A mistake here. "Rout" is pronounced 'r-ow-t' rather than 'roo-t'.
'Route' is pronounced 'root', so it's a tricky one. I do give you credit for seemingly being the only non-native English speaker who actually tries to speak the language as a native; it's a standard expected of us if we're learning a foreign language, and we get discounted if we don't speak French, Spanish etc. as natives, yet no-one who speaks English bothers to sound authentic, instead opting for the thickest accent. Save for you. So respect. One mistake in nearly 15 minutes of talking; you're doing well. To other non-native speakers, put in the same effort!
That's what I wonder about with this game footage: How accurate are these depictions?
Cause I mostly see very small groups of warriors fighting each other. Shouldn't these be huge groups of men fighting each other in formation?
@@ChrisDynamoWhat do you mean non-native speaker? I thought this video was narrated by Alan Rickman? 😂
@@Thomas_Name Medieval 2 isn't accurate in many aspects
Thanks
Thank you
So how are the Austrians doing against the Prussian's 🤔😁
Another great video
Is there any new prussian austrian war videos ?
I see the sign for this battle ground on my way to work each day. Its on the way to Ringmer and on the east of Lewes. Was there another battle there?
Not that I know of, I'll have a look!
It's over, King Henry, I have the high ground.
You underestimate my power!
Nice to see you pronounced Lewes perfectly it is often mispronounced in videos. Nicely done! Love the videos keep up the great work.
I thought it would be "Loos"...not "Lois"!
Of course, I'm from the USA...New England, specifically...and have been "cursed" with English "pronunciation" :P
Fantastic video I reenact King John at Rochester Castle in my £3000 costume
Would you ever do siege of Danzig 1308? There is no videos on the topic and it is a very interesting conflict.
If possible without awful polish propaganda
Does anyone know the name of the melody that starts playing in the background at around 0:20?
th-cam.com/video/VYa5EC5TdtQ/w-d-xo.html
can you do the battle of buxar from the bengal war?
I'm here for anything 13th c. English! I suppose I don't mind occasional dips across the channel to the continent, or rest of the British Isles 😎
Simon de Montfort knew how to attain victory but not how to use it. Agree or disagree?
I need the name of the song that was playing in the first minute. PLEASE FFS :(

The birth of British democracy.
Fight at Lewes, prepare to lose
I thought I said to get Attila Total War Medieval 1212 mod
I bought Attila, but the game itself is too dark and the sun reflection on units' armour looks... off. Do you have any suggestions for mods I can try out to improve the quality?
@@HoH you can change a lot of the graphics settings
@@HoH did you get the 1212 mod working?
Its should be called The Second Baronial War. This is another video made by non English people with video games as their source material. Its interesting but has a few holes in it.
Any batt front the American civil war
Luckily the traitor de Montfort didn't last long. He made a hash of his rule and the majority of the barons didn't support him, at the same time they weren't too thrilled about the French who Henry III gave plum positions/titles/bishoprics too either.
Dude, almost all the nobility at this time were french..
@@lysimaquetokmok6755 this is two centuries after the Norman invasion you understand. Most barons were either Norman descendant with a minority being descended from pre-Norman anglo Saxon barons. The French were definitely distinct and have always been. Even the the Normans were only partly French. Besides if you a baron in England you are an English baron regardless of your ancestry.
1. Henry III was a shit king and truly his father's son.
2. All the nobles who fought in this battle spoke French. In fact all English kings and nobolity spoke French until Henry IV....
The winners always write the history books. All the Plantagenets were french including the kings of England . You know very little of my ancestors or you wouldn’t make sweeping statements like traitor . If it wasn’t for my family we wouldn’t have common law via the Magna Carta or parliament ( which is french and literally means we are meant to talk about it ). Simon was on the side of the people , that’s you , by the way . Yet you ,who knows very little about the subject of medieval politics , kingdoms or people , another one with expert knowledge consider him a traitor. The biggest traitors in history were and are the English fake royal family.
Simon was about 5 and 6 centuries ahead of his time, a true visionary. His ideas were revolutionary, but the nobility weren't ready for such a change.
Imagine a prince not being a spoiled ego driven brat, costing his father, the King whatever lol.
its pronounced "loo is" locally. Not "loos".
Edward the Pathetic)
Stop using AI generated images for your thumbnails (utterly lazy of you and contradicts your "House of History" name) as that man wearing the armour is completely wrong - the armour / costume he wears looks more a kin to the fiction of Lord of the Rings and the Narnia books - not real history from 1264 AD in Medieval Europe
There is no plate armour in the Lord of the Rings books but I do agree with you. The knights of that time would have worn a coat of plates at most, and much more likely simple mail with a surcoat. Certainly not whatever that is in the thumbnail.
Simon, son of an eponymous butcher who slaughtered his way through southern France until his head encountered a boulder launched by a mangonel from the walls of Toulouse - supposedly operated by the "girls and ladies and women of Toulouse". A son who himself was a murderously antisemitic zealot who endeared himself to his supporters by cancelling all debts they had to Jewish moneylenders, seizing the records and if need be butchering their creditors.
Still waiting for you to tell me something bad about this guy
Thanks for telling me what side I should cheering on
"Go glorious Simon de Montfort, the Victory is yours!"
please stop using total war content it just looks awful! and it will look worse in the future making your videos unwatchable. idk who makes this total war content for you but it's done really bad too
The opinions are divided, with the majority of people seemingly enjoying it and appreciating it. I create it myself but I never played games myself so it is all very new to me. Any ideas on how to improve the footage?
Great video !!!
