Are you familiar with NES Remix on Wii U and 3DS? It's kind of exactly what you were describing. This but not so grounded. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this is made by the same team. I wish and hope this leads to some Remix appearing on the Switch.
It's weird that he considers Balloon Fight the worst one considering Ice Climber, a game where ledges can and cannot exist at the same time, is on the list.
@@grapesoftime I actually don't like Balloon fight, but he was complaining about a lot of games that he's never played and never bothered to learn and just said the missions were 'stupid' and/or random.
I was hoping to see Kid Icarus. I played it a lot when I was a kid, and remember it being both very difficult, and somehow mysterious-I had no idea where I was supposed to go, what I was supposed to do, nor what most of the items did. Getting turned into an eggplant was always funny though.
The mysterious factor really helped those older games. Since there wasn't an internet or TH-cam to look things up you had to rely on your own exploration or your friends to help you out. It was always fun to figure things out on your own😁
The first Kid Icarus challenge being the hardest is 100 percent true to the experience of playing the full game. It starts off brutal, and then gets way easier once you're past the first level.
Balloon Flight is just controlling with accelerations instead of direct movement, if that wasn't the case there would be no challenge/point in the game. I'm sure you can get used to it, Ice Climber physics is harder to control
20:10 the koopa's position isn't different, Luigi just has lower traction than Mario so he's slightly slower getting going. Side note, I remember watching one of your super vintage streams of Mario Bros 2 lost levels (snes version) where you played as Luigi for your first ever time beating the game. Thought it was hilarious because talk about a brutal introduction.
This is beyond fun to watch. I grew up with these games, and you're just expertly dismantling them. 😄 I watched over an hour of your livestream before checking this one out. I'll go back and finish that video later, but I've always had a soft spot for Kid Icarus and Zelda 2. Fantastic video; and quite frankly, what a great idea for a game as a whole.
I S-ranked the Balloon Fight challenges early on because I was the ONLY kid I knew who had that game and actually liked it. I was lmao at your reactions to it. Brought back so many memories of friends leaving my house in disgust lol
Balloon Fight was one of the games we loved and played the most as kids XD We rarely played alone tho, so maybe it's simply a better experience with the chaotic, "floaty" controls when you have someone to laugh and get into a mild panic with?
I appreciate how fast you put up this follow-up. Thanks so much! Also, I'm sorry you soured on the game so fast. You were so excited early on. I'll be on the look out for the Legendary video!
I'd say the same opinion my uncle said when he played this game on my Switch - the generous S ranking time parameters is to give casuals the incentive to keep playing. The "S" is for the casuals, the second-millisecond timer is for the hardcores. Casuals won't see the appeal of a "I did sub-3 seconds on this challenge" but if you show them an A+ or an S, things they can easily understand as a scoring convention, that gives the incentive for them to keep unlocking and playing the other challenges.
Even worse is some of the challenges have straight up RNG you have to overcome. You can get patterns fighting Wispy Woods for example, that make an S rank impossible
I really enjoy watching your videos and wanted to share a couple of tips that might help you shave off some time in Mario Bros 2 levels. I hope you find them useful! In the first level, instead of falling into the "hole" to get to the door, you can use the game's ability to teleport from left to right. If you fall very close to the edge of the left side and move offscreen to the left, you'll reappear on the right side and can just press up to enter the door. This might save you some time, as it avoids the risk of hitting the hill on the way down and trying to get right into the crack. Also, in the cloud jumping level, you had the right idea of jumping straight up but couldn't quite make the final jump. If you try jumping to the left and land on the cloud on the right side of the screen, it can save you time. This trick can be used in many parts of Mario 2, and seeing your runs makes me want to get this game. Thanks for the great content, and keep up the fantastic work!
@@thenonexistinghero I'm talking about doing small objectives in the game as fast as possible. I don't think that needs a bad game but if that's all that it is, it's good to know before dropping 60 bucks

There should have been a way for players to create their own challenges and upload them online for other players to try and beat. Granted, all of these games would have needed to be available in their entirety for players to create their respective challenges, but that would have made this AMAZING!
I like the fact that the tutorial challenges are easy to complete but hard to get S ranks on unless you really know what you are doing (for the most part)
1:10:59 I think it still has potential in a Trackmania/Mario Makerway where a person can go into a game, set a goal and start point then run the challenge themselves and post it for other people to try. Trackmania has a mechanic called the "Author Medal" where the person who creates/posts the level can race their track and choose a run to set as the standard time for people to beat. Use that as the S rank here and you have yourself a game.
At first I wasn't sure if I'd like this game. I absolutely love it. I've never really tried speed running any games. I love the challenge of the speed running mode.
