    Good for him, no government has the authority to send anyone to war.

      Here in Germany they do. And we stil had national service until 2011. Now conscription is only reinstalled in case of war. But they do have the authority. Our neighbors Switzerland and Austria are still holding on to it. With Germany becoming a professional army in 2011, Turkey is the only country with mandatory military service left in NATO. But to this day there are soldiers in serving in the Bundeswehr that didn't join on their own will in the first place.

    I am glad he said that. I was worried about his views since he was from SA. I feel better about owning a Tesla and investing in his companies.

      Yeah I thought it was kind of funny how straightforward he was as well too lol You know I knew he was from South Africa, but it never dawned on me that he might have to perform mandatory service for a bunch of racial nonsense. But I never put the two together

      He didn't know for how long apartheid would last in 1988/89, when he left the country. He left before the abolishment of conscription and before Nelson Mandela was released from prison.
      Sure, in 88/89 there was change was in the air. But how the process would take place and how long it would take wasn't a sure thing, known to the public in 88/89. Many boys/men did the same thing, even in the final phase of apartheid.

      @@yannick245 I grew up in South Africa in the 80s so please do not tell me how things worked in my own country based on propoganda you have read. Doing military service was something all South African white men were proud of because it was a process whereby boys became men. You had the option to skip military service if you joined the police force. The moffies tried everything not to do military service because that would have meant 2 years of hell for them.

    • @yannick245
      @yannick245 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bonjovi7120 What propaganda? Everything I said is that there was mandatory national service _(in some form)._ And that in 1988, you couldn't foresee that it would be abolished in the next couple years. I don't want to school you God forbid!
      And since when is Musk gay? I know that soutpiels had a hard time in the military, since Afrikaans was the command language.
      I had to do national service here in Germany. It was only abolished two years after my age group. So many friends of mine got spared. One was so lucky that he was born exactly one month after the dateline. Another friend that was just one month older still had to go. But my generation only had to do six months. Our fathers had to do two years.
      Since 2011 the Bundeswehr has become a professional army. Our Austrian and Swiss neighbors still have conscription. In NATO, there's only Turkey left.
